Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS

The Potenza RE-71RS is Bridgestone's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for sports cars, performance sedans and enthusiast drivers who participate in high-performance driving events, track days and endurance-style competition. The Potenza RE-71RS is designed to deliver massive levels of grip and precise handling on the street and maintain that performance at race-pace on the track. Like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, the Potenza RE-71RS is not intended to be serviced, stored or driven in near-and-below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The highly asymmetric pattern is molded from a tread compound that utilizes race-developed, high-grip polymers engineered to maximize dry grip. An optimized footprint helps manage contact pressure under heavy cornering loads for more uniform distribution. This optimization allows the tire to exploit every bit of surface contact available while helping prevent areas of acute heat generation, encouraging even wear in competition environments. The solid circumferential ribs are designed to help ensure quick and precise steering response at the limit in dynamic cornering events. The expansive outboard tread element features low-angle grooves for enhanced lateral stiffness, promoting consistent and predictable cornering traction. Strategically placed, circumferential grooves are beveled to help further support the inboard ribs under intense cornering while allowing sufficient area for hydroplaning resistance.

The internal construction of the Potenza RE71-RS consists of a robust, two-ply polyester casing tuned to increase feedback and steering response. Twin steel belts provide a lightweight and durable base for the tread, and a nylon reinforcement ply is added for high-speed capability.

Note: Potenza RE-71RS tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS Reviews

Enthusiasts celebrate the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS for its exceptional dry traction, delivering razor-sharp steering response, relentless grip, and confident cornering that dominates autocross, track days, and HPDE events. Drivers praise its predictable limits and rapid warm-up, enabling aggressive lap times and podium finishes. Wet performance earns praise for decent grip on damp surfaces, though hydroplaning risks rise in standing water. Treadwear impresses for a 200TW tire, with many reporting consistent performance through multiple heat cycles and seasons, though heavy track use accelerates wear. A top pick for competitive drivers prioritizing outright speed and precision over longevity.

...I've driven them in the rain both new and at end of life. They are outstanding and surprisingly excellent in the wet as long as there is some tread left to move water out from under the contact patch...

I used these for autocross and track days. If the event was close enough to home I'd leave them on and drive them to and from the event. I've driven them in the rain both new and at end of life. My car is 4200lbs with me in it and I had a 245 square set up on 8.5" wheels. The RS's were and still are a tire that has and can win a National level event. They are outstanding and surprisingly excellent in the wet as long as there is some tread left to move water out from under the contact patch. For me they lasted a season plus a few events the next. That is what I expected so I am very happy with the tire. I am looking forward to the new RZ's but wish the prices would come down a bit. So for now I'm on a used set of RS's this time 255 square. Overall grip is up mid corner but all the laser sharpness of the 245's is gone. It's easier for me to be faster on the 255's so that's where I'll got with my next set. Would I recommend the RS's...of course!

...With the new setup of the car, traction in wet as well as dry conditions was outstanding...

Ran the entire 2025 season of Snake River Region, SCCA, in XA class. With the new setup of the car, the traction in wet as well as dry conditions was outstanding. It warms up quickly and stays for a lot of runs. Still some life left for anything we may get in 2026. '

...I've driven them while it was raining and they grip extremely well under heavy rain on the freeways!...

The Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS tires have been my most favorite tires for autocross and spirited canyon driving. I just found out that there's a new variant in the 200tw arena (RE-71RZ?), so I'm eager to check those out next! They have been the most savage for autocross and they hold for the duration of all the events I have attended and with the AWD Focus RS, I can trust these tires to keep me planted around corners, even after a few torture sessions. I've driven them while it was raining and they grip extremely well under heavy rain on the freeways! I loved the RE-71R tires and these are definitely an upgrade! Your incredibly fast shipping is really awesom,e enabling me to focus on getting my car ready for events and not waiting for tires to arrive! Thank you!

...Dry grip is excellent, although when driving between garages or events, pebbles/gravel get picked up and flung about very easily - nothing out of the norm for summer performance tires.

Minimal negative camber and mostly spirited drives (1-3hr duration, average 80mile trips) to and from events out of state or curvy backroads - no more than 5000mi a year.
Had this set for 2 years now, only driven in 40+ degree weather, mostly during the summer. They get bagged and left in a climate-controlled space otherwise.

Dry grip is excellent, although when driving between garages or events, pebbles/gravel get picked up and flung about very easily - nothing out of the norm for summer performance tires.
Below 50 F and wet conditions (more than damp), rear end gets a little squirrely but there is no complete loss of grip (more apparent as tread wears down).
Either case, very predictable at limit.

Overall better grip and less wear than the Falken RT660 (especially in the wet) as a comparison.
Wear pattern is extremely even, except at shoulders where they are slightly worn but can probably blame that on the relatively tame setup.

Little to no road noise and a relatively good ride quality.

...As for tread wear I have about 50 or 60 autocross runs and a track day on them and they're low-ish on tread but still very usable, not done yet...

If you’re looking at this tire you probably already know what it is, in which case just buy it.

There’s a reason it’s the tire everyone runs on their Miatas in autocross SCCA CS class. It truly is the ultimate 200TW autocross tire. Grip levels are insane. Also holds up well on track although got a little greasy when very hot.

It’s loud, and kind of a harsh ride, but you knew that going in. Honestly for a 200TW tire it’s great in those categories too just set your expectations accordingly, it’s not exactly luxurious.

As for tread wear I have about 50 or 60 autocross runs and a track day on them and they’re low-ish on tread but still very usable, not done yet.

All in all I won’t be buying anything else.

...With a -2 degree camber setup, we get predictable good wear on the outside edges. We replace around 40 heat cycles ( 30 track 20-25 minute sessions and about 2 autocross events) with plenty tread to go more, this seems the sweat spot when the tire degrade traction but plenty of tread left to continue a beating.

I do track and autocross with a Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 with 19" wheels ( 9x19 and 19x11). These seem to be our weapon of choice. I did feel last time we got them pre-heat cycled by TireRack, it improved the longevity. The 200TW with decent wear and the $100 lower cost per tire then the other competitors and buy them when Bridgestone offers the $110 rebate and getting a lot of tire for the money. They are always available. The only down side is I wish they had a 305 or 295 for our rear but 285 seems like plenty of tire and traction on the track. With a -2 degree camber setup, we get predictable good wear on the outside edges. We replace around 40 heat cycles (30 track 20-25 minute sessions and about 2 autocross events) with plenty tread to go more, this seems the sweat spot when the tire degrade traction but plenty of tread left to continue a beating.

...My car is very heavy and punishes the front tires as they are narrower than rears, and these tires have held up very well on the track...

Used mostly for light track use (private days at Club Motorsport and schools at NHIS). Tires are very predictable and stable. When they lose grip there is plenty of warning and its very linear, easy to control both oversteer and understeer smoothly. When driving on road they are great (basically noise is a non issue, grip is more than you will ever need), but I don't put a lot of miles on the car so experience is limited as far as wear goes (on street).

Wet grip is good for what these are (only had one track day in rain), absolutely not a tire I would push hard in the rain.

My car is very heavy and punishes the front tires as they are narrower than rears, and these tires have held up very well on the track.
