¿Qué es un rin de aleación (alloy)?

Metales de aleación proporcionan una fortaleza superior y reducen el peso dramáticamente, al compararlos con metales ferrosos como acero, por eso, se convierten en un material ideal para fabricar rines de alto rendimiento. Es difícil imaginar un auto de carrera o de alto rendimiento para carreteras que no aproveche los beneficios de los rines de aleación.

La aleación utilizada en los mejores rines contemporáneos para carretera es una mezcla de aluminio con otros elementos. El termino "rines mag" se utiliza algunas veces incorrectamente para describir rines de aleación. Magnesio es considerado generalmente inapropiado para fabricar rines de aleación utilizados en la carretera debido a su naturaleza frágil y susceptibilidad a la corrosión. (Su inflamabilidad tampoco ayuda).
