Customers Say

Ratings data demonstrates the General G-MAX RS excels in its Ultra High Performance Summer category, with outstanding dry traction (frequent 9-10 scores) and confident wet grip, including strong hydroplaning resistance. Steering responsiveness and cornering stability consistently earn top marks, aligning with summer tire priorities. Comfort receives positive feedback (7-8 range), though a few note slightly firmer ride quality. Treadwear ratings (7-8) suggest satisfactory longevity for a performance-focused summer tire, with some users reporting faster wear under aggressive driving. While most praise its balanced handling and precise feel, a small subset mentions moderate road noise. Overall, it delivers summer-focused performance drivers expect, prioritizing grip and control in dry and wet conditions.

...Great Dry and Wet Traction. Great Price. Great Performance...

General G-Max RS: I purchased these tires after researching for countless hours. I wanted a good set of Sport Performance tires to go on my 2012 Mustang I just purchased. There wasn't a lot of information out there on the RS, but what I found, I liked!! After getting the tires delivered to my local preferred shop in less than 48 hours, I took them out for a test. And MAN, these babies are sweet. You won't be disappointed. Great Dry and Wet Traction. Great Price. Great Performance. And with a 45k mile warranty and 45 day trial period, you have to try them for yourself.

...They are quiet, handle rain well, and are predictable in the corners even in my 2 ton car...

Took a chance on this tire due to reviews. So far I have been totally impressed. My car has loads of low end torque being a twin turbo car. These tires grip so well I rarely can break them loose when accelerating even with over 450ft/lbs or torque on hand. I've had more expensive tires on other vehicles before and so far these tires are as good if not better than some I've paid $300ea for. They are quiet, handle rain well, and are predictable in the corners even in my 2 ton car. Would totally buy them again. Treadwear has been great so far also. You won't be disappointed in these.

I switched from the OE "Low Rolling Resistance" tires to summer performance tires mainly because the OE tires were scary on wet pavement. When the previous brand (not carried by TR) wore out and were NLA on discount web sites, General G-MaxR+S were the next best choice in terms of wet traction, rolling resistance, and price. I always cross check Tire Rack's test results with Consumer Reports, and the Generals tested well on both sites. As compared to my previous tires, the General has a little rougher ride, but the handling and wet traction seem to be a good match. I might note that the sidewall notes on my set indicate a rayon cord body ply, not the polyester cord body ply shown on the web site. Rayon is considered better.

Being a snowbird, cold weather performance isn't a factor in my choice, and I've found that autumn is the best time to be shopping for summer performance tires.

...As for handling, I have tested these tires at nearly 1.0 Gs of force in turns, and they have not slipped or skipped whatsoever. The unique outer tread design tightens as weight transfers across the tire, improving lateral grip while also providing an auditory note that increases in proportion to the stress on the tire. The tires offer sharp and direct turn-in that is predictable and easily controlled.

When shopping for tires for my 2010 CTS-V, I needed something that would handle spirited driving with occasional track duty, but would also maintain long-term durability, comfort, and reliability in various weather conditions. I began looking into mid-range UHP tires to see what was offered at a more competitive price than Michelins or Continentals. I called Butch at Tire Rack to gather suggestions, and he mentioned an all-new offering from General that was designed to best the B-segment in every performance category. I decided to do some research, and the test results for the General G-Max RS held lofty claims that piqued my interest. For the price, I couldn't beat the claimed performance along with the 45,000 mile warranty and 360 UTGQ treadwear rating. While only putting around 2,000 miles on the tires, they have been incredibly impressive. From new asphalt to gravel pavement, dry surfaces to wet, the G-Max has provided excellent comfort and a quiet ride. I was immediately impressed by the ride quality, as the G-Max has a slightly softer sidewall than other UHP tires, which provides a smoother ride without being so soft that handling is negatively affected. As for handling, I have tested these tires at nearly 1.0 Gs of force in turns, and they have not slipped or skipped whatsoever. The unique outer tread design "tightens" as weight transfers across the tire, improving lateral grip while also providing an auditory note that increases in proportion to the stress on the tire. The tires offer sharp and direct turn-in that is predictable and easily controlled. The car feels very nimble, impressive given the softer sidewall design. Another factor is straight-line acceleration. Besides wheelspin in 1st gear, the G-Max handles a ¾ throttle pull in my 550 RWHP/580 RWTQ CTS-V with little drama. At full throttle, 1st gear and 2nd gear spin, and the tires finally catch traction in 3rd, but this is to be expected. Overall, I am incredibly impressed with this tire.

I do a bit of spirited driving out on the road as well as racing in Autocross. These tires were replacing the nearly bald stock Dunlops that came with the WRXs. Right off the bat, I noticed a sharper turn in response as well as better cornering stability compared to the Dunlops. I used these tires for a couple of Autocross events, and these held up great. The steering was predictable as well as the grip, going through slaloms felt stable and precise. The limits of the tire are easy to figure out and it tends to hold grip well even when pushed to it's limits. I have used BFG Rivals in the past before, which were extremely grippy when hot but had a very pronounced limit/break point. The G-Max RS was not as grippy as the Rivals, but they are a lot more predictable and in certain areas, more stable. Because of the tire compound (Summer tires) they do feel a bit slippery when it's cold, which is not noticeable for daily driving, but it's very noticeable in AutoX. I can't say much about the wet traction aspect of these tires, as I have not to driven enough in the hard rain. However, they seem to hold up perfectly with no sight of hydroplaning or loss of grip. I have driven through puddles of water with no problems whatsoever, but I have yet to drive my car hard in the rain with these tires.
In terms of comfort, these tires are a bit loud when driving, which may not be ideal for everyone. It is noticeable especially on uneven roads, which can be a bit annoying. The G-Max RS can feel a bit rough, depending on what tires you're coming from. I can feel many imperfections on the road when driving and dips/bumps can be harsh. The last thing I can say about these tires is that these seem to wear very well. Even after a few AutoX events, they look like they're brand new which is a big plus.

In conclusion, these are great tires that hold up very well especially for the price. They are perfect for normal daily driving, but may leave a bit to be desired if you plan on racing.

...On road comfort is outstanding compared with other tires and the DWS06 that I run during the winter months. Extremely quiet, and ride is very smooth even well after install date...

Have had these tires on for 2 summer seasons now with a mix of highway and several AutoX events. Overall am very pleased. These tires are a great value ($70 rebate at time of purchase also) and have outstanding performance in the wet. Have never had loss of traction or hydroplane situation during any amount of rain on the highway. On road comfort is outstanding compared with other tires and the DWS06 that I run during the winter months. Extremely quiet, and ride is very smooth even well after install date. Expect these to go well into 30K+ mile territory based on my highway commuting use case.

As for Autocross performance in C Street, I bumped up to the 215 size from 205 which made steering responsiveness decrease compared with the previous tire size. Dry grip for launch and straight line is very high. The sidewall is a bit soft which causes some body roll. Breakaway is very progressive and easy to play with at the limit. Tire wear has been minimal if any after multiple events

These have been a great fit for my warm weather driving needs and would encourage people to take a look if interested in a quiet and well mannered road tire with higher end performance levels

Used on the rear of my 2016 Polaris Slingshot with a supercharger. This tire sticks better than others I've tried that were also summer rated tires. I'm extremely pleased with the performance/handling/wear I'm getting from this tire. I will replace it with the same when the time comes.

...Also the treadwear so far is negligible with 8000 hard driven miles with a few burnouts for good measure !!!...

Have had these on my '08 Vette for 8k miles. Extremely impressed with the performance/price point.
Bought the car last March with 14k miles; still had the original Goodyear Eagle run flats on it. Needless to say, these tires being 11 years old were DANGEROUS!!! Rubber was age hardened and the handling was scary... easy to oversteer on sharp throttle inputs.

I bought the Generals because of the many positive reviews and I'm VERY pleased with these tires... the Vette handles SO differently now... these stick like glue and the turn in and grip in corners inspire WAY MORE confidence than with the old Goodyear run flats...

Also the treadwear so far is negligible with 8000 hard driven miles with a few burnouts for good measure !!!

I highly recommend these tires for your Corvette if you're looking for a reasonably priced high performance option.

...Treadwear has been great as well...

Put these on the Carerra S about 10 months ago and do mostly local spirited driving. My local tire place recommended this new General Brand as a very affordable option over the Michelin, Pirelli or Bridgestone options. At about 60% the cost of the others, I thought I give them a try and I am very happy with them. Smooth, relatively quiet ride, good cornering and pretty secure wet weather performance, although I don't really drive my convertible too much in the rain. Treadwear has been great as well. I don't track the car so I really can't comment in that regard but for normal, fun, spirited driving in my 911, I couldn't be happier with these tires. Don't hesitate to give them a try!
