Pirelli P Zero Run Flat (PZ4) tires are Max Performance Summer tires derived from Pirelli's Formula 1 experience and developed for use as Original Equipment on the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and MINI Clubman, with select replacement tire sizes also included in the lineup. P Zero Run Flat (PZ4) tires are designed for the drivers of sports car, sport coupes and high-performance luxury sedans and provide the convenience of temporary extended mobility in the event of complete air pressure loss. Pirelli's warranty does not cover tires that develop compound cracking due to use in ambient temperatures below 45° Fahrenheit (7° Celsius), so the P Zero Run Flat (PZ4), like all summer tires, is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The P Zero Run Flat (PZ4) utilizes a special high silica content summer-only rubber compound that is molded into an asymmetric tread design focused on comfort, low rolling resistance, low noise and lateral hydroplaning resistance. Wide, circumferential grooves and lateral notches are utilized for efficient water evacuation at speed or while braking to improve resistance to longitudinal hydroplaning.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by a hybrid nylon and Kevlar ZeroDegree cap ply. Based on the desired performance characteristics of the Original Equipment application, the tire casing will be two-ply polyester or one- or two-ply rayon, with either symmetric or asymmetric construction. With many combinations of material and orientation available during development, tire designers have the ability to fine-tune the tire's internal construction to further match the personality of the automobile for which it is engineered.

The sidewalls of the P Zero Run Flat (PZ4) feature additional reinforcement to provide self-supporting run-flat capabilities of up to 50 mph for up to 50 miles (80 km/h for 80 km). Due to these restrictions, it is imperative drivers be notified when a loss in tire pressure occurs and requires the vehicle be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) to detect and signal tire pressure changes.

Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. Because MOExtended or MOE tires do not have the same speed and distance endurance of conventional run-flat tires, they should not be substituted in any situation where a conventional run-flat tire is required. To confirm what your vehicle needs, check our Original Equipment tire listing for your year, make and model or see your vehicle owner's manual.

Customers Say

Customer feedback data reveals strong performance in dry traction, with scores frequently reaching 9-10, highlighting confident grip and responsive handling ideal for summer driving. Wet traction also earns praise, with most ratings between 8-10, though a few note reduced hydroplaning resistance in heavy rain. Ride comfort receives positive marks for smoothness, though noise levels vary slightly, with some drivers mentioning occasional road hum. Treadwear shows mixed results: many report satisfactory tread life for a max performance summer tire, but several note rapid wear, particularly under aggressive driving. Overall, the tire excels in its intended categories, balancing summer-focused performance with reliable wet-weather capability.

...Braking and handling is exceptional in both dry and wet conditions...

These tires came on my car (2 year lease return, purchased as CPO). They had 16K miles on them when I got the car. I've since put 12.5K on them. I had to replace the rear tires at 26K (same brand, different size, 255/30/R20, they were quite loud and worn down to tread-wear bars, bought from Tire Rack). The front tires can go about 3-5K at most at this point (so that should be about 31-33K roughly). I drive in pothole abundant place, Philadelphia, and they're holding up without any issues, even the fronts which are fairly worn down at this point. I'll probably replace the fronts next April, as I have a dedicated winter set that will be installed from Nov-Apr to handle the winter weather. Since my car came with 20" wheels and staggered setup, this is the only RFT out there that fits the bill (3 others that are non-RFT are available). So unless I want to run non-RFT, this is it. I'm glad that these are dependable and I prefer the RFT option for peace of mind and safety they provide. Braking and handling is exceptional in both dry and wet conditions. Needless to say I'll be getting another set in the near future. Strongly recommended for relatively long wear (220 wear rating tire) and dependability they've provided so far.

...Dry traction is the best I've ever experienced on any car I've owned in the past... Steering and cornering is super responsive under all conditions... Braking is truly outstanding...

They were installed on my 2010 BMW 550i GT with the OEM M5 wheels about three days BEFORE I purchased the car used..... I've got just shy of 12K on them to date and I really couldn't be much happier than what I am...... Dry traction is the best I've ever experienced on any car I've owned in the past.... Steering and cornering is super responsive under all conditions.... Braking is truly outstanding.

Ride comfort/quality is very good considering all things..... Yes, the ride is a little stiff but I truly believe that has a little [more] to do with the car's OEM installed Sport's Package suspension rather than run-flats, or their very nature.

My driving habits are probably 60% interstates and the remainder 40% city driving.... seven times out of ten, I drive aggressively and am not afraid to "open" it up on the highways.... Noise is apparent but by NO means obnoxious or unbearable; I've had a lot worse from NON run-flats UHP summer tires..... Tread-wear is pretty good all things considered; remember, you're riding on UHP summer tires AND they happen to be run-flats.... SO with 12K on them thus far with about one-third of tread-life remaining AND given my driving habits, I'm pretty darn happy!

I'd say I [realistically] have another 5-7K tread-life remaining [at best] and - while four of these will run me about $2,400.00 out-the-door as I recently priced - I will most certainly be purchasing the very same tires again...... Recommended!

On [several] previous cars - from muscle to sports - I've run Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport, Goodyear Eagle F1, Sumitomo HTR Z III, Toyo Proxes T1 Sport, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus Zero Pressure and B.F.Goodrich G-Force Sport COMP-2 and I would COMFORTABLY choose the Pirelli's reviewed here over the rest.

For the record, from the list above, the ONLY tire that came close under all conditions to the Pirelli's were the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport..... Close but no cigar.

Thanks for reading.

Excellent under hard driving conditions. Able to hold 1.2g lateral and 0.9g braking on the track (MSR Cresson) with 30psi front and 37psi rear, cold. Verified with tire marker for no rollover onto sidewalls. And that's at end of life. Plenty of warning before tires break loose, easily controllable rotation. Ride on the street is what you'd expect from a stiff sidewall tire which is what I was looking for, ymmv. Excellent road feel and feedback, well behaved under very heavy braking. No bad experiences in wet conditions or during the winter but moderated driving accordingly. Ride and performance is just night and day over the OE Bridgestone RE050 tires which were changed out for P-Zero RFTs at 13,500 miles. Car has camber plates and BMW Performance suspension, stainless brake lines and racing brake fluid. Note OE 17" wheels were changed out for 18" wheels when tires were changed from OE to P-Zero.

...On dry pavement these tires were quick, responsive and secure on tight turns...

These tires were OEM on my Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti (19" staggered wheels). I am an average driver with some spirited driving on well paved roads. On dry pavement these tires were quick, responsive and secure on tight turns. Less so on wet pavement and prone to hydroplane when worn. The tires lose pressure when the temperature drops and I had to constantly check and inflate the tires during the winter months. I never drove in the snow but drove in cold weather (below 40 degrees). The tire's performance dropped significantly at temps below 40 degrees. The rear tires were bald by 10,000 miles (unbelievable!). The front tires had 40% tread left. I replaced them with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s and loving them. Will see how they perform and hold up.

...Very quiet ride. Super smooth tires. I couldn't be more pleased!

Kudos to Tire Rack! Great price, superb email updates on incredibly fast delivery of only 2 days from time or order to my drop ship choice that charged exactly what TR said they would. What a difference compared to the Bridgestone RE050 runflats that came off the car. Very quiet ride. Super smooth tires. I couldn't be more pleased!

...Tire rides pretty hard, but have heard that is standard for RunFlats. I am possibly going to switch to Continentals or Bridgestone non RunFlat tires next for a better ride...

Had BMW switch from the Goodyear RunFlats because of 3 blowouts within two weeks of purchasing car... Since I have changed to Pirelli i have not had the blow out problems luckily. Tire rides pretty hard, but have heard that is standard for RunFlats. I am possibly going to switch to Continentals or Bridgestone non RunFlat tires next for a better ride. Overall excellent reliable tire.

...After 18000 miles the rear staggered are done - in an SUV... For me, I'm not dropping $1400 for 22k miles, period.

Another "I can't believe these tires were rated this high" review. Maybe because despite the horrible tread wear and road noise, the dry-handling characteristics were very well, and that's all I can say that's good. After 18000 miles the rear staggered are done - in an SUV. I didn't expect much from an OEM setup, so can't say I'm surprised, but if people are buying these as replacements, they must not care too much about cost. For me, I'm not dropping $1400 for 22k miles, period.

...I am very disappointed with the tread wear of the rears... The front tires have an average depth of 7 mils and the rear average 3.2 mils... Since Pirelli has no tread wear warranty, I am left with purchasing 2 new rear tires much sooner than expected...

Just had the alignment and tires checked this morning. I am very disappointed with the tread wear of the rears. The tech just called me. The front tires have an average depth of 7 mils and the rear average 3.2 mils. The alignment checked out and the wear is even across the tires, with the outer being .2 mills less than the inner depth.

This is my wife's car, and she does not drive aggressively at all.

Since Pirelli has no tread ware warranty or guarantee, I am left with purchasing 2 new rear tires much sooner than expected. Since these are the OEM recommended tire for the car, I was planning on staying with them, but will definitely look to other brands when the fronts are ready for replacement.
