The Crugen HT51 is Kumho's Highway All-Season tire developed for drivers of light-duty pickups, vans, crossovers and sport utility vehicles looking for durability, a comfortable ride and all-season capability, including light snow traction. The Crugen HT51 is an all-weather tire that meets industry severe snow service requirements for the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol alongside its all-season performance.

Kumho Crugen HT51 Callouts

The Crugen HT51 utilizes an all-season tread compound molded into an asymmetric tread design with an optimized geometric block layout for maximum treadlife. The five-rib tread design features a stiff center block design for improved straight-line stability and enhanced dry traction. Four wide, circumferential zigzag grooves create a vortex effect to enhance water flow-through, increasing hydroplaning resistance, while 3D zigzag sipes provide the biting edges necessary for light snow traction.

Beginning in the 13th week of 2017, all Crugen HT51 tires manufactured are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol, indicating they are severe snow service rated. Tires manufactured before this date may not bear the 3PMSF symbol, but all Crugen HT51 tires meet the standards required for severe snow service rating.

The tire’s internal structure consists of a two-ply polyester cord body for enhanced ride quality and improved strength. Two wide steel belts sit on top of the casing and are reinforced by two spirally-wrapped nylon cord caps, enhancing handling, durability and stability at highway speeds.

Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.

Customers Say

Customer ratings showcase the Kumho Crugen HT51 as a reliable highway all-season tire, with strong dry traction (8-10 scores) and confident wet performance highlighted by solid hydroplaning resistance. Winter traction earns praise for snowy conditions, though a few note reduced grip on ice. Riders appreciate the comfortable, quiet experience, aligning with expectations for touring-focused tires. Tread life receives consistent positive feedback, with many users reporting satisfactory longevity for highway use. While most categories score 7-10, occasional lower marks in ice traction and noise levels suggest room for refinement without detracting from overall satisfaction in its intended role.

...They easily best the Laredo's for rain traction; the Kumho's have INCREDIBLE traction in the rain, and my truck is light... And...as I mentioned before, I am shocked at how well my truck grips the road in the rain with the Kumhos...

Very surprised and satisfied. I've had Firestone Destination LE's; Uniroyal Laredo's, and General Grabbers on my truck. They easily best the Laredo's for rain traction; the Kumho's have INCREDIBLE traction in the rain, and my truck is light. Dry traction is good. Noise wise, they're about as quiet as the Firestone's - which I thought to be quiet. Bump impact harshness is very good, although the Kumho's firmed up the ride; you feel road imperfections a lot more - this is an undesirable trait. The Grabbers, surprisingly, offered a much smoother ride; of course, the Destination's offered a smoother ride, which was to be expected, given that tire's mission statement. The Kumho's dry traction is solid and above average; hydroplaning resistance in deep standing water is good. And...as I mentioned before, I am shocked at how well my truck grips the road in the rain with the Kumhos. Given their price, I am very satisfied. I do wish they offered up a smoother ride, but mine is an older truck; given the price, they're a far better alternative to the Laredo's. The Destination is a better tire, but it's more expensive.

I researched this tire to death, wanting a sturdy tire for towing, good wet performance and a quiet ride. These tires are EXCEPTIONAL. They are quiet, tow a 16,000lb camper through the mountains and walk through water like a duck. Great value, great tire.

...I've found that these tires provide great traction on dry pavement, in rain and snow (of various consistencies)...

I was seriously considering purchasing a set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires for my truck. After reviewing and comparing the performance test results against the Michelins and other brands I found that the Kumho's score was equal to and in some instances better than. Combining the test results with the price, I decided to take a chance and I've found that these tires provide great traction on dry pavement, in rain and snow (of various consistencies).

The Kumho Crugen HT51 tires have worn well, +50,000 miles, as I drive a lot for my job as a Construction Manager. These tires are also quite comfortable and I like them so much that I purchased a set for my wife's vehicle, a 2007 Lincoln MKX AWD and am purchasing another set for my 2016 GMC Canyon.

For the price and performance, a great set of tires!

...The snow traction has been excellent, though there haven't been any blizzards this winter so I cannot comment on really deep stuff...

Better than the price and many reviews would leave you to expect. Our CRV isn't the most awesome vehicle in the family fleet. Let's face it the Honda CRV is more about utility than style points, especially when you put your college-age kid into one for their daily commute. With my use case in mind I took time during a boring meeting to review tires and see if there were something worth putting on an aging CRV that seldom leaves the city boundaries. Thankfully the entire meeting was a pointless snooze-fest and I had enough time to decide to gamble on these Kumhos. The entire transaction went smoothly, the tires arrived at our local installer, and in less than a week our intrepid little AWD was ready for the prospect of a Nebraska Winter. Is this the smoothest riding, quietest tire out there? No. But it wasn't worse than our old Michelin Defenders, and our initial impression is that they may be a slight step up. The snow traction has been excellent, though there haven't been any blizzards this winter so I cannot comment on really deep stuff. The ride is nice enough and quiet enough not to lose our minds on in-town, daily commutes. All-in-all this tire performs way above its pay grade and I'd buy another set if this CRV lives that long.

...These *cheaper* Kumho tires are better in literally EVERY condition. Dry, wet, and snow handling is great...

OEM Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires started to develop dry rot after about 2 years and 30,000 miles. They had incredibly poor wet and snow traction, but were decent on dry roads. After a particularly bad bit of understeer at <5mph in light snow resulting in major curb rash on one of my wheels, I decided to upgrade. These *cheaper* Kumho tires are better in literally EVERY condition. Dry, wet, and snow handling is great. It's awesome that they're severe snow service rated. I haven't had any problems with noise or harshness. I'm sure based on the quality so far that these tires will continue to exceed my expectations.

...traction great in wet & dry conditions driving primarily highway / city conditions back and forward to work & hauling thing for the house...

Bought these tires in 2016 for my used and first truck a 2000 Sierra sle ext cab truck which had ( 265/65/16 ) Firestone destination tires and 170,000 miles. After changing (4) shocks, front ball joints and bushings all original, Crugen ht51s ( 265/70/17 ) were purchased and have performed with no problems. Have put 23,000 miles on tires so far ride is quiet, traction great in wet & dry conditions driving primarily highway / city conditions back and forward to work & hauling thing for the house. No driving in snow here in Maryland due to lack of snow this year, but based upon my past driving experience in Western NY winter snow I feel driven cautiously these tires will perform well. Would buy again, great purchase. Tire Rack rep Nick was fantastic ext 4246

...Steering control is spot on...

dare I say better then Michelin DEFENDER LTX M/S. The tread patterns are almost identical except the sipes on the Michelin run deeper. But this Kuhmo is almost $75.00 cheaper per tire!! This tire runs quiet, smooth and absorbs road imperfections just like the LTX. Steering control is spot on. Very pleased with this purchase. 2 thumbs up !!

...Personally I prefer comfort, and quiet in ride quality as my main focus... I wasn't disappointed...

Due to reviews & Tire Racks extremely nice website I was able to compare and form a decision on the best tires to fit my driving territory and Preference. Personally I prefer comfort , and quiet in ride quality as my main focus. All round performance is a close second and everything else in a tire should be dependability. I felt this tire had very good reviews and I personally would recommend and buy these tires again as my first experience. I wasn’t disappointed, thanks Tirerack.com for the help.

Only had these tires for a short time by but have been impressed so far. I bought them because they were a great alternative to the OE Michelins - reasnable price, great treadwear number, rated for severe snow service (I live in MI), and good reviews. They have proven to be quiet on the highway and responsive around town. Looking forward to winter to see how they perform. So far though, I am very happy with my purchase.

Very good tires. Quiet and comfortable ride on the highway. Treadwear is excellent, still have 8/32 after 54,000 miles. Tires rotated every 10-15k miles and have had one alignment and balance. I make one trip per year to the buffalo area in the winter and they handle excellent on snowy roads. The only gripe I have with these tires are in the mud. I have gotten stuck a few times in muddy grass, but these tires aren't really made for off road. Overall excellent experience with these tires.
