The Primacy MXM4 is Michelin's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for luxury sedan and coupe drivers looking to combine all-weather handling and traction with good noise and ride comfort. Most Primacy MXM4 tires meet Michelin's Green X standard* for eco-focused manufacturing and low rolling resistance, and confirms the tire's contribution to reducing vehicle fuel consumption, emission of CO2 gases and improving sustainability through conservation of natural resources. The Primacy MXM4 is designed to blend a quiet, comfortable ride, responsive handling and enhanced fuel efficiency with year-round all-season traction, even in light snow.

The Primacy MXM4 features Michelin's first use of their patented sunflower oil-enriched Helio Compound technology in an all-season tire to increase traction at low temperatures for improved braking and handling in the wet, as well as better overall performance in the snow. The Helio Compound is molded into an asymmetric tread design featuring a European handling profile with rounder shoulders that are designed to provide progressive, predictable cornering. Circumferential grooves evacuate water out from under the tire's footprint to reduce hydroplaning while Michelin's 3-D Variable Thickness Sipe Technology provides additional biting edges to enhance wet and wintertime traction.

The Primacy MXM4 was developed with Michelin Comfort Control Technology using computer-optimized design and precision manufacturing methods to reduce vibration and road noise. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by Michelin's BAZ (Banded At Zero) spiral-wrapped polyamide cord that stabilizes the tread area to enhance treadwear, handling and high-speed capability. The Primacy MXM4 features a polyester cord body to provide a smooth ride.

*Specific sizes featuring Green X technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Customers Say

Customers praise the Michelin Primacy MXM4 for its smooth, quiet ride (8-10 scores) and confident dry traction with precise cornering (9-10 scores). Wet performance earns strong marks for grip and hydroplaning resistance (8-10), while winter traction shows reliable capability in light snow (7-9) but mixed results on ice and deep snow (0-6). Treadwear receives mostly positive feedback (7-10), though some note rapid wear in certain conditions. As a Grand Touring All-Season tire, it balances comfort and all-weather versatility, with most drivers expressing satisfaction for daily driving and highway use. A few lower treadlife ratings (0-5) suggest variability in long-term durability.

...Good wet and dry traction as well (as with anything, within limits - we are talking about a Prius here)...

As of this writing, there are about 46k miles on these tires. There is still approx. 5/32nds wear left on them, and I'm confident they will last through the fall before changing them out. Per other comments, noticed a slight drop in mpg with these. Also - given the tread wear, they aren't as great in the New England snow, so switched out to my studded snow tires this year ('11 / '12), which of course, caused weather patterns to shift and produce NO SNOW... But, they did fine in snow the first two years of ownership. Good wet and dry traction as well (as with anything, within limits - we are talking about a Prius here). All in all, I think this is a good tire for consideration...

One of the best all weather, all season tires on the road. Great road hugging ability in wet or icy conditions. Very good cornering and steering control. I have the tires on both my Prius and my Camry and wouldn't have any others. These tires roll very well so the gas mileage of the Prius stays in the upper 40's/gallon under all driving conditions.

Researched tires for a long time. Finally decided on these mainly for the tread design and maker reputation. Only had tires a short time but got to test immediatedly in sloopy weather conditions. Day after install we got a Colorado snow and ice storm. Very happy with there response in braking, starting and cornering. I purchsed these for snow and ice conditions and they proved to be excellent. Can't speak for other factors at present, but in winter driving conditions they are outstanding. Enjoy the low noise, ride and handling characteristics already. I think I may be falling in love!

...I was told last year to buy new tires and I ignored it and slid around in the snow all winter. (Thankfully I didn't run into anyone.)...

Let me first say that I am NOT a car person at all. The fact that I am taking the time to write this review should in and of itself speak volumes. I was told last year to buy new tires and I ignored it and slid around on the good ole' snow all winter. (Thankfully I didn't run into anyone.) So I decided that I should buy some new tires before the snow flew and Michelin had a buy four tires get $70 buck back incentive. Now I have driven 650 miles and I can't believe what a difference a good tire makes. I feel like I have a new car. I did the research and read all of the reviews on here before my purchase and I seriously can't believe the people that had the nerve to not like these tires. I'm by all rights an idiot when it comes to cars and I could tell a huge difference and haven't even had the pleasure of getting in the snow and ice yet. I was a bit scared spending all that money on freaking tires, I am a single girl and didn't consider this a fun purchase at all. I primarily did it so everyone would get off my back and hopefully I wouldn't have to go through this process again anytime soon if I got it right this time. I tell you what, it was the best money I have spent in a loooong time. My original tires were Yokohama Geolanders that I now call the Geocrappers. The differences I have experienced so far is better gas mileage, improved braking, steering is more responsive, bumps and rough roads are much smoother. I will never again dread buying tires. I'm heading for Michelin's best from now on.

Initial review for these tires with only 2k miles. I will provide another update on treadwear and performance down the road. My initial impression was the significant inprovement in ride comfort. LR2s come equipped with Continental CrossContact UHP street tires performance tires. Not the best ride, treadwear or wet performance. So it was immediately noticeable once riding on the MXV4s. I have also had the opportunity to drive on these in rain, snow, & slush druning two recent trips to Lake Tahoe. They are excellent in heavy rain and surpassed my expectations in light and heavy snow in mountain driving. Excellent traction and very predictable and steady during inclement weather driving scenarios. I highley recommend these tires for Land Rover LR2s owners even though they do not match the OEM speed rating guidelines. But I doubt very few people are ever driving their LR2 above 118 mph. Not sure what Land Rover was thinking.

This tire is excellent with good traction in California summer and wet condition. It was raining so heavily in the weather of CA recently I was driving and suddenly a car was cutting in front of me at 50mph on Huntington Dr on Alhambra CA, so quickly that i had to step brakes fast to avoid an accident, the tire is very responsive. This had my save life. It was raining more than 3 inches that day. Rotate and balance tire every 5,000 miles or 6000 miles and alignment to equalize tread wear. The ride is very quiet and stiff because of the compound to make the tire last longer , but a good trade off. Make sure your shocks and suspension components are in good to excellent condition. Speed rating 94H You can speed to 80mph without shaking

...The tires remain quiet and smooth and still grip the road like a cat with his claws out in all types of weather...

These tires have made a positive impact on my Toyota the moment after they were mounted nearly 18 months ago. Indications are that I'm still shy of 1/3 overall wear even after 22K miles. That speaks volumes to me about Michelin's warranty claims which seem to be understated even though rated at 60K miles. The real question is what's NOT to like about this tire? I can't find a fault. The tires remain quiet and smooth and still grip the road like a cat with his claws out in all types of weather. I'm not sure it's kosher to knock the competion but I like these tires a lot better than the one's currently ranked higher. My brother in law who also owns an Avalon and that other tire begrudgingly agrees lol. Conclusion: a mighty fine tire that will continue to please you for a long long time. Ron T from Ohio.

...They corner real well even in a tight curve, are super quiet, and very very comfortable. Comfort with a little taste of performance is why I chose this car in the first place and the MVX4 is exactly the right tire for it...

Before I submit my opinion of these Primacys, I have to say I almost laughed out loud after reading a couple of reviews that mentioned these tires don't wear well. Man, somebody needs to take their car in to have the suspension checked because if nothin else these things are practically bullet-proof. I and a few friends and family members use the MXV4s and love them. That's more than a coincedence (especially in this family lol.) I first tried the Primacy MVX4s a while after reading a professional review here at Tirerack.com. The Michilens bested two other very decent tires and was rated #1. That was good enough for me to give them a try. I'm sure glad I did as these have lived up to every expectation I could ever have about a tire. They corner real well even in a tight curve, are super quiet, and very very comfortable. Comfort with a little taste of performance is why I chose this car in the first place and the MVX4 is exactly the right tire for it. I would have given this tire a solid 10, but no tire I know of rates a 10 on ice unless they're studded like some qwere years ago. Bottom line, this is a GREAT tire.

This is truly an excellent tire. Very smooth, quiet, absorbs bumps very well and gives me a good mpg! My previous tire: the General Altimax HP was junk, in the sense that it produced so much noise (especially high pitch) that I could no longer bear it. I switched to this tire and noise levels have definitely gone down (although not completely eliminated as Mazda3s are known for their noisy cabins). The tire is very responsive to steering and doesn't seem to show a single sign of wear after 7000 miles :). Will update this review later.

...Now have 120,000 miles on vehicle ( 72,000 on tires) with 1/16 in tread above wear bars... I went through two sets of MXV4s on my previous 1996 Acura and used both sets for 70,000 (+) miles.

Installed MXV4 H-rated all-seasons on 2008 Maxima SL at 48,000 miles, replacing OE Bridgestones. Now have 120,000 miles on vehicle (72,000 on tires) with approx 1/16 in tread above wear bars. I average about 18-20.000 miles per year. I rotate and balance routinely between 6,000 & 7,500 miles and routinely drive 70-75 mph. I make about 6 road trips per year of 600-800 miles one way in each direction and commute regularly to work 40 miles/day with half the distance at freeway speeds of about 70 mph, other half of distance at 30-45 mph. About one-quarter of the 600 mile road trips are in winter weather to heavy snow districts. The rest are summer season trips, often in 90F temperatures. I went through two sets of MXV4s on my previous 1996 Acura and used both sets for 70,000 (+) miles. These are simply terrific tires.
