Hankook Optimo H426 Reviews

Feedback suggests challenges with the Hankook Optimo H426's comfort, where noise levels and ride quality (scores 0-7) draw frequent criticism. Treadwear ratings (0-10) show inconsistent durability, with many reports of premature wear. Winter traction (0-6) falls short of all-season expectations, struggling in snow and ice. Wet performance (0-8) reveals hydroplaning concerns and inconsistent grip. ...Under dry asphalt conditions, the tires grip really well. And after two owners, still have sufficient of tread life...

Tires came with a low mileage used car. Based on the wear bar, could probably could get another 10+K miles out of them. But decided to replace these tires after picking up a few nails. Overall very happy with the tires. Tires have good to great wear, cornering, acceleration and stopping under both wet and dry conditions. Never drove in the Snow. My single issue is that the tires are to noisy for my taste on concrete and lately seem to be getting noisier during highway driving. Under dry asphalt conditions, the tires grip really well. And after two owners, still have sufficient of tread life. Also good performance under wet conditions. Agree that these tires are sporty and noisy under some conditions, but disagree that these tires are somehow lacking under any other summer condition. Would consider buying again.

...Tires were amazing in the summer as expected...

These Hankook H426 205 55/R16 tires came as OEM with my new car, a 2014 Honda Civic LX coupe with front-wheel drive. For the most part, I would say I am a conservative driver, but at times, about 30-40% of the time, I can become a very spirited driver, driving fast, braking fast, not lifting my foot off the pedal before a red stoplight and decelerating, etc. So I think these tires have a 60,000 miles treadwear warranty? I am currently on about 79,000 miles with the same tires, and it's been about 7,500 overdue that I've needed new tires, but I keep putting it off. I've had no problems up until 71,500 miles which is AMAZING, because these tires lasted about 11,500 miles past the treadwear. I'm not even going to write about the cons past 71,500 miles, cause frankly these tires have performed exceptionally well past the 60k treadwear warranty. For the duration of miles from 0-71,500, I have driven 65-75 mph in heavy rain without any slipping, veering to the side, and bare-to-none hydroplaning, or fishtailing. AMAZING! And my car is light too by the way. Tires were amazing in the summer as expected. And for the snow season cause I live in the northeast New Jersey, it has performed well. I have driven basically on every snow day, because I don't like to be kept inside and I honestly enjoy driving in hazardous conditions; it's a little exciting and of course scary. Now, I don't drive crazy fast during the snow season; I drive slow and steady, and these tires have never failed me. I have never had my wheels spin, and my car amazingly never got stuck in the snow weather, and my car is light and low. I am currently buying another tire brand with more treadwear life on it to see how it compares: Yokohama Avid Ascend 205 55/R16; we'll see how that goes. Worse comes to worse, if those tires don't pan out, I will assuredly buy this same exact set of tires!

...Wet performance is TERRIBLE. I accidentally spin the tires when the roads are damp - frequently.

I made an account JUST to review this tire.

These Optimo H426's came as factory on my 2016 Fiesta. Here are my concerns:

1. Wet performance is TERRIBLE. I accidentally spin the tires when the roads are damp - frequently. I'm not gunning it, and this car isn't exactly a powerhouse. I haven't had a chance to drive them in the snow, but I wouldn't want to.

2. I have 27K miles on the tires, and they are down to 4/32' on all of them. I check my pressures regularly and keep them a tad above the door sticker. 38 PSI.

These seem to wear quickly, but the real issue is the wet performance.

...Wet traction is ok once you get going, but any attempt at anything more than a slow start from a light and they..again..just spin...

Absolutely AWFUL tires. At 16k miles, the center treadblocks have NO siping left at all. Side blocks have a little bit left, but that's all irrelevant when compared to the utter lack of traction these tires possess. In 1 inch of snow on a maybe 10% grade, they just spin. No grip whatsoever in snow. Wet traction is "ok" once you get going, but any attempt at anything more than a slow start from a light and they..again..just spin. I cannot get these off my car fast enough. Switching to Continental Surecontacts. AVOID these Hankook tires, they are unsafe, puncture prone, hard to balance, and provide ZERO grip in winter. They also wear out far too quickly, I'm shocked they were ever used as an OEM tire.

These are the absolute worst set of tires to drive on in the snow I have had in 40 years of driving. Even in light snow, they are scary slippery and have virtually no traction. The people at at Hankook that labeled these all-season should be forced to apologize to every single person that had these as OEM tires, then fired. Because of this, I will never consider buying a Hankook tire again.

...it is dangerous to drive in light snow on slight uphills. the tires offer no grip or no traction...

since this tire is advertised as an all-season tire, i have to give this tire an unacceptable rating. perhaps it is because of the size and weight of my car (2016 mini cooper hardtop 4dr base model with 15" wheels), but this tire is supposed to be approved by bmw/mini - it was the original standard equipment that came with my new car purchase. it is dangerous to drive in light snow on slight uphills. the tires offer no grip or traction. these are acceptable for warm weather months; i do not have experience with extreme rain, so i cannot comment on wet performance. i switch to michelin x-ice for each winter, and those are much better (as expected) for the cold months.

...On dry traction it is acceptable with some amount of road noise but it grips decently and ride is comfortable...

This tire came standard on my Kia K900. It is downright dangerous in snow. On a recent trip to Canada in winter I was slip sliding all the way. In fact at one point in upper Michigan I almost went headlong into another car. Fortunately i was able to steer myself through a maze of cars by switching lanes till i stopped. This is why i feel compelled to warn others to watch out on snow and ice. On dry traction it is acceptable with some amount of road noise but it grips decently and ride is comfortable. There is also one problem i noticed. If i keep factory recommended tire pressure it develops a flat that causes vibration when cold but goes away when tires get rolling for some time. The workaround is to increase tire pressure 2 points to 34 psi after which the problem is solved quite a bit.

...Even so, at 15k miles which are mostly highway 55-75mph there is ONLY 5/32 - 6/32 OF TREAD LEFT. This is the fastest wearing set of tires I've ever owned...

These tires came factory installed on my 2018 Ford Fiesta SE. For a highway tire in dry conditions they're just ok; they ride decent and they're loud but I get it, it's a cheap econobox car with little sound deadening.

None of mine are showing any defects like others have reported, and are kept at recommended pressure and rotated every 5k miles. Even so, at 15k miles which are mostly highway 55-75mph there is ONLY 5/32 - 6/32 OF TREAD LEFT. This is the fastest wearing set of tires I've ever owned. My Mustang tires lasted longer, and it's not like I'm driving Ken Block's Fiesta drifting around corners.

Terrible tire, don't buy them unless you want to replace them next year.

Rotations were down every 5,000 miles per the service records, except for the recent one I went 10,000 but that it is still unacceptable for a tire to be bald at 24,000 miles when the warranty is 60,000. The worst part is the tires already had about 10,000 miles when I purchased my vehicle and Hankook is refusing to warranty them because i'm not the one who purchased these. I personally have never purchased Hankook and because of this experience I never will, nor will I ever recommend this brand.
