The Pilot Super Sport is Michelin's Max Performance Summer tire initially introduced as Original Equipment on several of the world's most sophisticated performance vehicles, including the exclusive, limited-edition Ferrari 599 GTO, Ferrari's fastest road car ever. Developed for drivers who care about how tire technology enhances their vehicle's performance and safety, Pilot Super Sport tires expand the Max Performance Summer tire performance envelope by delivering durability, handling and traction while increasing tread life.

Building on the development of racing tires designed to carry Prototype and GT class cars to endurance race victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring and Road Atlanta's Petit Lemans, Pilot Super Sport tires are designed to deliver consistent performance and longevity by blending Max Performance driving characteristics with extended tread wear.

While the importance of tire treadwear in endurance racing may not be immediately apparent, Michelin tires set records during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2010. One of the 2010 LMP Class leaders completed 46 consecutive laps on one set of tires with an average pace just 1% off of the pole position qualifying time. That's almost 400 racing miles on one set of tires at an average speed of 150 mph.

Additionally the overall winner used just 11 sets of tires to cover a record 3,362 miles, averaging nearly 140 mph and almost 300 racing miles per set of tires. That represented almost a 25% wear improvement compared to just one year earlier where the overall winner needed 14 sets of tires to cover 3,235 miles. By developing longer wearing racing tires without sacrificing performance, Michelin tires allowed the teams to run record race paces while converting some of the time previously spent changing tires in the pits into productive time covering more miles on the track.

While Pilot Super Sport tires are designed to allow sports cars, sporty coupes, performance sedans and supercars to achieve their full potential in dry and wet conditions, like all summer tires they are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The Pilot Super Sport features an asymmetric design molded of Michelin's Bi-Compound tread rubber featuring a Le Mans-inspired dry compound outboard side-by-side with their latest generation of wet compound inboard. The low-void outboard shoulder features a track-type compound to withstand the stresses of high performance cornering while the notched center ribs and inboard shoulder feature a compound designed for superior performance at very high speeds and in wet conditions.

The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wound Twaron cord. Twaron is a polyamide cord that offers a lightweight, high-strength reinforcement above the steel belts to enhance high-speed handling, wear and durability. Michelin FAZ Technology (Filament At Zero degrees) winds the Twaron cord around the tire circumference much the same way fishing line is wound onto fishing reels to allow Michelin engineers to tune tension and strength. The Pilot Super Sport features a polyester casing to promote a comfortable ride and responsive handling.

Pilot Super Sport tires are comparatively light, with weight savings of up to 10% compared to other tires of similar dimensions. This reduces unsprung weight to improve handling.

Limited sizes of the Michelin Pilot Super Sport are available with Michelin Acoustic Technology, which involves the manufacturer adhering a layer of sound-absorbing foam to the inner liner of the tire to reduce cabin noise in the vehicle. These sizes are identified on the Specs page and in the search results

Living in Ea NC we get very little frozen precipitation, but a pretty good amount of rain. I've been happy with wet traction. What little frozen precipitation we do get these tires handle it quite well.

Road noise is minimal, but my truck is a diesel and hearing road noise over the engine is hard.

...Recent rain provided wet test capabilities and again exceeded my expectations...

The tires were selected based on previous reviews and other small commercial van drivers I spoke with. We also recently had a record snow and ice accumulation and I was able to test their abilities in 8" snow, ice, sub-0* conditions. They exceeded my expectations and there no hills or frozen over roads I couldn't drive on (safe speeds for the conditions). Recent rain provided wet test capabilities and again exceeded my expectations. In dry road conditions they are also superb, great handing and comfort. Only thing different than the OE tires these replaced was the aggressive tread pattern is a little noisier ( that to be expected), however, they still rate a 10. There a a new set so my rating is based on condition driving, tire wear would be evaluated at higher mileage.
Highly recommend!

Truck is used for pulling trailers, highway driving and many miles of off-road use to get into our lake home (25 mile ride). We are also located in the Lake Superior snow belt and average about 250" of snow each winter. I have been in 14 plus inches of fresh snow many times with zero issues. These are the best tires I have ever had on any truck to date. They replaced the OEM set that had 74,000 miles on them. Great Tire!!

Category killer tire. Far superior to several other tires we've tried in our hard use case (racing toter home). This is the lowest road force balance number we've seen for our race vans. Super quiet, girppy, positive steering feel, and resists outside edge feathering on the steer axel.

I have no complaints about the performance of the tires... on pavement, I'm not sure any tire I've had can match the traction, comfort, and quiet these tires offer...

I bought these tires because they are the only all season tire in my size with the three peak mountain snowflake symbol for snow traction. I have no complaints about the performance of the tires, they are not off road tires and they are weak there, but on pavement, I'm not sure any tire I've had can match the traction, comfort, and quiet these tires offer. I bought them in hopes they would be quieter and longer lasting than their all terrain competitors and offer the poor weather traction at the same time. Given those requirements, this tire has no competitors, as it is the only highway all season tire, at least in my size, with the three peak mountain snowflake. My household has also had excellent performance from Michelin.

I'm writing this review because the treadwear on these tires is abysmal, and they have NO TREADWEAR WARRANTY, unlike all of their competitors, which are warrantied 50-60k miles (or even more for P metric sizes). I just had my tires rotated yesterday after 7,937 miles and the rears are below 50% tread, 6/32. At this rate, the tires will be at 4/32 by 16k miles and completely worn out by 20k miles. This is the sixth set of tires I've had on this truck in the 20+ years I have owned it and I have never experienced anything like this. Even all terrain tires, which I ran 4 sets before these, lasted longer than that.

This truck is regularly, almost 100% of the time, loaded with a 5th wheel that is within the specifications for this truck, 9,200 pounds and 2,200 pounds of pin weight. The tires have been maintained religiously, road force balanced, pressure checked every time the truck goes out, and never overloaded. These tires will be worn out in 2 1/2 years and have to be replaced at a cost of over $1,200 for 20k miles of use.

If you're in my situation, consider the on-road all terrain category where you can get the poor weather traction and a treadwear warranty if they don't last the rated life. Don't buy these tires.
