Tire Rack Test Results Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar

Tire tested:

Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar (On-Road All-Terrain)
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab in the parking lot
A behind-the-wheel experience on the autocross course showed Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure tires gripped the corners on wet asphalt.

Goodyear provided an opportunity to experience their Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar® tires in Colorado Springs, CO, one of America’s top areas for outdoor recreational activities. They offered several on-road and dirt-road experiences behind the wheel of a variety of SUVs and pickup trucks in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains.

Driving a long wheelbase Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab through a parking lot autocross course may not be the most intuitive way to experience an On-/Off-Road All-Terrain tire. However, its asphalt handling and traction are very important since this type of tire will typically spend more time on-road than off. And while no one would mistake this vehicle/tire combination for a sporty coupe on Goodyear Eagle performance tires, the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar provided good grip, predictable handling and capable stopping traction in both dry and wet conditions.

In order to cover today’s ever-growing range of light truck vehicles, Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar tires are available in Standard Load metric sizes, as well as heavy-duty Load Range E LT-metric sizes. Goodyear identifies the heavy-duty sizes as Pro Grade tires for drivers who work hard and play hard, and are often faced with hauling heavy loads or towing large trailers for work or recreation. A 1 ½-hour scenic drive would provide the opportunity to experience both versions.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab on a hill
Driving on Rocky Mountain canyon roads demonstrated the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure lived up to its name on gravel and dirt.

Starting out from Colorado Springs in a Chevrolet Tahoe on the 265/70R17 Standard Load metric tires, the route headed south on the road. The Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar tires provided appropriate ride qualities and proved to be very quiet on the road. The route went into the mountains and followed the canyon roads to higher elevations. As the asphalt ended and the graded dirt roads began, the tires’ open shoulders and multi-faceted tread blocks delivered predictable steering response and traction on dirt.

Reaching the mid-point destination, we had the opportunity to change vehicles and drive a Ram 1500 Crew Cab on Pro Grade LT265/70R17 Load Range E tires for our return. The Ram’s driver doorjamb tire placard called for 40 psi cold inflation pressures and we were again treated to a quiet, comfortable ride for the trip back to town.

While we didn’t get a chance to truly challenge the off-road capabilities of the Kevlar-reinforced treads or Durawall Technology sidewall rubber, past experience confirms both contribute to the tire’s toughness and strength.

Customers Say

Customers think the Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar delivers excellent dry traction (9-10 scores) and strong wet performance, though a few note hydroplaning concerns in heavy rain. Winter traction shows capability in rugged conditions but has mixed scores (5-10), with some drivers reporting challenges on ice. Ride comfort earns consistent praise (7-10) for smoothness and low noise. Treadwear ratings vary widely (0-10), with many praising durability but a few noting premature wear. As an on-road all-terrain tire, it excels in dry and wet handling while offering reliable off-road grip, making it a solid choice for drivers prioritizing traction and comfort in varied conditions.

...Wet traction is outstanding- I used to easily break the stock tires loose in rain or light snow and now and these Wranglers just grab and go...

I bought these tires to replace the worn out stock Bridgestone Duelers on my Silverado. The ride quality and low noise is superior to any all-terrain I've ever owned. They track nicely on the highway (no wandering) and have superb cornering characteristics. Wet traction is outstanding- I used to easily break the stock tires loose in rain or light snow and now and these Wranglers just grab and go. I also regularly drive on dirt/rough roads that frequently give other people flat tires, even trucks with other-brand all-terrains. These tires get full durability marks from me as I've haven't had a single flat since I bought them. These Wranglers get my endorsement as a great all-around truck tire.

...Also happy with their dry and wet traction so far.

We haven't had these tires for too long as they came on our new GC Trailhawk. Most miles to this point have been highway, but we will start adding offroad mileage soon. They ride is good and they don't make a lot of noise. Also happy with their dry and wet traction so far.

The Goodyear Wrangler delivers strong winter traction, with many customers scoring 9s and 10s in snow and deep snow conditions. While ice traction shows more variability, most ratings reflect capable performance for an all-terrain tire in challenging winter scenarios.

...Very pleased with these tires and highly recommend them - especially for 4x4 applications in winter snow and ice conditions. In Michigan, 2018 was a cold, snowy and icy winter and the tires performed great...

Purchased OEM tire size 265/70/R17 for my Z71 Suburban - I was intending to buy an All-Season Michelin, but the GoodYear All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar were highly recommended by my local tire dealer over any other tire they sold for my use (winter use and trailering). I didn't like the OEM GoodYear Wrangler's at all - noisy, rough riding and poor performance in snow. Very pleased with these tires and highly recommend them - especially for 4x4 applications in winter snow and ice conditions. In Michigan, 2018 was a cold, snowy and icy winter and the tires performed great. Have 11/32 tread remaining after over 13,000 miles of use.

This is the 5th set of tires I've had on this truck. It's a company vehicle that I've driven since it was new. I drive in all weather conditons, and all off-road conditions for the work I do. Putting these tires on was like geting beefed-up shocks. It handles and corners like a mid-sized sedan now. The traction is excellent in all conditions. We had a big snow storm with 35deg temps yesterday, which left 3" of icy slush on the roads. No problem. Today, the temp dropped to 22deg, so the now the slush has frozen solid. No problem. Very happy with these tires, just glad I didn't have to pay for them myself:)

I took off the OEM Dunlops at 14k. The Wrangler Kevlar tires have been a super upgrade. I have not had them off road yet but will in a few months. At first I wasn't sure about their ice traction but then I noticed I could pull out of my driveway on an icy road and go up a slight incline in 2wd. Normally I would need to switch into 4wd. Deep and not so deep snow have all been zero problems. They drive very quiet on the road too. The ride is smooth. I just wish Goodyear didn't have a dozen tires named Wrangler. It makes it confusing to sort them out since they are all so different in tread style and construction. There are even two load ratings of this Wrangler Kevlar tire available in case you tow heavy loads. If you don't need the higher load rating, don't let the dealer talk you into them since they only will cost more. It's easy to miss the difference. I got the lower rated tires and tow a light tent trailer without issues.

Tires are probably great for off-road use, but I didn't buy the car for that. Trailhawk was the cheapest option for a V8 and the ZF-built 8 speed trans for towing. For on-road I found them to be quite fantastic in dry conditions. I'm a very spirited driver. Other car was a Cayman GTS. I pushed the JGC more than I probably should have in corners. Even used it as an instructor vehicle for lead-follow at a track day. Definitely surprised at the lateral grip of these Goodyears. Wet weather performance wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the best I've experienced in a tire. Definitely gets a little prone to hydroplaning through minor puddles as the tread gets low. I'm replacing them prior to reaching the wear bars because they've gotten sketchy at highway speeds in light rain. These were awful in the winter. I've never had this little confidence in a tire in the snow. Pick any all-season on any brand of cross-over SUV and they are probably better. Goodyear SR-A on my previous GMC Sierra weren't stellar and were definitely better in the snow.

...Dry and wet road traction and handling are excellent...

Excellent tires. They have fully met my expectations in every way. But there's a bunch of confusing choices with this tire, probably why the reviews are mixed. Tire Rack has 4 listings, 2 are LT "pro-grade" severe snow service. 2 are not. There's a variety of load ranges, tread depth, speed ratings and ride stiffness. The LT lower load range that came stock on my 2015 f150 4wd sport, off road package are the best all-terrain's I've ever owned, and the only Goodyear tires I've really liked. Dry and wet road traction and handling are excellent. In the snow, I only drove them a couple times (I use Blizzaks in winter), acceleration was strong. Braking and handling was ok, about as good as be expected from an all-season tire. On sand, semi steep rocks and rough muddy trails they are 100% sure footed. No extreme off-roading tested though. Ride quality, very good and reasonably quiet. Measuring the tread used in 15k miles, I should make it to the 60k mileage warranty. I think they're actually worth the very high price.

...track very straight and true. They don't wander around like the original tires did...

Wow, I'm really happy with these. I've got these on a 2011 Ford F-150 4x4 SuperCrew and I'm impressed. These replaced the OEM tires that the truck came with.
The ride is much better with these, smooth...
A tiny bit noisier, but not an issue.
They seem to be wearing really well. I've had to make a few long road trips now, long distance highway driving. No signs of any abnormal wear. Tread depth is still deep, hard to notice any wear on these.
They track very straight and true. They don't wander around like the original tires did.
Traction is great in the rain, haven't spun the tires once and they do just fine in the corners. Confident handling in the rain...
Haven't had much snow to try them out in, but the little I drove through wasn't a problem.
Just fine on dirt roads.
A number of long trips have been while towing a 5000 pound trailer through mountains and long interstates. Tracking, handling, ride and wear have been great.
Still can't get over how well these are doing. Probably buy an identical set when it's time to replace them.

...If you get on a stretch of road with out any pot holes or big cracks (like most roads have these days), you will not hear any sound at all from these tires and the ride is much more comfortable. THe truck used to have Toyo Open Country tires of the same size but they were LT instead of p rating. I no longer tow a 5000 lb 22 ft.boat/trailer so I didn't need the load rating of the LTs anymore. I've seen the Toyos rated as a comfortable, quiet ride. I might have said that at one time. The Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrian Adventure with Kevlar make a big difference. If you get on a stretch of road with out any pot holes or big cracks (like most roads have these days), you will not hear any sound at all from these tires and the ride is much more comfortable. After a few miles, I had to get out and check to make sure it was Goodyears on the truck. I thought maybe the shop had made a mistake and put "Tempurpedic" tire on. Make sure you get plenty of sleep, the sound from these tires will NOT help keep you awake.

...The ride comfort is smooth and there isn't much in the way of noise.

This review is based on mostly city/ highway with some snow driving and off roading mixed in.

Wet weather: I never noticed hydroplaning, the breaking distance didn't decrease in the wet weather. I didn't have any weight in the bed and I did experience a little bit of sliding when hitting the gas hard on an uphill but if easing it there were no issues.

Dry weather: The cornering stability was good but a bit heavy in the wheel when turning, the tires had plenty of grip. During acceleration, braking and cornering there were no issues, definitely plenty of grip. The steering response was heavy but that was due to the solid grip of the tires especially in the summer from the heat.

Off-road: On loose dirt it would track well on the straight aways but going into the turns you would feel the rear end lose traction (this is while in 2 wheel drive). I haven't driven in much sand but the sand I was in wasn't very deep and it did ok so I gave it a 9. In mud I gave it a 6 as the grooves in the tires are not wide enough to handle slick, deep or wet mud. When there is a mud/ rock combination there is much less control of the vehicle and that is the same even in 4 wheel drive. I never had a flat tire and the Kevlar side wall is a huge plus when encountering sharp objects while off road.

Winter/ snow: This is based off Tahoe area driving with no weight in the bed. The ice traction is horrible to where even in 4 wheel drive it feels like you have no grip, if you accelerate very slowly it will be ok. When it comes to deep snow the grooves of the tread are too small and the snow packs into the grooves creating a slick tire. Light snow it tracks fine and doesn't do much sliding, the tread on this tire is much more suited to light snow.

Comfort: The ride comfort is smooth and there isn't much in the way of noise. The tread wear has been excellent but I do rotate my tires every 5000 miles and put the recommended tire pressure in them.

I have only had this tire for a week. My initial impression of this tire is excellent. They are quite on the highway and they provide a nice stable ride. They are a little firmer ride than the Goodyear Wrangler SRAs that I replaced which is just what the truck needed. The truck used to have a little bounce to it turning, braking and going over bumps. that is gone now. I can't wait to try them towing.

...When Goodyear changed to the Adventurer they blew it... treadwear can be poor- I was told by a Goodyear dealer that there has been batch issues with these tires out of China, apparently paying attention to the rubber compounding is a problem...

The older Wrangler Silent Armour was a great tire, used to last 2 winter seasons, we live at 4000 ft in the Sierra foothills 22 mi. from Hwy 50 & my wife would drive 55 mi to Sacramento for work. When Goodyear changed to the Adventurer they blew it, snow traction is marginal at best, treadwear can be poor- I was told by a Goodyear dealer that there has been batch issues with these tires out of China, apparently paying attention to the rubber compounding is a problem.
The Forest Service outside Placerville, CA. quit using them for the same reason I am, not going to pay a premium price for low quality. The dealer I purchased this set from stated they could probably get goodyear to help out on a new set (that was at 17,000 mi & almost 2/3 gone, bald now) Not spending good money after bad.
