The X-Ice SNOW is Michelin's Studless Ice & Snow winter tire developed for drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers looking for confidence in winter's many different road conditions, throughout the life of the tire. Whether it's clear, cold winter roads; deep, heavy snow; or any icy condition in between, the X-Ice SNOW is designed to deliver reassuring wintertime traction and stability.

The FleX-Ice™ 2.0 compound of the X-Ice SNOW utilizes inclusion technology, which generates micro-roughness on the tread surface, helping improve grip both in snow and on ice. The compound also contains a high silica content that ensures the tire maintains its flexibility, even in severe climates. This advanced compound is molded into a continuous V-Shape, directional tread pattern with increased groove widths compared to its predecessor, engineered to improve hydroplaning and slush performance, as well as increase the snow-to-snow traction needed for loose conditions. The X-Ice SNOW's tread elements contain two types of full-depth sipes with complementary traction effects. Notched sipes provide numerous biting edges that help enhance traction in adverse conditions, along with variable thickness sipes that further aid traction while supporting the tread elements to maintain an efficient contact patch for control on packed snow and clear roads.

All-Weather vs. Winter Tires: The Definitive Test(12:05)

Brent and TJ set off with a couple of objectives in this, the first test of 2026. The first is to highlight the differences between two types of Grand Touring tires: all-season and all-weather. Second, to see how they stack up to dedicated winter tires. The internet is a great resource, but not all the information out there is accurate, and this test is designed to truly set the record straight.

...Wet -> Seems good in the wet. I drove on wet roads and through deep puddles with no problem...

I am very impressed by these tires.
Comfort -> Outstanding ride quality. Better than the previous set of all seasons I had on the car.
Noise -> Also outstanding for a winter tire. No noticeable difference from all season tires.
Ice -> Unbelievably good straight line acceleration and braking on ice. I did not even realize a parking lot I stopped in was covered in ice until I got out of the car and my boots were slipping all over the place.
Slushy/sleety/icy granular road surface -> This is the only condition where I felt them lose grip. Going downhill or rounding sharp corners, you will need to go a little slower than if you had studded tires.
Light snow -> Absolutely no problem.
Deep snow -> I was able to do a K-turn in 6" of unplowed snow on a gravel driveway. The car and tires struggled a little to get going when transitioning from reverse to forward, but they found some grip and got me out of there. I would not be worried about that situation, but I imagine there might be a better tire for deep snow.
Wet -> Seems good in the wet. I drove on wet roads and through deep puddles with no problem.
Fuel economy -> Seems like I'm getting typical cold weather mpgs.

Overall, I do not think you could ask for a better all around studless winter tire. It rides and sounds like an all season tire tire while being able to drive on ice like it's not even there. Not quite as good as a studded tire for icy granular slush, but that's not enough to make me want to deal with all the drawbacks of a studded tire. Would definitely buy these again if I needed another set of dedicated winter tires.

...They have worked well on the highway and in the wet, but were clearly designed for snow grip and only snow grip...

The Michelin X-Ice’s have unbelievable grip in snow. The steering response and braking in 2” of snow is similar to an all season in the wet. They have worked well on the highway and in the wet, but were clearly designed for snow grip and only snow grip. If you are buying them for fun in the snow, they almost have too much grip for intentional sliding. I will be purchasing these again in the future for my wife’s car.

I’ve been on the fence about getting snow tires for many years living in a snowy climate with 2 wheel drive cars. This purchase has blown my mind in so many ways. I’ve driven in several different snow storms with heavy snow, wet, snow, dry snow and ice and my experience is the same driving and whether it goes from an experience of fear to one of control and safety. The only downside is that I feel impatient with other slow drivers now who are creeping along at 25 miles an hour because they’re held back by their tires and their fear of sliding off the road. I can pass jeeps and Subaru and pick up trucks with four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive like it’s nothing in the worst of conditions.

Never had dedicated snow tires before. ---- was I impressed! These were on my 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback hybrid this past winter. I felt unstoppable in the snow/ice/slush compared to everyone else on the road. Two wheel drive with dedicated snow tires were far better than the all-season tires on my wife’s AWD Subaru. I probably had too much fun on these.

...Because I downsize my rims/tires for the winter, the ride quality is actually better due to the taller sidewalls / more cushion...

This is my second time buying Michelin X-Ice tires; both my cars have these tires at the moment b/c it's winter here in WI. Because I downsize my rims/tires for the winter, the ride quality is actually better due to the taller sidewalls / more cushion. I love the tires. Notably, the X-Ice on my older car were installed back in Jan. 2021. I'm still driving on those tires and there is plenty of tread for another season. Truly impressed.

...After 5 seasons they have held up well but and show normal wear which is expected with the softer compound. I will only go to 30,000 miles before I replace them again...

My car comes factory with 235/45 R18 all seasons Bridgestones which I did not trust for the winter in Chicago. I bought these Micheline X-Ice and Tire Rack recommended going down a rim size which I did not have a problem because I also bought rims from them as well. I have been very pleased with the tires on a front wheel drive car. They accelerate decent from a start, handle well in light snow, heavy snow and slop. Braking is excellent. After 5 seasons they have held up well but and show normal wear which is expected with the softer compound. I will only go to 30,000 miles before I replace them again. They are quiet on the roads and handle decent in dry and wet conditions. I drive normal and the car responds to the tires well. When I first got them I went into an empty parking lot after it snowed to see how the tires handled. I did a lot of fast acceleration, sharp turns to see how far I could push the tires and a lot of fast stops. This was the safest way to test the tires. Having done this I was able to know how the tires would respond when it came time to driving in traffic. I will buy these again after they wear out.
