The Optimo H426 is one of Hankook's Grand Touring All-Season tires developed for Original Equipment (O.E.) use on sporty sedans. The Optimo H426 is designed to provide attractive looks, predictable handling and year-round traction, even in occasional light snow.
The Optimo H426 features a symmetric, independent-block tread design that uses an all-season tread compound to provide traction on dry, wet and light snow-covered roads. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced by nylon to stabilize the tread area and a polyester cord body to help cushion the ride.

Feedback patterns show the Hankook Optimo H426 delivers excellent dry traction (scores 9-10 frequently noted), with responsive handling in dry conditions. However, comfort receives mixed feedback, with some noting a smooth ride while others report road noise and firmness. Treadwear raises concerns, with many reports of rapid wear and lower-than-expected tread life. Winter traction struggles in snow and ice, with scores often below 5, and wet traction shows inconsistency-decent grip in light rain but hydroplaning risks in heavy downpours. While strong in its core dry performance, limitations in all-season versatility and durability may affect long-term satisfaction for drivers prioritizing year-round use.

...On dry surfaces, it handles relatively well, but it is not built for any weather other than dry...
Since day 1, this tire has not been able to handle snow. I live in Chicago and have driven in snow my whole life and have never had an issue until this tire. Slight grades in under 1" of snow and I couldn't make it up the tiniest of inclines. I couldn't even call this a hill and my car was sliding backwards. On dry surfaces, it handles relatively well, but it is not built for any weather other than dry. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy these. I'm shocked they come stock on any car sold in the Midwest as they can feasibly be used about 4-6 months out of the year (at least safely used).

...If you don't exit highways at over 60mph, you should be ok with them. They let you know when traction is fading and respond well to steering...
These were my OEM tires on my car. I have to admit I have abused them. I always end up accelerating in highway exits since my car is the SE and the suspension feels really nice.
I moved to Minnesota in January and thought I would need to change them instantly but I survived my first snow driving.
These tires don't fill my needs but they're a very well put tire. If you don't exit highways at over 60mph, you should be ok with them. They let you know when traction is fading and respond well to steering. When the car had over 60% thread I drove at 125mph under rain and they performed great.
All in all, these work well in sub-zero temperatures if no snow is present. In heavy snow, shifting was done at 1000rpm to keep traction. These were not made for deep snow but rather for cold temps, water and some slush.

Many customers report mediocre wet traction, with scores between 0-6 highlighting a tendency to hydroplane and slide. Disappointing performance for an all-season tire.

...Traction with these tires is absolutely the worst of the many tires/vehicles I have driven including really cheap no-name tires. With just over 30k mileswet traction is non-existent.
These are the stock tires on my Ford Explorer Limited and I am shocked that Ford put such a substandard tire on what is otherwise a very high performing SUV. Traction with these tires is absolutely the worst of the many tires/vehicles I have driven including really cheap no-name tires. With just over 30k miles wet traction is non-existent.

...I agree with the previous reviewer's comment: this tire has the worst wet, snow, and ice traction of any tire I've ever owned (and I've driven nearly 50 years). Even wet leaves cause skidding...
I'm shopping for tires because here in Michigan, trying to stop on mixed ice & light snow from about 30 mph, resulted in skidding more than 70 yards, then hitting a curb at over 10 mph, gashing a hole in one of my OEM Hankook 426's. Almost no control at all. I agree with the previous reviewer's comment: this tire has the worst wet, snow, and ice traction of any tire I've ever owned (and I've driven nearly 50 years). Even wet leaves cause skidding. Very good dry traction, fairly quiet, absorptive ride. Recommended for non-aggressive driving on dry pavement, but seem quite unsafe in wintry conditions.

...However, in rain or snow they are horrible. If you enjoy hydroplaning and having slipping and sliding in snow and ice, then these may be your tires. They are in a word UNSAFE!...
If you live in a dry climate these may be tolerable for the price. However, in rain or snow they are horrible. If you enjoy hydroplaning and and having slipping and sliding in snow and ice, then these may be your tires. They are in a word "UNSAFE"! Ford should be ashamed at putting these pieces of junk on their most expensive Ford Explorer limited

Winter traction ratings for the Hankook Optimo H426 are concerning, with most scores between 0-3. Customers report slippery in snow, loss of traction, and getting stuck, highlighting unacceptable winter performance. While a few ratings reach 7-8, the majority indicate lack of snow and ice grip, making it unreliable in winter conditions.

I've been driving for over 25 years and can honestly say the hancook optimo H426 is the most dangerous tire I've ever owned in light snow once they hit the halfway wear life of 30,000. My father-in-law also stated the same thing once he used them in very light (like a dusting on the road) snow. These tires should be pulled for safety reasons!...

However, if you live in an area that will not see snow then they should be acceptable for city/highway. Again, I thought the tire was fine until they reached the 30k mile mark.

Worst tires I have ever had on a car. Did not think I would make it to work today in the snow. tires will be replaced in 2 days. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THESE TIRES.

Came standard with the car and if you drive in regular conditions the are fine but once it snows/ice look out. Will replace as soon as I can afford/find a good all season tire. If I had known at the time I bought this car how bad these tires are in light snow (1 - 2 inches) I would have requested they put different tires on...

Many scores between 0-6 indicate uncomfortable ride and awful noise. Despite some 7-10 ratings, frequent complaints cite harsh vibrations and poor comfort in this Grand Touring tire.

...nosiest and roughest riding tire we have ever had other than those on a work truck. You would swear the bearings are bad with the amount of noise...
This is the nosiest and roughest riding tire we have ever had other than those on a work truck. You would swear the bearings are bad with the amount of noise. Traction is ok but nothing exciting. In Alabama we don't get much snow but these tires don't handle snow well at all. Very disappointed in the tires and that they are spoiling what has been a good car.

...The ride is hard and the road noise is very loud...
With 14,500 miles on these tires they are 75% worn... 4/32 tread left. These are the factory installed tires that came on the car when I bought it new in 2009. These tires will be worn out by 18,000 miles. The ride is hard and the road noise is very loud. I have had my cars alienment checked 3 times at my dealer and its always in alienment. I keep the tire pressure at 32lbs which is the auto manfactures recommend pressure.I also rotate them every 6,000 miles. I would not recommend these tires

...The noise level is above average on the highway...
I'm an easy going driver (80% highway/ 20% City - usually drive the speed limit and not more than 5 mph over) and I drive approximately 30-35,000 miles per year. These tires are probably the worst tires I have ever had on any vehicle I have owned in 30+ years. I could not and would not recommend them to anyone. I have had traction problems in mild rain, any amount of snow and these tires are not safe in anything but dry weather. Given that I live in Chicago, this may have some influence on my opinion. The noise level is above average on the highway. The only good things I can say about these tires is that the fuel economy is better than average, they are relatively inexpensive (and came as the OEM tire on my vehicle).

Many customers report unacceptable tread life, with scores between 0-5 indicating rapid wear and needing early replacement. While some rate it 9-10, widespread dissatisfaction highlights premature wear and less mileage than expected for a Grand Touring All-Season tire.

...However, the treadwear on these tires is also awful. They only have about 20,000 miles on them and I doubt I'll get more than another 5,000 miles out of them before they will need to be replaced. I would think tires that are rotated regularly, on a car with no alignment issues, and not driven aggressively should last longer than this.
These tires are dreadful in any snow over 1". The car slides all over the road and is unsafe. I had to buy a set of snow tires for winter driving. The tires are adequate for dry and wet traction. Please buy something else. Very dangerous and unstable. Horrendous tread wear. Only have 6,500 miles approx. mileage and half the tread is gone already. Mostly city driving, but still, these tires shouldn't even be street or highway legal. OEM tires. Came on a new 2015 Hyundai Elantra SE. Shame, Shame Hankook for even selling these tires.
