The AVID Ascend LX is Yokohama's Standard Touring All-Season tire developed for drivers of sedans, coupes, crossovers and minivans who want a quiet ride and confident wet performance combined with dependable winter traction and long tread life. The AVID Ascend LX is designed to deliver grip in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even in light snow.
Yokohama BluEarth branding is used to identify an ecologically friendly series of tires that are designed to deliver environmentally, human and socially friendly solutions for drivers and their vehicles. AVID Ascend LX tires branded with the BluEarth symbol are identified on their Sizes and Specs pages.
The symmetric pattern of the AVID Ascend LX features an offset design and a five-block pitch sequence to help reduce pattern and road noise for a comfortable, quiet ride. The tread is molded from Yokohama's L-2 all-season compound that features a unique polymer blend designed to enhance wear resistance, and the wider, flatter tread contour helps to evenly distribute pressure within the footprint to combat uneven wear and improve tire longevity. The wide, circumferential and lateral grooves evacuate water from the contact patch to resist hydroplaning, and wavy 3D sipes in the shoulders plus notches in the intermediate ribs create biting edges for traction in light snow and on ice.
Internally, a polyester casing aids ride comfort and supports two wide, steel belts. A nylon reinforcement provides high-speed capability and enhances handling and durability.

...I have been impressed with the snow/ice traction and low noise on highways...
These tires have a great wear/cost combination. I have been impressed with the snow/ice traction and low noise on highways. The wet traction is average, but this may be due to my vehicle being FWD and lightweight.

...These tires are great, quiet, great traction in all conditions. with the Kia's AWD my wife never hesitates to drive no matter the conditions...
I've had great luck with Yokohama tires in the past, and these matched the OEM pretty closely. These tires are great, quiet, great traction in all conditions. with the Kia's AWD my wife never hesitates to drive no matter the conditions. I've driven a lot of highway miles, and these seem better than the stock tires we changed out. after 18,000 miles they still look brand new. I would definitely recommend these. and always get them from Tire Rack!! the only place I buy tires!

...I have also driven them around New England in the winter. While not a dedicated snow tire, I never had any issues getting to the top of my in-law's driveway, which is a steep hill...
These are my second set of Avid Ascend LX's. I live in Alabama, and they have done great during the summer downpours we get during thunderstorms. I have also driven them around New England in the winter. While not a dedicated snow tire, I never had any issues getting to the top of my in-law's driveway, which is a steep hill. Very good tire at a good price. I will definately be buying another set when these need replacing.

...If you are ok with 52k for tread life, these tires hold the road well.
Tires lasted 52k. I assumed that since these tires came with an 85k Yok limited tire warranty that they would actually last until about 75-80k. Wrong. After extensive forum googling it seems that a limited tire manufacturer tire warranty has nothing to do with actual tire tread. I had tires rotated every 6K at my local subaru dealer as they recommend 6k intervals for my oil changes. I called Yokohama and hey said they are ok with documented rotations at 5-6k. If you are ok with 52k for tread life, these tires hold the road well.

...I CAN lock up the tires if I nail the brake pedal, but you really have to try so I would say the dry traction is very good...
First off, I would say that these tires are a fairly good value for the money. I drive an old car but it has been very well maintained. All of the front suspension and steering components (except shocks) were replaced just before mounting these tires. Engine runs great and I rebuilt the transmission about a thousand miles ago so nothing in the driveline is influencing the tire's characteristics as far as I know. I would say that from the beginning I have always thought these tires were noisy. I also think they transmit more road vibration than I think they should. Now own or have owned 7 of this type of car and I recondition them. I know what they are supposed to ride like. These tires do not furnish they type of ride a mid-90's Thunderbird should have.
That being said, the seem to be a good all-around tire. They weren't the cheapest nor most expensive. They mounted and balanced well. The break-in period for these tires was longer that I have seen in all the tires I've ever purchased, which isn't a great deal, maybe 20 different sets, but they took over 500 miles to finally lose that new tire squishiness. I haven't yet driven them in a lot of rain but I have driven them in a heavy thunderstorm where I had to slow down to be able to see, but I noticed no bad wet driving tendencies. I live in the southern US so we have no snow.
The tires are wearing evenly and at 4500 miles they show no appreciable wear. I do not have Anti-lock brakes on my vehicle with new brake calipers and pads up front and much life left on the shoes for the rear drum brakes. I CAN lock up the tires if I nail the brake pedal, but you really have to try so I would say the dry traction is very good. Since I sell these cars fairly regularly I will not keep this set on my daily driver, but rather put it on a Thunderbird/Cougar I intend to sell.

...Very comfortable ride on highway and dirt roads of varying speeds...
I found the tire I've been looking for with these. Treadwear is outstanding. Very comfortable ride on highway and dirt roads of varying speeds. Some light humming at 60 mph since new, no longer concerned about mechanical problem such as wheel bearings, these tires hum very lightly at 60-62mph only, and will not deter me from buying them again. Fuel economy excellent. Wet traction as good as could be expected. No cracking or dry rotting on tires I can find. Impressive.

...Treadwear was going the distance... tread was around half after 3 years30k miles...
Avid Ascend LX is a good tire. Treadwear was going the distance. Unfortunately got a nail in one and it couldn't be fixed but I would say tread was around half after 3 years 30k miles. Fairly quiet and smooth. It has rimguard.
Keeping in mind it's a standard touring tire, my Camry hybrid would tend to spin the wheels from a stop. A little skid when taking a sudden turn. Otherwise dependable in wet weather in a straight line. Handled short freeze events in Texas. Never got to try them in snow. Improved gas mileage by 1 mpg over the OE Bridgestone Turansa EL400.

Breaking Down Tire Performance Categories - 2024 Special Test With Winter Update(26:05)
We understand that tire performance categories can be confusing. You want an all-season tire, but there are several all-season categories; how do you know which one is right for you? You want a summer tire, but again, which summer category? In this special demonstration, we took six all-season tires from three all-season categories and three summer tires from two summer categories to lay it out for you. Category-leading tires from the Standard Touring All-Season, Grand Touring All-Season, Ultra High Performance All-Season, Max Performance Summer, and Extreme Performance Summer categories are tested so you can see exactly what each "step up" gets you as a driver and what trade-offs were made along the way.
Testing Standard Touring All-Season Tires 2021: Yokohama AVID Ascend LX(1:58)
The Yokohama AVID Ascend LX hopes to harmonize the delicate balance between durability, traction and comfort. We test it against several of the benchmarks of the Standard Touring All-Season tire category to see which tire comes out on top.
