The ContiProContact SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) is Continental's Grand Touring All-Season run-flat tire designed to provide temporary extended mobility in case of complete air loss due to a puncture. The ContiProContact SSR is designed to blend good looks, low noise and the assurance of extended mobility along with the versatility of all-season traction, even in light snow.

ContiProContact SSR tires permit drivers to remain mobile in the event of a flat tire by allowing them to reach their destination or tire service facility without having to replace a flat tire with the spare tire. The ContiProContact SSR's reinforced sidewall enables the car to continue on its way at a maximum speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) for up to 50 miles (80 km), depending on road conditions and vehicle weight.

The ContiProContact SSR features an all-season tread compound molded into a symmetric, notched-rib tread design that provides continuous tread contact with the road to enhance steering response and handling while its wide circumferential grooves promote hydroplaning resistance and wet traction. Continental's PROactive Edge Technology places at least 800 arched edges in each ContiProContact SSR tire's tread design to bring more active edges into the contact patch to promote stormy-weather traction while allowing the pattern elements to transfer smoothly from edge to edge to minimize on-road noise.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to stabilize the tread area promoting uniformity and high-speed durability along with reinforced self-supporting sidewalls that prevent the inside of the tire from getting pinched between the road and the rim in the event of a loss of inflation.

Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. Because MOExtended or MOE tires do not have the same speed and distance endurance of conventional run-flat tires, they should not be substituted in any situation where a conventional run-flat tire is required. To confirm what your vehicle needs, check our Original Equipment tire listing for your year, make and model or see your vehicle owner's manual.

Toyo Proxes RR Reviews

Customers say the Toyo Proxes RR delivers excellent dry traction with predictable grip and responsive handling, making it a top choice for track days, autocross, and HPDE events. While some report decent wet performance in light rain, standing water significantly reduces traction. The tire's treadwear stands out, with many users achieving 20-30 heat cycles and multiple track weekends before noticeable drop-off. Though slightly less grippy than higher-end race tires, its durability and consistent performance across sessions make it a cost-effective option for drivers prioritizing longevity over peak lap times.

My V is 650whp and weighs 3800#. I used these tires at COTA and ran (8) 30 min sessions. The tires had great grip on acceleration along with holding grip in the corners. As with most slicks they don’t talk much but the RR did give some audible feedback when approaching the limit. They seemed to like 40psi HOT for my setup with minimal rollover on the front tires at -3.0 camber, next time I’ll try -3.2. I can probably get 2 more full track days out of these. If your car is lighter or less powerful I would assume even more out of them. Highly recommend for the price point!!!

Amazing Grip. These tires are perfect for track events, drag racing, autocross and basically driving at the very edge of performance. They did a massive improvement on my 2016 Infiniti Q50S Red Sport RWD. If you are looking for an affordable racing slick tire this is it.

I don't know how a 40 treadwear tire can last this long but nothing else comes close regarding grip and longevity.

49 reviews mention "Wet Traction"

  • 6 positive
  • 43 negative

Users report mediocre wet traction, noting a tendency to hydroplane in standing water and slippery handling during rain. While acceptable in dry track conditions, wet performance draws criticism for being unpredictable, requiring cautious driving to maintain control. Some describe rapid loss of grip in wet scenarios, highlighting poor wet-weather capability for this track-focused tire.

SCCA ITS race car. Usually have run Hoosiers, tried a set of Toyo for practice days (to save a few $$), ended up running them in one race in wet / dry conditions.
Car feel. is good, not much different to Hoosiers, other than the somewhat decreased ultimate grip. About 1.5 seconds /lap slower (estimate ).
Tires held up well during a run, not giving up much in the late laps.
Wear: seems at least as durable as Hoosier .

Conclusion: they work, are fun to drive, cost less, but (as expected )do not have the grip/speed of Hoosier.

..."For the Toyo Proxes RR, I could not find any consecutive sentences specifically discussing wet traction performance. The reviews focus on track use, tire cracking issues, and mounting requirements, but do not mention wet weather performance or grip in wet conditions." Note: Since there are no specific phrases related to wet traction performance in this text, nothing should be bolded according to the given criteria...

I use these tires only for HDPE days, I have tried BFG R1, Hoosiers and Hankook C51 track tires before, and thought I would try the Toyos. I have Toyo 888s on my Factory Five Cobra that I use for street and track and have been very satisfied with the grip and wear so figured the RR will be a chip off the old shoulder.

Drive them at Laguna Seca in the "D" group with HOD, race prepped cars, mine isn't exactly race prepped, but has Perf Friction Brakes, race suspension, chipped engine with headers and can run 1:43 at Laguna which lets it keep up with some of the older race cars that show up at these events. I go in the D group because the drivers are safer and better and you can pass anywhere on the track, don't have to be the fastest, just safe.

Finished the day, swapping to my street wheels and tires for the drive home and notice two of the tires have a crack half way across the tread. HUH....wierd. Call Tire Rack the next day and they ask if I mounted them properly, I said What?? In the blue files in the website there is an installation guide I hadn't looked at. You have to have the DOT label facing a certain way on the front and rear, and it depends on whether you car is front wheel drive, rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. Crap...now you can't rotate the tires for even wear, all you can do is have them flipped on the rims each time you want to move them..double crap.

Tire Rack was good enough to fight Toyo for a warranty claim, one tire was mounted correctly, the other was not. The other two tires were mounted correctly. So they shipped two new ones, but I had to pay shipping and heat cycling on the new tires....arrrgghhh.

Second Track Day - Inspect as installing street tires for ride home and 2 more are cracking....one of the new ones which is mounted correctly and one of the old ones. Crap again. The M3 may be too heavy for this tire if you drive hard and have performance brakes. Run Away!!!
