The Discoverer Rugged Trek is Cooper's Rugged All-Terrain tire built for the drivers of pickup trucks, crossovers and full-size SUVs looking for a tire with a capable off-road appearance and performance which also maintains a smooth, comfortable ride on streets and highways. By carefully combining powerful off-road features with on-road design attributes, the Discoverer Rugged Trek is engineered as an aggressively stylized all-terrain tire with a performance emphasis on dry, wet and wintry conditions, including light snow.

Cooper's Discoverer Rugged Trek

The Discoverer Rugged Trek utilizes a durable all-season tread compound molded into a bold, symmetric tread pattern designed to wear evenly with longer tread life than many traditional off-road centric tires. Cooper's Stable Trac Technology built into the inboard tread blocks help provide clear road stability and control with omni-directional, micro gauge siping engineered to enhance grip on pavement and rough surfaces. Whisper Grooves molded between the center and outboard tread elements help dampen airborne noise from the pattern for increased on-road comfort. The deep, high-void tread pattern helps increase hydroplaning resistance while outer block sipes enhance slippery road grip and control. Aggressive Stone Blockades built into the edges of the tread grooves expel lodged rocks to protect against damaging stone drilling. Earth Diggers molded into each shoulder help propel through loose surfaces for traction in difficult all-terrain environments and snow.

The internal construction of the Discoverer Rugged Trek features a robust two-ply casing supporting twin high strength steel belts which focuses on blending durability with comfort. A single-ply nylon reinforcement is also added for high speed control and stability.

Select Discoverer Rugged Trek tires are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol to identify they meet the industry's severe snow service standards and if so, will be noted in the tire's Details & Pricing section. The absence of the "Severe Snow Service Rated" text indicates that size is not 3PMSF-branded.

Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek tires allow drivers to personalize their vehicles by offering dual sidewall designs on every tire. One side features a "Knife-Edge" styling with straighter lined shoulder elements, while the other side's "Mountain Pass" design includes jagged elements reminiscent of rugged mountain peaks. All tires feature both designs, allowing drivers to choose their look based on which is mounted outward on the wheel.

...Zero issues with rain traction even during heavy downpours. Went through wet mud with ease.

Tires are still performing as when they were new. Treadwear is even across the tire. Road noise is noticeable but very tolerable given their aggressive tread design. Zero issues with rain traction even during heavy downpours. Went through wet mud with ease.

...They feel very controlled in corners on both on wet and on dry surfaces...

I have been impressed with these tires so far. Its only been a month with them, but they have outperformed the goodyears that came on the truck. I have been on dirt and gravel roads and encountered no problems. The mud that I drove in was only 6 inches deep. The tires never slipped at all. I have not experienced winter driving with these tires yet. That should be here soon enough. The tire noise that I have had is about the same as the stock tires. It is there but not as loud as others have mentioned. On the road the tires have felt good with no wander or chatter. They do transmit some felt vibrations on rough roads, but then all my previous tires have done that. They feel very controlled in corners on both wet and dry surfaces. The flat spots that have occurred from parking overnight have gone away within a few miles of driving. I am still experimenting with the air pressure. The stock pressure for this size is 30 psi cold. I found that 31 or 32 works better in hot weather. I am sure I will do 32 during the winter. No loss of pressure at all. No measurable change in gas mileage from OEM tires. Lots of compliments about how they look on the truck. These are tires that should have come on the truck from the factory or should have been offered as part of the off road package. I will report back after the snow flies to comment about handling in those conditions. If you are on the fence about getting these, just do it. You will not be sorry.

...These tires are amazing in the snow and in the mud...

This set of tires have been amazing. I was a little concerned with road noise based on the aggressive tread, but it’s little too none vs the stock tires these replaced. These tires are amazing in the snow and mud. Would definitely purchase again.

...Good traction in deeper snow, as expected or better on 1/4" and slushy roads...

I wanted to love these tires...have had mixed luck with Cooper in the past.

2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2

I have had these tires for about 10k miles during which time I have rotated them three times through Discount Tire. Prior to these tires, I had Duratracs and have run several different tires (Mastercraft MXT/CXT, BFG, Cooper, Mickey Thompsons, etc. in both All Terrain and Mud Terrain setup). These tires are as loud as a worn set of Cooper STT tires. I have had my front end checked to ensure it wasn't the truck and the guys at Discount were surprised at the cupping that is taking place based on the frequent rotating. I am running them at 35 psi as it's an XL Tire and not a E-Rated Tire.

For the cost, they are a disappointment. I would recommend staying with Goodyear or BFG as they tend to last quite a bit longer before problems start.

PROS:
- Look great, aggressive tread pattern
- Good traction in deeper snow, as expected or better on 1/4" and slushy roads

CONS:
- With 10k miles, they have been rotated three times and are cupping
- The noise level went from a 4 when new to a 10+ with 10k miles on them

Only 1000 miles in but very happy with this purchase. I had new Grabber AT II on the vehicle when I purchased it. They did fine, but I didnt really know how much it was lacking until I had these installed. Nice cross of an A/T & M/T tire. Very smooth ride. Took the vehicle on a 600 mile round trip with the family and couldnt be happier with how they performed on highway, city, gravel, and beach sand. Very limited off road use in the first 1000 miles, but it handled what I threw at it, and there will be few instances where I’ll ask too much more of it than I did so far. Bought these with the $100 instant rebate, so installation was basically free. Will buy again, would recommend

Have only put 1000 miles on the tires since installed. The tire perform well on dry pavement, not much noise at all considering the aggressive tread. Hydroplaning resistance is excellent, one of the main reasons I replaced my tires. Wet traction is good. Traction on packed dirt roads is good.

...These tires have been excellent on wet surfaces with no slip and they grip the road nicely on turns and curves... On the highway between NY and NC they have respond well at high speeds...

Very happy with these tires so far. I have them on a Ram 1500 quad cab and drive primarily on highway between NY and NC. I Also drive in deep snow conditions in New York during winter. These tires have been excellent on wet surfaces with no slip and they grip the road nicely on turns and curves. In 4 wheel drive for snow and ice I would rate them much better than the OEM tires that came with the truck. On the highway between NY and NC they have respond well at high speeds and the noise is not a factor.

...quiet tires. Better than the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs that I had on the truck...

So far I will say these are quiet tires. Better than the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs that I had on the truck. Only had about 35,000 miles on them and they were noisy on the road. I should have know not to purchase them again, but I did anyway. So I purchased the Coopers. So far I made the right choice. I only have 600 miles on them and have not experienced driving in the rain, snow, or on ice. Will update after this coming winter.

...The tread wear has been very impressive.

Tires have been great, from many miles on dirt/mud roads that do not get any care to hauling my 5th wheel camper many miles on highway and over mountain roads. The road noise is nothing that I would consider to be loud or annoying. In snow they are great, ice can make them a little less stable, but still an amazing tire on a heavy truck. The tread wear has been very impressive.

Love these tires, just hit a little over 50k on them, They are worn and need to be replaced. Was a little disappointed they did not make it to 60k. Other then that the traction of these tires is amazing. Absolutely no hydroplaning, driven up hill in the snow with no slip at all. Only downside of them is a slight decrease in gas mileage but not enough to deter from a great tire.
