The Ecopia EP422 is one of Bridgestone's ecologically oriented Grand Touring All-Season tires developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans and small crossover vehicles looking to combine year-round traction, handling and comfort with reduced environmental impact. Ecopia EP422 tires are designed to enhance vehicle fuel economy by reducing tire rolling resistance along with the vehicle's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions while delivering year-round, all-season traction, even in light snow.
The Ecopia EP422 uses an all-season tread compound featuring Bridgestone's unique NanoPro-Tech (Nanostructure-Oriented Properties Control Technology) to reduce rolling resistance and energy loss while maintaining dry, wet and wintertime traction.
This compound is molded into a symmetric tread design that combines notched shoulders and intermediate ribs with independent center blocks for dry road tracking and traction. Four circumferential grooves are designed to help water flow from under the footprint to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet traction while notches and sipes increase the edges that bite into light snow. The tire sidewalls feature Bridgestone's Fuel Saver compound to further increase efficiency.
The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon on top of a polyester casing to blend ride comfort and durability.
*Specific sizes featuring Ecopia technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's SPEC tab.

Eco-Focused All-Season Tires: Do They Deliver on the Promise?(03:22)
Tires with an emphasis on low rolling resistance for fuel efficiency are becoming available in sizes to fit a wide variety of mainstream vehicles. One of the most recent is Bridgestone's Ecopia EP422 that employs technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and the tire's impact on the environment. But does it perform on the road, too?
Owners report excellent comfort with a smooth, quiet ride (8-10 scores) and strong dry traction offering confident handling. Treadwear receives praise for longevity in typical all-season use, though some note variability. Wet performance is generally reliable with good hydroplaning resistance (7-9 range), while winter traction shows limitations-scores dip to 3-5 in snow/ice, suggesting cautious use in harsh conditions. Dry cornering stability and responsiveness stand out as key strengths, aligning well with grand touring expectations. While most appreciate its year-round capability, winter-focused drivers may find traction lacking compared to other seasons.

...In heavy storms this past weekend the tires were solid, no hydroplaning, excellent grip with a fast stop, and no slipping on fast, wet starts...
I replaced a set of Bridgestone Turanza w/Serenity with 35k miles which may have had a bad belt. I bought the Ecopia for the high treadwear rating and 60k warranty. After 6 weeks in dry & wet driving these tires are excellent. Handling is super, quiet, & smooth. In heavy storms this past weekend the tires were solid, no hydroplaning, excellent grip with a fast stop, and no slipping on fast , wet starts. I could not be more pleased with these tires.

...Better traction, especially in wet conditions, and very quiet.
Purchased the car at 120,000... now has 140,000. Have had the EP422s on for the last 5,000 miles. Much improved over the Integrity tires that came with the car. Better traction, especially in wet conditions, and very quiet.
Now when I rated this tire as a 8 in wet traction... I'm taking into consideration that this is relatively small tire, and comparing it to other tires I have driven of a similar size. In my case I'm not driving a sports car so I don't expect it to handle like a sports car.
Also (very important) we experienced no change in fuel mileage. This was a big concern for us. We drive a mix of highway / country roads for the daily transit and consistently get 43 - 45 MPG. (before and after the EP422s)
I considered other tires that would have had more traction, but I was very concerned about losing MPG... I felt we should get a LRR tire. I think we made the right choice, and we are very happy with the purchase.
Summary: Would recommend to other Prius owners and would purchase again.

...I've driven in heavy rain, both city and highway, and these tires are terrific... No hydroplaning at all!...
I wrote the first review at 1500 miles. I now have 5000 miles and had the tires rotated and alignment checked today. I've driven in heavy rain, both city and highway, and these tires are terrific. Quiet, great ride and excellent handling. No hydroplaning at all! Additional mileage is hard to tell as temperatures and road conditions affect MPG. I am very impressed and recently put a set of the Ecopia 422's on my son's 2009 Scion XB. I am curious to see the performance in snow, and will write another review in January.

Customers overwhelmingly rate the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422's dry traction as excellent, with most scores in the 9-10 range. High marks highlight responsive handling and reliable grip, perfectly suited for Grand Touring All-Season performance.

...The Ecopias have great performance on dry and wet pavement and feel more like a performance summer tire. The sidewalls are extremely stiff so steering responsiveness and cornering stability is guaranteed...
I autocross (but not in this car) so I am on the extreme end of spirited driving.
The Ecopias have great performance on dry and wet pavement and feel more like a performance summer tire. The sidewalls are extremely stiff so steering responsiveness and cornering stability is guaranteed. The con to the stiff sidewalls is that the tires are pretty noisy and can be bumpy if you drive a lot on poor roads. It iced over for a day last year and the tires did a little less than OK. The Ecopias had about 40% tread left when they were used in the icy conditions.
Traction in wet and dry conditions have stayed fairly constant throughout the tires life. I have about 1/16" to the wear bars now and the tires are just now starting to hydroplane in moderately wet conditions. These are the most consistent tires I have ever owned.
I was hoping to get 40,000 miles out of the tires, but I will be lucky to get 35,000 miles. A normal driver will be able to get much more mileage, but I think it would be tough to get the rated mileage out of them.
The tires feel the best with 35-37 psi cold and did have a 1.5 mpg average increase over my last set of tires (Dunlop Direzza Star Specs). These tires have pleasantly surprised me.

I have 103,000 miles on my 2008 Prius. This is the third set of tires and by far the best. The initial OEM tires needed to be replaced at 28 K. The next set were extremely loud and dropped my mpg about 15 %. Switched to the Bridgestone's and have loved them since. Great dry traction and wet. I don't drive my Prius in the snow so no experience there. Getting ready to buy a new set.

Customers praise the Ecopia EP422's comfort, with most scoring ride quality and noise levels 9-10. A few note minor road noise, but satisfaction remains high for all-season touring's smooth, refined experience.

After about 1000 miles, these tires have definitely exceeded expectations, they are much, much quieter and ride comfort has increased a good amount compared to the OEM tires on my Accord (Dunlop SP 7000)... but the ride comfort/noise level is what made these tires worth it.
After about 1000 miles, these tires have definitely exceeded expectations, they are much, much quieter and ride comfort has increased a good amount compared to the OEM tires on my Accord (Dunlop SP 7000). They even performed better on corners and felt more responsive compared to the Dunlop OEMs, but still won't blow you away. Gas mileage seems to has increased about 1MPG but the ride comfort/noise level is what made these tires worth it.

...While the Michelin tires were a very good tire, this is a much quieter tire with much better ride...
I drive 950 miles a week to and from work mostly on 2 lane roads. Purchased this tire to replace Michelin Weatherhandler from Sears. While the Michelin tires were a very good tire, this is a much quieter tire with much better ride. Traction was good in snow. Handling was about a half step below the Michelins. To be fair, I should note that I went from a 185/15 tire to a 195/15 tire (a taller sidewall) to correct a 3 mph error that the Prius speedometer reflected. (Speedometer would read 60 when the actual speed was 57.) As the tire was taller, I compensated by increasing the air pressure by 5 lbs over the normal pressure. There was no loss in fuel mileage with this setup over the Michelins. I would not hesitate to buy these tires again.

I have 65K miles on these tires and they will easily outlast the 70K mile warranty. They get great gas mileage, last along time and do well on traction. They aren't high performance sport tires so if you want cornering speed try a performance tire. If you want a tire that performs very well, last a long time and get good gas mileage these please consider these tires.

Like many Leaf owners have already expressed here, I'm disappointed with the wear of the Ecopia tire, I replaced them at 30k miles, but I ran them with bald tread on the outside edges for maybe 5k miles already trying to milk a few more miles out of them. I do admit that I did not stay with Nissan's 36psi recommendation and kept them at 40-44psi in an attempt to extend the vehicle range, but I would not expect that to cause wear on the outside edges? And they were not rotated every 5k miles it was probably more like 7-8k miles, so maybe that's the main cause of premature wear I don't know? From other reviewers I've read here, it seems that there are people who love this tires and those who are disappointed and hate them, so maybe the vehicle they are mounted on makes a huge difference or possible the owner and how they take care of the tires are the bigger factor, I just don't know or understand it? I do know that I don't feel like these tires are right for most Leaf owners with average driving habits like myself, as the reviews here on tirerack.com tend to be skewed more toward the negative side for Leaf owners. Anyway, I replaced the Ecopias with Pirelli P-7 plus tires yesterday and have noticed greatly improved handling in dry weather, it drives like a different car now. I have less than 50 miles on the new tires and they seem to require more energy to make the car move and seem to have had an impact on range, but I haven't tracked specific numbers to know how much the range is impacted yet and am hoping that they will roll a little easier after they break-in a little. Anyway I knew I didn't want more Ecopia tires based on how quickly I wore out the original tires, but others seem to have had better experiences with them than I did, and I'm not sure why?

...I also put these tires on a 2009 Sion xB, and the wear on both cars has been excellent. I have the tires rotated and alignment checked every oil change...
This is my third review of these tires. As with the previous reviews, I would give these tires a 9.5/10 on all counts. Quiet, smooth, brakes well on dry and wet surfaces, cornering good given the size and suspension of the car. Unfortunately, hardly any snow this winter, but what we had, the tires were great. I also put these tires on a 2009 Sion xB, and the wear on both cars has been excellent. I have the tires rotated and alignment checked every oil change. I highly recommend the Ecopia tires.

Winter traction disappoints with numerous scores between 0-5. Customers cite slippery conditions, getting stuck, and lack of snow traction, making it unreliable in winter despite being all-season.

I have a real love / hate relationship with these tires. I love the handling and responsiveness in most conditions. Very quietI think if I lived in the south I would rate these Ecopias a "10" across the board. However I really dislike these tires during snow and winter conditions. I am an experienced driver in winter conditions, the Subaru is AWD and still I feel the car sliding and loosing grip often in snowy. I am not sure if its the tread pattern, rubber compound or design. Tread life seems very good so I have no need to replace them.

...They break traction on wet roads when pushed only slightly. I have absolutly no confidence in them...
The tires were O.E. on my new 2016 VW Golf Sportwagon. When I purchased the car I immediately got larger wheels and summer performance tires, purchased from Tire Rack, which I installed immediately . I swapped them back to the O.E. all-season Bridgestones in early Nov. with the arrival of colder weather. What a huge change for the worse! After driving about 1,000 for a month my patience wore out. They break traction on wet roads when pushed only slightly. I have absolutly no confidence in them. The steering response is poor. They are noisy. I purchased a set of Pirelli winter tires and wheels and the car feels like it handles well again. I know that it seems somewhat unfair to compare them to performance tires, but the Bridgestones were just terrible.
