The AVID Ascend GT is Yokohama's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for drivers of sedans, coupes, crossovers and minivans who want a refined ride and noise comfort combined with long life and confident all-season traction. The AVID Ascend GT is designed to deliver grip in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even light snow.
Yokohama BluEarth branding is used to identify an ecologically friendly series of tires that are designed to deliver environmentally, human and socially friendly solutions for drivers and their vehicles. AVID Ascend GT tires branded with the BluEarth symbol are identified on their Sizes and Specs pages.
The asymmetric pattern of the AVID Ascend GT helps optimize grip in all weather conditions, and the tread profile is specifically engineered to create a stable contact patch for improved traction and wear. The tread pitch variation and Outside Adaptive Shoulder Blocks are designed with a focus on noise attenuation for a quiet driving experience. Four deep, circumferential grooves utilize asymmetric widths to aid standing water evacuation through the footprint, while the inside shoulder features open notches to allow water to pass through. Yokohama's TriBLEND Compound Technology all-season compound utilizes a low-Tg polymer and high silica content for grip in inclement weather, and the Triple 3-D Sipes and notched tread blocks create the biting edges needed for light snow traction.
Internally, a polyester casing aids ride comfort and supports two wide, steel belts. A full nylon cover works with the square profile shape to help resist deflection under cornering loads for more controlled, predictable handling in dry and wet conditions while also providing high-speed capability.

...Have been very pleased with the tread wear and grip, even on wet pavement...
Much smoother and softer ride than the OEM run flats. Have been very pleased with the tread wear and grip, even on wet pavement. We haven't had much snow here since I put these on the MINI in February 2016, so, I can't speak to the snow and ice traction.

This review is regarding the YOKOHAMA AVID ENVIGOR ZPS RUN FLAT and comparing them to other run flat tires, this tire is by far the best run flat tire I've experienced. Road noise is a big problem for run flat tires and this tire puts that concern to rest. The ride is smooth and responsive. I would buy these tires again! Wet or Dry this tire performs very well. Just a quick plug for TireRack. The life cycle of purchase to installation was seamless. Not one problem. I did all my research on tirerack regarding this tire and had several to compare to as well as my existing run flat tires (Pirelli -> noisy). I felt the reviews on tirerack has helped me make my decision. I highly recommend YOKOHAMA AVID ENVIGOR ZPS RUN FLAT Tires.

Great set of tires. Went with these because there are zero options for high performance all seasons in my factory size which is 205/60/16. Going to a 225/55/16 keeps the overall size the same but gives more tire options. If you drive in snow I do not recommend these at all. I live in northern AL, so we don't really see snow here. Great dry, Wet traction, treadwear. They are quiet and handle quite good. Wish I could grab another set. I have 35k miles on them, I developed a small alignment issue on the front end, both fronts need to be replaced. The rears probably can last another 20k. In all to get this sort of comfort, traction, and treadwear is truly impressive. I would call it a summer only tire, as 2"+ of snow and dash board is lighting up with abs, traction control lights flashing everywhere and its slide city. That said low temperatures don't really effect these much unlike other summer only tires. Going to try out the Advans A/S in the same size to replace these. I can only hope they are equal or better to these.

Most customers report excellent winter traction with many 9s and 10s in snow and ice, highlighting confident grip. A few note lower ice performance (scores 5-7), but the AVID Ascend GT delivers reliable all-season capability for Grand Touring use.

Love these tires. Much softer compound than the tires they replaced. Cornering and overall handling is much better, car is predictable now and my confidence in the car's performance has been restored. These tires are still grippy in freezing temps. Old tires, which are top rated on this website, only had 5K miles on them but felt like you were skating all over during extreme cold or warm, wet weather. These Yokohama Avid Envigors are the perfect match for my 2004 Mini Cooper S. When the time comes to replace these tires, it will be with the exact same brand/model.

...I did have occasion to use the Yokohamas in light snow, and while better than their predecessors it is not what the tire is made for and it shows...
These replaced what I'm guessing were a replacement set of Bridgestone Potenza run flats that might have been OE on the car. Much of my comparison on this vehicle is based against those tires that I drove for almost 10K miles. This car does not have a spare tire, so I first debated whether or not to replace with run flats. Tire replacement was dictated by the fact that the Bridgestones were nearing replacement when one blew out a side wall hitting a pot hole at speed. Instead of becoming disabled by an irreparable tire, I was able to baby the car 30 miles to home. That convinced me to get a new set of runflats. The choice of the Yokohama's was a combination of reputation, previous experience with the brand, reviews and price. Obviously this car calls for a set of summer performance tires. Personally I was unwilling to pay $200 per tire or more for an estimated 20K miles of tread life. By reputation, reviews and experience with other Yokohama tires I knew their treadwear ratings were superior.
As for riding characteristics, runflats run stiff, transmitting road imperfections. I found these a little better than the Bridgestones. Dry and wet handling is comparable, although I admit while I enjoy how the Miata tracks on the road I don't push it to its limits. I had more snow experience with the Bridgestones that were useless in snow. I did have occasion to use the Yokohamas in light snow, and while better than their predecessors it is not what the tire is made for and it shows.
Going with run flats in this size somewhat limits selection, so considering all criteria I am happy enough that I would consider these again. Just for context, I also drive a compact sedan with General Altimax R43s and a small pickup with Khumo Krugens.

...Light snow traction with barely any tread left was phenomenal, much better than my new set of General G Max UHPA...
I wrote a review for these tires a year ago but it looks like it never made it. Anyway, I loved these tires. I put 40K on them and still had about 3/10 tread left. I replaced them because they began to dry rot, I understand the common cause of dry rot is the sun and I am not going to complain about them because of the dry rot. Overall they are awesome tires. Light snow traction with barely any tread left was phenomenal, much better than my new set of General G Max UHPA. They handle standing water much better than my Generals also and refused to hydro plane. Overall driving performance is really good with these tires. I went with the G max because they have a very similar tread patter and cost less. I felt compelled to re-write my review for the Yokos because I feel they are a great product and I would consider buying them for my next set. I am fairly please with the new G max tires and just got a set for my wife (she doesn't beat on her car like I do and they were more cost effective). Yokohama made a great tire and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an all season. I am considering a summer tire or my next set on my car mainly because I rarely drive in the snow and the whole point of these types of tires is for increased snow traction. As the Yokos wore down they were quite noisy but I assume that is to be expected of any tire with low tread. I cant complain because I got 40k out of them and probably could have stretched it to 50 if I wasn't concerned about the dry rot. My stockers barely got 30k and were junk!

...They ride significantly better than the original runflats and still have great wet/dry performance. We regularly participate in local MINI club driving events and these perform well when the crowd starts to get spirited.
These were to replace my OEM runflat tires. They ride significantly better than the original runflats and still have great wet/dry performance. We regularly participate in local MINI club driving events and these perform well when the crowd starts to get spirited. Road noise also seems to be less than the OEMs. Obviously - we've had no flats so can't speak about how useful that is. I duo know it gives us a little extra peace of mind knowing we've got 50 miles to get them fixed in our spareness car.
