The P Zero Run Flat is a Max Performance Summer self-supporting run-flat tire developed for the drivers of sports cars, sports coupes and high performance luxury sedans looking to combine the know-how derived from 100 years of Pirelli motorsport experience with the convenience of temporary extended mobility in the event of complete air pressure loss. Used as Original Equipment on Mini Cooper S and BMW 7 Series sedans, the P Zero Run Flat lineup includes selected additional replacement tire sizes for other vehicles. Pirelli's warranty does not cover tires that develop compound cracking due to use in ambient temperatures below 45° Fahrenheit (7° Celsius), so the P Zero Run Flat, like all summer tires, is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

P Zero Run Flat tires feature a special silica and carbon black tread compound that proves competent during the first few miles of driving when the tire is still cold, as well as provides consistent performance throughout the tire's life. The tread compound is molded into Pirelli's S-treme asymmetric design in which the location and width of the circumferential and lateral grooves minimize deformation to blend responsive handling, hydroplaning resistance and wet traction with dry road performance, even wear and acoustic comfort. Special nano-composites in the compound beneath the tread protect the casing from deterioration and merge sport handling with ride comfort. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by polyamide cord plies and an integration of nylon and aramid cord that controls tire profile deformation and stabilizes the tread area to enhance high-speed capability and handling.

Sidewalls feature additional reinforcements to provide self-supporting run-flat capabilities of 50 mph for 50 miles (80 km/h for 80 km). Due to these restrictions, it's imperative drivers be notified when a loss in tire pressure occurs and requires the vehicle be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) to detect and signal tire pressure changes.

Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. Because MOExtended or MOE tires do not have the same speed and distance endurance of conventional run-flat tires, they should not be substituted in any situation where a conventional run-flat tire is required. To confirm what your vehicle needs, check our Original Equipment tire listing for your year, make and model or see your vehicle owner's manual.

Customers Say

Customer feedback data reveals strong dry traction (scores 8-10 dominate) with precise cornering and responsive handling, aligning with its Max Performance Summer design. Wet traction earns positive marks (7-10 common), though some note reduced hydroplaning resistance in heavy rain. Comfort receives mixed feedback: many praise a balanced ride (scores 7-8 frequent), while others report harshness or noise in aggressive driving. Treadwear emerges as a key concern, with rapid wear and disappointing tread life (scores 0-5 frequent) noted by drivers prioritizing longevity. Performance-focused buyers rate it highly for dry/wet grip, but tread durability may disappoint those seeking extended use.

...Braking and handling is exceptional in both dry and wet conditions...

These tires came on my car (2 year lease return, purchased as CPO). They had 16K miles on them when I got the car. I've since put 12.5K on them. I had to replace the rear tires at 26K (same brand, different size, 255/30/R20, they were quite loud and worn down to tread-wear bars, bought from Tire Rack). The front tires can go about 3-5K at most at this point (so that should be about 31-33K roughly). I drive in pothole abundant place, Philadelphia, and they're holding up without any issues, even the fronts which are fairly worn down at this point. I'll probably replace the fronts next April, as I have a dedicated winter set that will be installed from Nov-Apr to handle the winter weather. Since my car came with 20" wheels and staggered setup, this is the only RFT out there that fits the bill (3 others that are non-RFT are available). So unless I want to run non-RFT, this is it. I'm glad that these are dependable and I prefer the RFT option for peace of mind and safety they provide. Braking and handling is exceptional in both dry and wet conditions. Needless to say I'll be getting another set in the near future. Strongly recommended for relatively long wear (220 wear rating tire) and dependability they've provided so far.

...The wet road performance of the Pirellis is light years ahead of the Bridgestones, and rivals that of non-run flat performance tires I have driven...

I'm writing this review specifically for a BMW 135is. All of my ratings are in comparison to the Bridgestone Potenzas that were the stock tire. This is a pretty unique car (one model year), although because of the similarities to the M2, I think my results might generalize well to those too. I hated the stock Potenzas, but I did manage to get 25,000 miles out of them (but any tread remaining on them when I changed them out was very minimal). There is no category where the Pirellis were worse than the Bridgestones, in fact, the Pirellis are much, much quieter. The wet road performance of the Pirellis is light years ahead of the Bridgestones, and rivals that of non-run flat performance tires I have driven. Dry road performance is better than the Bridgestones, but not so much to be a matter of consideration. Finally, the wear after 10,000 on them is much less than the Bridgestones after their first 10,000 miles. Based on this, I expect to get at least 30k out of these, and maybe even closer to 40k if I let them go to the wear level I went with the Potenzas. Persons familiar with the car model will understand that run-flats are almost a necessity. Even if one was to adopt an 18" doughnut-spare it would either take up 80% of the trunk space, or more than half of the rear seat space. I haven't been disappointed by the "performance" of these tires. I drive very aggressively, and I doubt I would see much difference between these tires and gummy summer performance tires under most normal driving conditions (I have yet to make them slip accelerating to over 100MPH on highway on-ramps, for example). Considering the choices available in run-flats and their comparative prices, these tires should be a no-brainer for this particular vehicle (and probably any RWD sports car).

...Dry traction is the best I've ever experienced on any car I've owned in the past... Steering and cornering is super responsive under all conditions... Braking is truly outstanding...

They were installed on my 2010 BMW 550i GT with the OEM M5 wheels about three days BEFORE I purchased the car used..... I've got just shy of 12K on them to date and I really couldn't be much happier than what I am...... Dry traction is the best I've ever experienced on any car I've owned in the past.... Steering and cornering is super responsive under all conditions.... Braking is truly outstanding.

Ride comfort/quality is very good considering all things..... Yes, the ride is a little stiff but I truly believe that has a little [more] to do with the car's OEM installed Sport's Package suspension rather than run-flats, or their very nature.

My driving habits are probably 60% interstates and the remainder 40% city driving.... seven times out of ten, I drive aggressively and am not afraid to "open" it up on the highways.... Noise is apparent but by NO means obnoxious or unbearable; I've had a lot worse from NON run-flats UHP summer tires..... Tread-wear is pretty good all things considered; remember, you're riding on UHP summer tires AND they happen to be run-flats.... SO with 12K on them thus far with about one-third of tread-life remaining AND given my driving habits, I'm pretty darn happy!

I'd say I [realistically] have another 5-7K tread-life remaining [at best] and - while four of these will run me about $2,400.00 out-the-door as I recently priced - I will most certainly be purchasing the very same tires again...... Recommended!

On [several] previous cars - from muscle to sports - I've run Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport, Goodyear Eagle F1, Sumitomo HTR Z III, Toyo Proxes T1 Sport, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus Zero Pressure and B.F.Goodrich G-Force Sport COMP-2 and I would COMFORTABLY choose the Pirelli's reviewed here over the rest.

For the record, from the list above, the ONLY tire that came close under all conditions to the Pirelli's were the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport..... Close but no cigar.

Thanks for reading.

Excellent under hard driving conditions. Able to hold 1.2g lateral and 0.9g braking on the track (MSR Cresson) with 30psi front and 37psi rear, cold. Verified with tire marker for no rollover onto sidewalls. And that's at end of life. Plenty of warning before tires break loose, easily controllable rotation. Ride on the street is what you'd expect from a stiff sidewall tire which is what I was looking for, ymmv. Excellent road feel and feedback, well behaved under very heavy braking. No bad experiences in wet conditions or during the winter but moderated driving accordingly. Ride and performance is just night and day over the OE Bridgestone RE050 tires which were changed out for P-Zero RFTs at 13,500 miles. Car has camber plates and BMW Performance suspension, stainless brake lines and racing brake fluid. Note OE 17" wheels were changed out for 18" wheels when tires were changed from OE to P-Zero.

My MINI JCW Package is a 'true sports coupe' and I expect that it 'works as advertised'. Out here in AZ, we don't much worry about rain so I can go 'all out' on the best performance tire there is. The Perilli's P-Zero (RFT) 'MUST' react as quickly as I do. Maybe I shouldn't but hey if you have the car and it can do it, then go do it. I love making 'quick cuts' on the 101 out here at speeds above 80 mph. Sometimes I have perhaps no more than 'two feet' to spare between the vehicles I'm going to part and take off down the road. I wouldn't tell everyone who might read this to try it. You need 'motorcycle fast' depth preception and reflexes. I've been riding for 46 years. When you think that all the difference there is between doing this or ending up in a wreck is four 'tire prints', they better be 'up to the challenge'. The P-Zero is and along with the handling of the car that I expect allows me to 'fully concentrate on my driving. Let's be honest. If we're on this site checking tires, reviews, etc, we're not the 'average' Joe in the Sedan get your tires at Price Costco. The only other tire I'm going to check out is the 'new' Michelin Max.Performance Summer tire 'Super Sport'. However, I'd get these tires again in a 'heartbeat'. They wear well, handle superbly, noise level is 'non-existant' but the best compliment I can give any tire is "I totally trust it". Nuff said.

Kudos to Tire Rack! Great price, superb email updates on incredibly fast delivery of only 2 days from time or order to my drop ship choice that charged exactly what TR said they would. What a difference compared to the Bridgestone RE050 runflats that came off the car. Very quiet ride. Super smooth tires. I couldn't be more pleased!

Have zero complaints about how this tire contributes to the performance of my vehicle. Only 2 issues, which I guess should be expected on a low profile run-flat summer performance tire: they are basically shot at 12k miles and ride quality is pretty bumpy. If the cost isn't prohibitive for you to replace every 10k-12k miles and a few harsher bumps don't bother you, I wouldn't have any specific issue here - have great grip, corner well, and aren't especially noisy even with advanced wear.

These are the worst tires I've ever had on any car. Period. They came with the vehicle, and here's the catch: Mercedes told me there were no other options. Pirelli run-flats can't be fixed once damaged (unlike those of many other brands). So, I'm now on my third replacement tire since December due to terrible Dallas road conditions.

Furthermore, Mercedes doesn't equip its run-flat cars with a spare tire. So here's where it gets extra infuriating: the run-flats will go 50 miles once damaged. But there is no spare. So if you're doing a cross country road trip and damage a tire in a rural area, you're screwed. Big time.

And these dumb Pirelli's until very recently were on backorder from Italy. In essence, you have an undriveable car. They are also very loud and very harsh. I'm thrilled to see that other people have discovered alternative tire options. I will never buy Pirelli's again.

...The one major draw back is they only lasted 15,000 miles and after 10,000 they started to get sloppy also they are very expensive tires...

In 2011 I purchased a Sherrod Mustang SSVT 500 and the vehicle team setup the vehicle with Pirelli P Zero Run Flats due to the fact that the car is so low to the ground. They provide a pump instead of a spare tire and jack. I found them to be perfect for how I drive and would highly recommend these tires for driving enthusiasts. The one major draw back is they only lasted 15,000 miles and after 10,000 they started to get sloppy also they are very expensive tires. But I bought them again and after 50 miles driven they are reminding me why I did! They sure grip the road! The price we pay for extreme performance. Worth every cent!
