Tires are designed specifically for different vehicles and wheel sizes. Tell us about your vehicle or the specific size you want so we can help find the right tires for you.

The Scorpion STR A and Scorpion STR tires are Pirelli's premium Highway All-Season tires that were designed to deliver the Stability, Traction and Ratings (STR) appropriate for today's light trucks by adapting their performance to the needs of crossover vehicles, sport utility vehicles and light duty pickup trucks. The Scorpion STR tires are designed to combine a quiet and comfortable ride along with ease of handling and year-round traction, even in light snow.

The Scorpion STR's tread compound is molded into one of two similar, but slightly different symmetric tread designs. The tires featuring Pirelli's North American tread pattern are identified as Scorpion STR A tires, while those featuring their European tread pattern are simply identified as Scorpion STR tires.

The Scorpion STR A tire's North American tread pattern features continuous shoulder ribs and narrower groves between all of the independent tread blocks. This type of tread design would tend to result in a quieter, more even-wearing tire.

The Scorpion STR tire's European tread pattern features lateral grooves through the shoulder ribs and larger grooves between all of the independent tread blocks. This type of tread design would tend to result in a tire with better hydroplaning resistance and wet traction.

On the inside, both Scorpion STR tires feature twin, high- tensile steel belts reinforced with polyamide to provide strength and durability on top of a two-ply polyester cord body that helps cushion the ride.

NOTE: The Scorpion STR in the 215/65R16 98V can be used in axle pairs to substitute for the Scorpion ST in the 215/65R16 98H size on Volvo XC70 AWD vehicles.

Sooner or Later You'll Own Generals - Maybe Now is the Time (04:02)

If you ask people about General tires, many will remember the decades-old slogan "sooner or later you'll own Generals." General recently introduced the Grabber HTS as the newest member of the Grabber family of SUV and pick-up/light truck tires, focusing on all-season traction and ride quality for drivers who never need to venture off paved roads and highways. To gain a better understanding of how well the new General Grabber HTS fits with today's SUVs, we did some comparing. Maybe now is the time.

Customers Say

Drivers consistently rate the Pirelli Scorpion STR as a strong highway all-season performer, with many praising its excellent dry traction (9-10 scores) and confident wet grip, including hydroplaning resistance. Treadwear receives positive feedback overall, though some note rapid wear in certain conditions. Comfort scores highlight a smooth, quiet ride for most drivers, with occasional mentions of road noise. Winter traction is generally reliable in snow and slush, though ice performance shows mixed results. While the majority of ratings are positive across categories, a small subset of users report lower satisfaction with tread life and noise, suggesting variability in long-term experiences.

This is a follow up to my original comments back in Sept 2007. As it has turned out, these tires are fantastic on my 02 Silverado. My mileage has suffered a loss of about 1 and one-half miles to the gallon, but handling, especially in wet weather, has more than made up for it. In 7,000 miles, Ive used 2/32 of treadware - also increased tire pressure to 37-38 pounds.

This is a great all around tire particularly for this car. Very good in the light snow conditions and heavy rains we experience here. Dry handling is superior and the car always feels balanced and stable.

I am in Missouri, so I don't get too much snow. The OEM Bridgestones were replaced with these Pirellis, and during a recent storm with a layer of ice followed by 8+ inches of snow, the difference was like night and day. The only way the vehicle broke loose was when I tried to force it with excessive acceleration. In all other regards, the tires are a slight improvement over the Bridgestones. They aren't as quiet as I had hoped they would be, but the noise is not intolerable. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase.

...This tire kept me on the road and confident (which I'm not in snow). Our 500 foot driveway gets a ton of lake effect snow. I've never had an issue getting out even with 12+ inches of snow on the drive...

I bough a CX9 because it's a SUV that corners like a sports car. I'm from California where it is sunny all the time and moved to Michigan where snow seems to be on the ground 6 months out of 12. This tire kept me on the road and confident (which I'm not in snow).

Our 500 foot driveway gets a ton of lake effect snow. I've never had an issue getting out even with 12+ inches of snow on the drive.

On ice it's not as reliable (certainly would be good for a 2wd on ice) but good enough with AWD to stop and go.

I did a poor job of keeping up with tire rotation. So the front tires wore thin before the rear. Braking and handling did become worrisome with the thin treads. If I had maintained a good rotation they would have lasted another 10k plus (based upon rear tread life remaining).

I just replaced them with the exact same tire. My wife who is an aggressive driver already told me she appreciates the cornering, braking and handling improvements. Plan on getting another 70,000+ miles out of this set which I will be rotating on a regular frequency.

I would say it was a 50/50 split highway/city-back roads. My wife likes the back roads but we take long road trips so overall it balances out.

The drive road native is good with these on ice and snow and whatever nature throws my way.

...The have much better traction, they corner better, they are quieter, and the ride improvement is fantastic!...

These tires were original equipment on my car, actually the Scorpion ST was. However, this STR has improved the handling of the car noticeably, and they are still great in our snowy mountains outside of Santa Fe, NM. I'm on my third set, they really "sit" the car into the road. Mileage is just so-so, but the performance is worth it. I don't care if I don't get 50K out of a tire, I want it to be there for me when I need it. These Pirellis fit the bill. You won't go wrong, especially if you get into wintry conditions. I'm aware that my vehicle, the Volvo XC70 in combination with this tire, makes a force to reckoned with in winter conditions.

I feel in total control of the road...

I love this tire! At 72,000 miles on my first set I could still get mileage out of them according to BMW service department. I have an X3. I drive pretty hard but not insane. I feel in total control of the road; never slipped on wet roads. Have not had it on snow and ice much, but when I did I did not notice anything unusual. I highly recommend this tire!

I know this is not very many miles yet , but I am impressed already after putting up with the stock Goodyear Wrangler HP's for 42000 miles . The Pirelli's are much quieter and have a better ride than the Goodyears . I know when buying tires you always have to compromise on something so I will see as time goes on .

...The Pirellis are very quiet, and have predictably good handling...

My Pirelli Scorpion AS tires have been excellent. Tires will probably last 55K miles, including many city miles, some boat towing, and Forest Service roads. I keep the alignment correct and pressure at 36psi, have rotated every 8K miles. The Pirellis are very quiet, and have predictably good handling. Hard braking will cause any unsecured cargo to move, but the tires hold their grip. Recommended without reservation.

...A very comfortable tire, nice ride, quiet, and so far good treadwear...

Overall a great tire and a much better tire than the OEM Bridgestone Potenza's on an Infiniti FX35. A very comfortable tire, nice ride, quiet, and so far good treadwear. Excellent wet performance, but slightly slow turn-in and some sidewall flex keep it from being a great handling tire. Then again, pushing hard in a 4300 lb SUV may overwhelm most tires.

Overall I am pleased with the Pirellis in comparison to the OEM Dunlop 5000. At 30,000 miles with them, they needed to be replaced. Although I wont make it to the 65,000 warranted mileage, I probably can make it to 40-45,000. Not bad for a heavy SUV like the ML. My lone complaint is cupping that is creating a good deal of road noise. This in spite of "religious" rotation every 6,000 miles.
