The Discoverer True North is Cooper's Studless Ice & Snow winter / snow tire developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans, crossovers and SUVs. Designed to provide exceptional traction in snowy, slushy and icy conditions along with responsive steering and confident handling, the Discoverer True North meets the tire industry's severe snow service rating and earns the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.
The specialized, winter-focused compound of the Discoverer True North boasts the highest silica content of any Cooper winter tire. Wide tread blocks in the outboard shoulder improve lateral grip for dry handling traction, while the higher void ratio of the middle of the tread and inboard shoulder aids wet performance. The circumferential center groove and wide lateral notches evacuate water and slush to improve hydroplaning resistance, and the specialized winter compound combined with the high sipe density provides traction on wet surfaces, in light or deep snow and on ice.
The internal construction of the Discoverer True North consists of a two-ply polyester casing that helps balance the relationship between durability and ride comfort. Two wide, steel belts support the tread area, and a single-ply, nylon reinforcement aids handling response and provides high-speed capability.
Due to the traction capabilities of the Discoverer True North, Cooper Tire recommends using Discoverer True North tires only in sets of four to provide the best handling characteristics and tire performance.

...Great overall traction, long lasting and terrific in wet conditions...
I had my reservations about the purchase of this tire however I went on the recommendation of the TireRack agent. I like these tires very much. They are a solid choice. Great overall traction, long lasting and terrific in wet conditions. I'm glad I listened to the agent.

I have full confidence in these tires, never had any issues in dry or wet - and they worked as expected in snow/ice.
I wasn’t certain about putting Generals on a BMW but I’ve been happy with them before and they have been very pleasing in this application. I don’t drive them hard in this SUV, but when I’m on the highway the combo of tires/wheels/chassis is extremely steady. I have full confidence in these tires, never had any issues in dry or wet - and they worked as expected in snow/ice.

These are the second set of RT45 tires I have put on my wife's Rav4. They have lasted a lot longer than the stock Michelin's. They are not as quiet as some other tires, but it is negligible. I was really impressed this past January in fairly deep snow in SWVA. The tires and the AWD system instilled a lot of confidence. Minimal slip and decent cornering in snow. I feel at ease when my wife and daughters are out in deteriorating conditions with these tires. With most any tires, as the tires age and tread depth decreases, so does performance. The last set did very well down to approximate 5/32nd. I most likely will purchase another set when these wear out.
The price is relatively lower than other tires in its class. I do like a light tire and these were some of the lightest. Tread depth is 11/32", much better than the 9/32nd you traditional find.

...I think the tire is excellent in rain conditions for handling and response, really no difference in my opinion in dry handling in my SUV. Never been in a condition that felt like the tire wasn't holding the road...
The RT45 were a new release model and I like the tread look for a good all seasons. I was correct having almost 40k miles on them in Michigan, with a mix from dirt roads to highway to the city, the current tread depth is on point to hit 75k miles on them. I still use a snow/tire package for the winter driving but I won't swap until snow season is in full, and the RT45 has been very impressive for a all season tire in winter mix conditions where anything goes. I think the tire is excellent in rain conditions for handling and response, really no difference in my opinion in comparison to dry handling in my SUV. Never been in a condition that felt like the tire wasn't holding the road. I would recommend them to anyone.

These General RT45s are awesome! I installed them on the rear and instantly noticed better grip and a smoother ride. Super quiet and stable even in the rain. I’m planning to buy another two soon to replace my front tires. Great value for the performance!

...They are WAY more comfortable than my 225/45/15 summer tires, as expected...
I bought these for the sole purpose of cold weather use for the 3-4 months/year where morning temps drop below 40 degrees in north GA. I drove the car this morning and it was 17 degrees when I left the house. They're mounted on stock 14x6 Miata wheels while my aftermarket wheels and summer tires stay in the garage. I struggled a bit to get them balanced properly, but once I did, no vibrations or pulling. They are WAY more comfortable than my 225/45/15 summer tires, as expected. They're not performance tires, but still allow me to have fun driving the Miata in colder weather. They perform decent in wet conditions, no issues so far. No plans to try them in the snow. They'll get stored in the warmer months and be ready for next cold season.

For how cheap the tires are they are very comfortable. They compound is not too hard to where you experience a rough ride feel but, it is hard enough to last you up to two years and slightly beyond and with a good wheel alignment where the toe and caster/camber is in the green the tires react to your steering input very well and pretty quick on the sensitivity side. So, if you don't have a lot of money to play with but, don't cheap tires on your car then these medium grade tires I would recommend! My family's deceased mechanic of 35 years in the business put these tires on all of his customers econo cars. So, they are great!

High scores highlight excellent longevity for a Grand Touring tire, with many noting consistent wear patterns even after extended use. A few scores in the 7-8 range still reflect strong durability in all-season conditions.

The AltiMAX are great for all season tires, this is my second set. First set almost made it to 40K, these have just over 16k. Used for local and highway driving, low to no noise - used them once in a very light dusting of snow with no issue. Can't beat them for the price, I would recommend them.
