The Scorpion STR A and Scorpion STR tires are Pirelli's premium Highway All-Season tires that were designed to deliver the Stability, Traction and Ratings (STR) appropriate for today's light trucks by adapting their performance to the needs of crossover vehicles, sport utility vehicles and light duty pickup trucks. The Scorpion STR tires are designed to combine a quiet and comfortable ride along with ease of handling and year-round traction, even in light snow.
The Scorpion STR's tread compound is molded into one of two similar, but slightly different symmetric tread designs. The tires featuring Pirelli's North American tread pattern are identified as Scorpion STR A tires, while those featuring their European tread pattern are simply identified as Scorpion STR tires.
The Scorpion STR A tire's North American tread pattern features continuous shoulder ribs and narrower groves between all of the independent tread blocks. This type of tread design would tend to result in a quieter, more even-wearing tire.
The Scorpion STR tire's European tread pattern features lateral grooves through the shoulder ribs and larger grooves between all of the independent tread blocks. This type of tread design would tend to result in a tire with better hydroplaning resistance and wet traction.
On the inside, both Scorpion STR tires feature twin, high- tensile steel belts reinforced with polyamide to provide strength and durability on top of a two-ply polyester cord body that helps cushion the ride.
NOTE: The Scorpion STR in the 215/65R16 98V can be used in axle pairs to substitute for the Scorpion ST in the 215/65R16 98H size on Volvo XC70 AWD vehicles.

Sooner or Later You'll Own Generals - Maybe Now is the Time (04:02)
If you ask people about General tires, many will remember the decades-old slogan "sooner or later you'll own Generals." General recently introduced the Grabber HTS as the newest member of the Grabber family of SUV and pick-up/light truck tires, focusing on all-season traction and ride quality for drivers who never need to venture off paved roads and highways. To gain a better understanding of how well the new General Grabber HTS fits with today's SUVs, we did some comparing. Maybe now is the time.
Drivers consistently rate the Pirelli Scorpion STR as a strong highway all-season performer, with many praising its excellent dry traction (9-10 scores) and confident wet grip, including hydroplaning resistance. Treadwear receives positive feedback overall, though some note rapid wear in certain conditions. Comfort scores highlight a smooth, quiet ride for most drivers, with occasional mentions of road noise. Winter traction is generally reliable in snow and slush, though ice performance shows mixed results. While the majority of ratings are positive across categories, a small subset of users report lower satisfaction with tread life and noise, suggesting variability in long-term experiences.

...Yet, I also want spirited performance under dry conditions and wet conditions... This tire fulfills a reasonable balance of these opposing factors...
I need the convenience of run-flat tires. I need all-weather performance, as I do a lot of traveling in the upper Midwest during the winter. I want a comfortable, quiet ride. Yet, I also want spirited performance under dry conditions and wet conditions. I do not need off-road capabilities. This tire fulfills a reasonable balance of these opposing factors. This is my third set of these tires on my BMW X5 35d MSport. I got about 38K miles from the last two sets. I expect the same from this set. So, as long as you don't want extreme handling/braking performance, 60K tread life, or off-road capabilities in a run-flat tire, this is a terrific choice.
By the way, this was my first time using TireRack and the buying experience could not have been easier. TireRack offered me choices that my local retailers (Sam's Club, Costco, PepBoys, NTB, and independent shops) could not. The regional distribution center shipped the tires to my independent installer in 3 days. The independent installer recommended by TireRack (Firestone, Opelika, AL) was very professional. I will be using TireRack for my future tire purchases.

...On wet and dry roads, these tires are excellent. They grip like they were made of velcro...
This will be my third set of Scorpion Verde's on a 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT. On wet and dry roads, these tires are excellent. They grip like they were made of velcro. There is little to no noise. The two downsides are tread wear and winter driving. For tread wear, they are a soft tire so understandably, you won't get more than 20-25,000 miles out of a set if you drive aggressively. For snow, you may as well park your vehicle as driving on snow or ice is like driving with thru snot on tires made of marble. There is absolutely no grip. It ain't happening. That is why these are called 3-season tires. For winter, I recommend switching out to Blizzaks which I've been doing for years.

...They do a fair job of providing traction in wet and dry conditions, but snow and ice can be challenging to maintain traction...
Run flat tires still have a ways to go in regards to comfort and quietness but the Pirelli Verde are about the best I've run so far. They do a fair job of providing traction in wet and dry conditions, but snow and ice can be challenging to maintain traction. Until more refinements are made in the run flat category by all manufacturers, I will continue to use Pirelli as they provide the highest quality for the most reasonable prices.

The Pirelli Scorpion STR delivers excellent snow traction with most ratings 9-10. Ice and deep snow performance is reliable (scores 7-8), though some note minor concerns in extreme winter conditions.

...They are also superior in all weather conditions, from dry to rain to snow...
I bought the Pirelli Scorpion run-flats about 3 years ago to replace the OEM Michelin MXM4 non-run-flats. The amazing thing about these tires is although they are run flat (and therefore have stiffer side walls) they actually have a better ride than the original non-run-flat tires. They are also superior in all weather conditions, from dry to rain to snow. They are just better, period.
It should be noted that the handling, ride, traction ratings I am giving here are versus other all-seasons I have had. They are certainly not in the same league as the Pilot Sport summers in dry warm conditions or Blizzak winters in the winter that I use on other cars. But as a compromise all season tire they are actually better than most I have tried.
The only downside is the tread life. At 28,000 miles the tire is nearly at the tread wear bars and needs to be replaced before the winter comes. Then again, the OEM Michelins were used up at around 27,000 so maybe this is par for the course for this type of tires. I'm likely buying another set in the next month.

...Overall the winter performance was very good with good traction on acceleration and braking in both icy and snow packed conditions...
Purchased these to replace OEM Michelins that were well worn at 32,000 mi and were not the best in winter driving conditions even when newer. Overall the winter performance was very good with good traction on acceleration and braking in both icy and snow packed conditions. Dry and wet performance was also very good both in city and mountain driving. Since these run flats come with no tread warranty I expected a relatively short life for these tires of around 30-35k mi and they lasted 28,000 mi. The tread life was a bit dissapointing since the tire does handle well in all conditions and there are not many options out there in this size for run flats. Would probably buy again if I only wanted run flats because of their winter performance but switching to Continental Cross Contact LX 25 non RF and relying on a portable pump and goo instead for the next set of tires.

...It was a pretty mild winter in MN, but they were more than up to the challenge when things got slick...
I have never had luck with tires on any BMW vehicle that I have owned until now. I notice they are much quieter than the Michelin or Goodyears I have had on previous vehicles or dealer loaners. It was a pretty mild winter in MN, but they were more than up to the challenge when things got slick. I'm at 26,000 mi and should have no problem getting another 5-10,000 out of them

...Dry superb. Great turn in and grip...
Initially, tires excellent. Bought Jeep new 7/2014 with OEM Pirellis. Logged a lot of miles very quickly. Rain and dry superb. Great turn in and grip. However, tires no match for NE Pa winter. Straight tracking good, but poor performance with stopping and acceleration. I did not feel tires should be rated for snow. Good 3 season tire. I need more grip in winter. Tire noise increased exponentially after 18k - UNBEARABLE! 400 mile trip to Vermont gave me a headache. Front tires now past wear bars in middle. Rotated and proper pressure maintained. Tires good for 22-24000 max. Way too much money for tire even though W rated (only one on market, hence crazy price) Sure, run-flat good idea, but I have a full spare with tow package. In summary, pretty good performer new, poor disappointing winter tire, jet engine drone unacceptable over 18k. Will not replace with same. Looking at Yokohama Parada Spec-X at 1/3 price.

...Turn in is sharp, handling is precise, and wet traction is very good. Braking performance is as expected...
I purchased these to replace the Bridgestone Duelers Run Flats that came on the vehicle. These Pirellis are easily better in wet and dry conditions and are quieter, smoother, and handle road irregularities much better than the Duelers. These tires finally provide the ride quality I expect from my SUV.
Turn in is sharp, handling is precise, and wet traction is very good. Braking performance is as expected. The tires provide a surprisingly smooth and quiet ride in most road conditions. Very little noise is transmitted into the cabin when traversing minor road irregularities. The tire soaks up harsh road irregularities without providing the harsh response normally expected from run flats. In fact they don't feel like run flats at all.
I am certainly very pleased with these tires so far. Once I have enough miles on these tires to evaluate tread wear I'll update this review.

...These were a lot quieter and more comfortable than the previous ones...
This is my 3rd set of these tires Verdes. Frankly, I did a lot of research and these were not the ones BMW crazies recommended. Here is the catch - Pirelli changed the design. I lost my tire guy but back then I remember comparing the threads with him and they were not the same. These were a lot quieter and more comfortable than the previous ones. I have a different X5 now with bigger tires and these Verdes are not on the list, but if they come I’ll get them again

...The ride is quiet, stable, predictable and comfortable...
This has been a very good set of tires so far for our ‘21 Q7 Prestige. The ride is quiet, stable, predictable and comfortable. They have never shown any signs of breaking loose on wet surfaces and are wearing very evenly and as expected. A recent rotation and balance indicates a tread depth that should yield about 37-38 thousand miles which is very acceptable by me. I have not driven in any snow as yet but given their overall traction and with Audi Quattro, no reason to believe that they would not be quite able to handle light snow just fine. No tire does well on ice. I would definitely buy them again.

There is a lot to like about these tires, especially by comparison to other loud or stiff run-flats. But the tread-wear is atrocious. 16K Miles and I'm beyond the wear indicators. If they were half the cost, maybe I could make peace with half the expected mileage. At this cost, never again.

COMPLETE JUNK. Tire warranty is 65,000 miles, I got less than 16,000 on them at this point and they are at 2/32, 3/32, 3/32, and 4/32. They were installed in 6/2020, this is 11/2024. These are on my wife's van, and the typically doesn't even do the speed limit when driving. I rotate my own tires, so I cannot provide documentation for any pro-rated warranty claim. Four years and 16k is completely unacceptable for a tire that was $120 a piece. I was a fan of Pirelli, but I will never buy another Pirelli again after this experience.
