The X-ICE SNOW SUV is Michelin's Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow winter tire developed for drivers of vans, sport utility vehicles and light-duty pickups looking for confidence in winter's many different road conditions, throughout the life of the tire. Whether it's clear, cold winter roads; deep, heavy snow; or any icy condition in between, the X-ICE SNOW SUV is designed to deliver reassuring wintertime traction and stability.

The X-ICE SNOW SUV callouts

The FleX-Ice™ 2.0 compound of the X-ICE SNOW SUV utilizes inclusion technology, which generates micro-roughness on the tread surface, helping improve grip both in snow and on ice. The compound also contains a high silica content that ensures the tire maintains its flexibility, even in severe climates. This advanced compound is molded into a continuous V-Shape, directional tread pattern with increased groove widths compared to its predecessor, engineered to improve hydroplaning and slush performance, as well as increase the snow-to-snow traction needed for loose conditions. The X-ICE SNOW SUV's tread elements contain two types of full-depth sipes with complementary traction effects. Notched sipes provide numerous biting edges that help enhance traction in adverse conditions, along with variable thickness sipes that further aid traction while supporting the tread elements to maintain an efficient contact patch for control on packed snow and clear roads.

X-ICE SNOW SUV Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow tires meet the industry's severe snow service requirements and are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

Install Michelin X-ICE SNOW SUV tires in sets of four only.

Due to the traction capabilities of X-ICE SNOW SUV tires, Michelin recommends using them only in sets of four to provide the best handling characteristics and tire performance.

...So confident in the snow, deep snow! While it may not be regarded as a true "performance" snow tire, The Michelin X-ice Snow does provide performance in quality, confidence, grip, fuel economy, hydroplaning resistance, and comfort!...

I've bought the wrong tire.

Let me explain. This truly is a great snow tire. A recent trip I took to the North Shore of Minnesota, while cold, it was also very dry. Cruising between 70-80 MPH this tire feels like it wants to stay in it's own track. Also cruising while at highway speeds the steering feels a bit dull and unresponsive in the dry. However, also incredibly quiet and well balanced! These tires balance out very well and I have no reason to doubt they will outlast the competition as Michelin claims.

Then came the snow! Fresh snow! What a difference this tire is from the old X-ice 3! So confident in the snow, deep snow! While it may not be regarded as a true "performance" snow tire, The Michelin X-ice Snow does provide performance in quality, confidence, grip, fuel economy, hydroplaning resistance, and comfort! I have yet to test this tire on ice, though I'm confident it'll perform very well.

While I would definitely recommend this tire to the majority of people, if you are looking for a more dedicated dry performance V-rated snow tire, there are other options. However those other "performance tires" will not offer everything the Michelin X-ice Snow has to offer.

I would certainly by these tires again but next time, they'll go on my wifes car. I would prefer the Michelin Pilot Alpin for my style of driving. Just wish it was offered in a 245/45/R18.

The first time I drove them, they were pushed hard on a fairly tight S-curve on-ramp in weather a bit warmer than snow tires usually like, but they provided grip in spades. Shortly after, I drove these tires in a series of snow storms in conditions ranging from a light dusting on local roads to a few inches of snow built up on an interstate, and they once again provided absolute confidence in their capability. The car was never the least bit unsettled or out of control regardless of how hard it was driven, even at near highway speeds through inches of snow. 10/10

The Michelin X-Ice’s have unbelievable grip in snow. The steering response and braking in 2” of snow is similar to an all season in the wet. They have worked well on the highway and in the wet, but were clearly designed for snow grip and only snow grip. If you are buying them for fun in the snow, they almost have too much grip for intentional sliding. I will be purchasing these again in the future for my wife’s car.

...I have been pleasantly surprised by their dry pavement performance - thought they would be noisier and not handle so well but I would say they are just barely louder and not quite as good-handling as my summer tires which I really like (Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on 17" wheels versus 15" for the X-Ice) but noise is not a problem and except for just a bit of understeer I would call the handling really good...

Have only around 1k miles on them so far and so haven't driven them in all conditions. First test on them was a trip to Crater Lake (elevation 6,400 ft) after it snowed several days. Traction on packed/light powder snow is excellent and they track really well - you kind of expect to wander around a bit on snow but not the case. They don't perform so well in slush but I think unless you have tires with very deep tread and a lot of space between tread blocks, most tires probably don't. I have been pleasantly surprised by their dry pavement performance - thought they would be noisier and not handle so well but I would say they are just barely louder and not quite as good-handling as my summer tires which I really like (Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on 17" wheels versus 15" for the X-Ice) but noise is not a problem and except for just a bit of understeer I would call the handling really good. Overall, I feel really good about the purchase and about heading out in winter weather and that they're still quiet, ride nice, and handle when the pavement is dry.

...If you want a balance of good dry handling and wet handling, efficiency/range, tire life, and safe winter traction, then this tire is good... decently well in dry weather...

This is my second purchase in the X-Ice product line. I had a set of X-Ice I3 on my Sonata. It's hard to discern the difference between that, and these X-Ice Snow tires. Apparently the new ones are slightly more efficient.

Traction when starting from a stop in snow is simply not good enough. There is not enough initial bite. My previous Nokian WR series tires had much better initial traction when starting out. Once you get going, traction in snow and slush is good. Braking in snow is safe overall. I knew what to expect, because of my previous set of X-Ice I3 that behaved the same way.

If you can get past that important negative, then you will be rewarded with a winter-ish tire that handles very well in rain, decently well in dry weather, and has acceptable tire life. I don't recall ever hydroplaning on the X-ice tires in my previous vehicle or my current one.
They are not a quiet tire, but I found them no louder than the OEM self sealing tires that came with the Bolt.

Mileage/battery range wise, I definitely took a hit from the OEM tire, but it's difficult to tell because the car was heating the battery and the passenger cabin. I saw a 40% drop in range in winter, and the efficiency went from ~4.0mpkwh down to ~2.5.

Overall, this is a winter tire for people who have "all season" tires that are unsafe in winter weather, but who will only see a handful of snow storms. If you want a balance of good dry and wet handling, efficiency/range, tire life, and safe winter traction, then this tire is good. If you live in Buffalo or on the side of a Colorado ski slope, this is absolutely not the winter tire for you.

Could not be better! Bought them with MSW 55 wheels and switch them out with all-season tires/wheels each December and March. Excellent snow performance (even when the undershield is touching the snow). Outstanding ice performance. They are also used for long freeway trips with mountain passes, for which they are quiet and very comfortable. Spirited driving is avoided so as not to wear them too fast.
