The Crugen HP71 is Kumho's Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season tire developed for drivers of crossovers, SUVs and light duty pickup trucks looking for a quiet, luxurious ride combined with all-season capability, including light snow traction.
The all-season tread compound of the Crugen HP71 is molded into a five rib, symmetric design featuring Kumho's Variable Pitch Technology that provides a quiet and comfortable ride while also allowing for easy rotation patterns to promote even wear and longevity. A rigid center rib provides solid on-center feel and combines with strong shoulders in aiding handling and steering response while also adding stability to combat irregular wear. Notches in the ribs and wide grooves in the shoulders combine with four circumferential grooves to evacuate water from the contact patch for hydroplaning resistance, and sipes and independent tread blocks create biting edges for traction in slippery conditions.
The tire's internal structure consists of a two-ply polyester cord body for enhanced ride quality and improved strength. Two wide steel belts sit on top of the casing and are reinforced by two spirally wrapped nylon cap plies, enhancing handling, durability and stability at highway speeds.

So I got these tires based on the reviews. I live where it rains a lot and needed a good set weather tire. I got a nice surprise and got a chance to see how they did in snow as well. Overall I am very happy with the wet weather ride and was able to drive confidently in the snow. I would buy these again.

Love these tires, have them for about 1400 miles and the difference between these and my Toyo Cross Country is night and day, traction, wet road handling, and quietness just stood out from what I'm used to having to deal with. Tires are great !!! and I would definitely buy another set of these when the time comes.

I spent a lot of time on here researching tires and reading reviews. I was almost going to go with the Perelli Scorpion Verde but the customer reviews were surprisingly bad. What sold me on these Kumhos was the rebate ($200) and the overall good reviews.
I only have a few miles on them so far but I am pleasantly surprised. They stick to dry road like glue. Wet road driving is good. They are very quiet, but I'm not even sure why this is an issue with some people. Don't people listen to music when driving?
I live in New England so I'll update after I've driven them in winter conditions. So far, highly recommend.

I heard some bad things about the traction and noise level of these tires but they are wrong. I put 4,000 miles on these tires and they are great. No traction issues at all. I live in Boston, MA and been using them during December snow. I am impressed for the price on these. and the thread wear is amazing. I went to Syracuse and back, then to the Bronx and back. after 4000 miles the thread is full of life and they are quiet. Worth the money

...During the winter is probably where this tire really shines. I've never got stuck with these tires and it's been flawless every winter. At most I can free myself with a shovel in my trunk if I get into deep snow that's above 2 foot...
These tires were put on my car around 40k miles and let me tell you I had the best 2 and half years with these tires. I’ve never got a single flat tire regardless of how many potholes I fell in. I’ve had to get at most 2 patches a tire throughout the years of using them. During a nice dry day these tires have enough grip to turn any vehicle into a corner monster. Rainy days I’ve had no issues with these tires my wheels never spun or slipped even with hard acceleration. I do have a slow vehicle but even with lower grip tires I can get some wheel spin in the rain. During the winter is probably where this tire really shines. I’ve never got stuck with these tires and it’s been flawless every winter. At most I can free myself with a shovel in my trunk if I get into deep snow that’s above 2 foot. Definitely recommend these tires if these fit your vehicle I’ve had better experience with these tires than continental, michelin , goodyear, and Bridgestone. I’ve had all the brand names on my other vehicles but nothing topped Kumho tires. Kumho is also not as pricey as Bridgestone or michilen

The HP71 is an older style tire, technology wise. The Escalade is a heavy SUV by all standards. The tire compound is not all that grippy compared to the premium tires. On light snow it is okay but nothing compared to a Michelin LTX M/S. All this means is that the tire takes longer to stop (wet or dry) in an emergency and it washes out in the corners. Daily driving to/from work on a normal day they are fine. Ask the tire to support the vehicle during a spirited maneuver and you better back off quickly. Western states use a variety of pavement mixes depending on season types and some mixes are greasier than others (Nevada is oily, Utah is close to average). It is always tempting to save a few bucks but in the end, you are better off paying for the best tire with the latest technology.

...Good wet/water traction, great dry traction relatively quiet ( quieter than previous Michelens)...
These came up in suggestions of the tires. Put them on and noticed they are definitely worth more than paid for them. Good wet/water traction ,great dry traction relatively quiet (quieter than previous Michelens). Look pretty good on our van. I cant attest to snow as we live in Florida. I am very pleased with these tires so far, I will update this review if anything changes going forward.

...braked well under performance tested stops, did not break loose and was still VERY grippy...abs only went on once when turning into hard braking on a sandy area. Cornered well, side wall is still quite stiff like video and reviews say...
Went up one size. Saved thousands. Fit perfectly, look even better than stock on my upgrade Audi Avante 22X10.5" wheels. No rubbing. Still .5" from top control arm. Not so big I can tell gearing differences / only .5" taller. 1" wider fits better and does not look stretched like the 285's did on this 1/2" bigger wheel. Tire braked well under performance tested stops, did not break loose and was still VERY grippy.....abs only went on once when turning into hard braking on a sandy area. Cornered well, side wall is still quite stiff like video and reviews say, noise was way lower than my snows on the orig rims. They are good snows too / just hum. Acceleration was normal. The look is awesome. Bigger, wider, looks aggressive without being too much.

Virtually any tire would be a vast improvement over the OEM Alenza tires that VW provided. The OEM front tires were worn out in less than 12K miles and the rear tires were, literally, right behind them. The Kumho tires should last much longer and other than a bit rougher ride seem to be doing great.

Tires wear well and are very quiet, which was important to me. Tire Rack's ability to shave single replacement tire to match those on car saved me a huge amount of money. Local repair garage wanted to sell me four new tires to replace one with unrepairable puncture. Tires had about 3/4 tread still remaining.
