The Scorpion STR A and Scorpion STR tires are Pirelli's premium Highway All-Season tires that were designed to deliver the Stability, Traction and Ratings (STR) appropriate for today's light trucks by adapting their performance to the needs of crossover vehicles, sport utility vehicles and light duty pickup trucks. The Scorpion STR tires are designed to combine a quiet and comfortable ride along with ease of handling and year-round traction, even in light snow.
The Scorpion STR's tread compound is molded into one of two similar, but slightly different symmetric tread designs. The tires featuring Pirelli's North American tread pattern are identified as Scorpion STR A tires, while those featuring their European tread pattern are simply identified as Scorpion STR tires.
The Scorpion STR A tire's North American tread pattern features continuous shoulder ribs and narrower groves between all of the independent tread blocks. This type of tread design would tend to result in a quieter, more even-wearing tire.
The Scorpion STR tire's European tread pattern features lateral grooves through the shoulder ribs and larger grooves between all of the independent tread blocks. This type of tread design would tend to result in a tire with better hydroplaning resistance and wet traction.
On the inside, both Scorpion STR tires feature twin, high- tensile steel belts reinforced with polyamide to provide strength and durability on top of a two-ply polyester cord body that helps cushion the ride.
NOTE: The Scorpion STR in the 215/65R16 98V can be used in axle pairs to substitute for the Scorpion ST in the 215/65R16 98H size on Volvo XC70 AWD vehicles.

Sooner or Later You'll Own Generals - Maybe Now is the Time (04:02)
If you ask people about General tires, many will remember the decades-old slogan "sooner or later you'll own Generals." General recently introduced the Grabber HTS as the newest member of the Grabber family of SUV and pick-up/light truck tires, focusing on all-season traction and ride quality for drivers who never need to venture off paved roads and highways. To gain a better understanding of how well the new General Grabber HTS fits with today's SUVs, we did some comparing. Maybe now is the time.
Drivers consistently rate the Pirelli Scorpion STR highly for its strong dry traction (scores 8-10) and reliable wet performance, with many noting confident handling in rainy conditions. Comfort receives praise for a smooth ride, though some mention moderate road noise. Winter traction shows solid capability in light snow, but a few users report mixed results on ice or in deeper snow. Treadwear feedback is divided, with many satisfied by longevity but others experiencing faster wear than expected. As a highway-focused all-season tire, it excels in everyday driving scenarios while maintaining balanced all-weather competence.

Though I have only had theese tires for a short time (550 miles) they are unbelievable! I have really put these tires to the test dry, wet, ice, or snow the traction is fanominal. The hydroplaning resistamce is also remarkable along with the cornering stability, steering Responsiveness, ride comfort, noise level, and at the time treadwear. I would definatly purchase these tires again. Lincoln made a great choice of putting these tires on the Navigaotr staock. I love them.

...They handle the highway great, confident in rain and on wet roads... they are just starting to make a little noise and lose a little responsiveness in rain, but this can be expected...
Tires came stock on my truck when purchased new. I've seen a lot of negative results about rounding and wearing. I was told by the dealer that they round quickly but wear well, which is consistent with my experience. I can't say I have any complaints about them. They handle the highway great, confident in rain and on wet roads, work fine for headlands to go hunting and slick boat launches. They will need to be changed in the next 5,000 miles or so and they are just starting to make a little noise and lose a little responsiveness in rain, but this can be expected. May purchase them again, since the alternatives I'm seeing don't really impress me.

...Although we have not used them in snow yet, the summer wet and dry traction is excellent...
We like these tires so much at 1500 miles that we insisted the dealer take them off our old escape and install them on our new one when we bought it! Although we have not used them in snow yet, the summer wet and dry traction is excellent, noise is low and comfort is very good. Have had no trouble like other reviews. Much better than stock contitrac SUV tires in all catagories. STRs look good too!

I am in Missouri, so I don't get too much snow. The OEM Bridgestones were replaced with these Pirellis, and during a recent storm with a layer of ice followed by 8+ inches of snow, the difference was like night and day. The only way the vehicle broke loose was when I tried to force it with excessive acceleration. In all other regards, the tires are a slight improvement over the Bridgestones. They aren't as quiet as I had hoped they would be, but the noise is not intolerable. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase.

...The Scorpions are aggressive when you need them and great in rain and snow.
I have been fairly impressed with these OEM tires. After 4 years and 34K, starting to look to replace. I have taken my X3 on two 1200 mile trips, both very enjoyable on these tires. The Scorpions are aggressive when you need them and great in rain and snow.

...They are smooth, quiet and track straight. Aggressive cornering with no squeals and a solid firm confident feel...
Getting a lot more miles out of these than I thought. I replaced the OEM Bridgestones with these and am very happy with all aspects. They are smooth, quiet and track straight. Aggressive cornering with no squeals and a solid firm confident feel. I mounted and balanced them when new and have held balance. Alignment is still the factory setting. BMW does not recommend rotating and I haven't. Wear is even with a little less on the rear and no cupping. These are an all season and do not perform well in deep snow, even when new. If I lived in an area with consistent snowy winters (I don't) I would get a winter tire.

...As for dry traction, mat the gas and it will hook up if you need to dart into traffic!...
I'm an official "tire snob" and can be picky. I'm the kind that will buy brand new tires for a brand new vehicle if they aren't perfect for me and have always leaned toward a brand that starts with the letter "M". With that said these are very, very good tires and I commend Ford for finally getting it right with good rubber for their OEM applications. Ours are the STRs (not the STR-As). We have 40,000 miles on this heavy truck-like vehicle and will probably reach upper 40's or maybe close to 50,000 miles before we hit the wear bars. If you are not getting 40,000+ miles out of these...then the problem lies elsewhere!?!?!? This is the softest riding and quietest tire I have ever had on a vehicle. But, that softness adds a little squishiness that some drivers may not like. To me, this just seems to absorb more bumps, cracks, etc. As for dry traction, mat the gas and it will hook up if you need to dart into traffic! As for wet traction, very pleased. As for hydroplaning......there's not a tire on the market that will prevent hydroplaning, therefore when I see a sizeable puddle of water...I SLOW DOWN!!! As for snow and ice traction.......ALL tires slip around in the ice, that's why they call it "ice"....IT'S SLICK!!! When I read these type of reviews: "This tire is dangerous in the snow and ice!", you have to wonder about the mentality of some drivers out there. It's ICE people, SLOW DOWN!
In short, it's an excellent "M+S" rated tire that rides great and compares every bit to other brands that will cost $1,000+. Michelin makes a fine tire, but unless the price of Michelins come back to Earth, new Scorpions are going right back on when these wear out. And will probably go with the ATRs on the F-150 when the OEM BFGs wear out.

I love this tire! At 72,000 miles on my first set I could still get mileage out of them according to BMW service department. I have an X3. I drive pretty hard but not insane. I feel in total control of the road; never slipped on wet roads. Have not had it on snow and ice much, but when I did I did not notice anything unusual. I highly recommend this tire!

...This is a fantastic tire for the X3; the ride used to be hard and unpleasantly harsh and noisy over bumps, tar strips, etc. Now in one day it was like getting a new car. The tires are silent; they absorb road irregularuties to an unbelievable level...
I replace Michelin Pilots A/S with the Pirelli STR because of problems with the Michelins. I chose the Pirellis carefully after reading the tests and reviews on tire rack. This is a fantastic tire for the X3; the ride used to be hard and unpleasantly harsh and noisy over bumps, tar strips, etc. Now in one day it was like getting a new car. The tires are silent; they absorb road irregularuties to an unbelievable level; they are great in wet conditions including snow, wonderfully grippy on ice; the noisy bumpy ride is gone, replaced by a supple controlled ride with more tire feel than the Michelins. For the first time in a year I enjoy driving this car and so does my wife. Highly recommended for this type of vehicle.

I also feel they are fairly quiet on the highway. The Edge has a comfortable ride with them.
I am getting a new set after the initial set that came with my Ford Edge lasted 56,000 miles, they would have been on for at least 3,000 more, but a hole in one did not seal so I decided to replace the set. I was amazed at how long they have lasted, and I live on Long Island--lots of driving. Once I had 8 inches of heavy wet snow in my driveway, when my friend did not plow it, I was able to get the Ford Edge out as though it were just 2 inches. Some of that is due to the all-wheel drive system, but the car broke out like nobody's business. I was very impressed. I also feel they are fairly quiet on the highway as well. The Edge has a comfortable ride with them.

...Gone is the wallowing on the highway and over bumps. The reduction in tire noise has been, to say the least, DRAMATIC!! No more tire slap over freeway expansion joints. No more BONG over potholes, no more anything bad...
Bought these to replace the terrible as all get out Cooper Tires I shoved on it just cuz they were cheap. Man what a night and day difference between the Scorpion and the Cooper. Not to mention the OE tire. Treadwear has been spectacular, handling is much improved. Gone is the "wallowing" on the highway and over bumps. The reduction in tire noise has been, to say the least, DRAMATIC!! No more tire "slap" over freeway expansion joints. No more BONG over potholes, no more anything bad. I cant say enough good things about this tire. Recently had them rotated and I was asked how many weeks ago I bought the tires, the guy had to pick his jaw off the floor when I told him they had about 12-14 thousand on them. He guestimated that they would last 60k by the minimal wear on them. For the price, handling, comfort and quiet I do not think there is a better tire on the market for SUV and LTs. Snow traction in the deep wet stuff is not all that great, but I really did not have any problems until a 4% grade and 13 inches of unplowed snow. Gotta love my driveway!

Customers praise treadwear with most scoring 7-10, noting long-lasting performance. However, some report premature wear, reflected in lower ratings (0-6). High scores highlight durability, while concerns focus on inconsistent wear patterns.
