The Discoverer Rugged Trek is Cooper's Rugged All-Terrain tire built for the drivers of pickup trucks, crossovers and full-size SUVs looking for a tire with a capable off-road appearance and performance which also maintains a smooth, comfortable ride on streets and highways. By carefully combining powerful off-road features with on-road design attributes, the Discoverer Rugged Trek is engineered as an aggressively stylized all-terrain tire with a performance emphasis on dry, wet and wintry conditions, including light snow.

Cooper's Discoverer Rugged Trek

The Discoverer Rugged Trek utilizes a durable all-season tread compound molded into a bold, symmetric tread pattern designed to wear evenly with longer tread life than many traditional off-road centric tires. Cooper's Stable Trac Technology built into the inboard tread blocks help provide clear road stability and control with omni-directional, micro gauge siping engineered to enhance grip on pavement and rough surfaces. Whisper Grooves molded between the center and outboard tread elements help dampen airborne noise from the pattern for increased on-road comfort. The deep, high-void tread pattern helps increase hydroplaning resistance while outer block sipes enhance slippery road grip and control. Aggressive Stone Blockades built into the edges of the tread grooves expel lodged rocks to protect against damaging stone drilling. Earth Diggers molded into each shoulder help propel through loose surfaces for traction in difficult all-terrain environments and snow.

The internal construction of the Discoverer Rugged Trek features a robust two-ply casing supporting twin high strength steel belts which focuses on blending durability with comfort. A single-ply nylon reinforcement is also added for high speed control and stability.

Select Discoverer Rugged Trek tires are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol to identify they meet the industry's severe snow service standards and if so, will be noted in the tire's Details & Pricing section. The absence of the "Severe Snow Service Rated" text indicates that size is not 3PMSF-branded.

Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek tires allow drivers to personalize their vehicles by offering dual sidewall designs on every tire. One side features a "Knife-Edge" styling with straighter lined shoulder elements, while the other side's "Mountain Pass" design includes jagged elements reminiscent of rugged mountain peaks. All tires feature both designs, allowing drivers to choose their look based on which is mounted outward on the wheel.

...These aggressive all-terrain beasts deliver a smooth, quiet ride on Florida highways with confident grip in wet conditions...

After slapping a fresh set of Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek LT 295/60R20 tires on my Toyota Tundra, I’ve put less than 2,000 miles on them and I’m already blown away by how incredible they perform. These aggressive all-terrain beasts deliver a smooth, quiet ride on Florida highways with confident grip in wet conditions, while the rugged tread and Earth Diggers shoulder scoops give my truck that tough, ready-for-anything look without sacrificing everyday comfort. They’re gripping strong, handling beautifully, and making every drive more enjoyable definitely the best tire I’ve bought for my 08 Tundra!

This is by far my favorite tire I've ever owned. I have yet to try it off road or in the snow, but dry and wet handling has been superb. I don't notice any road noise at all and they look amazing on my truck.

...I drove in 4 of snow over black ice and a inch thick ice frozen base. I never lost traction once, no slip or slide...

The simply rock, they are a little noisy but I drove in 4" of snow over black ice and a inch thick ice frozen base. I never lost traction once, no slip or slide, granted this happened during the first 1000 miles but I was shocked how sure footed my expedition was that day under the aforementioned conditions.
These are the best tires I've had. Thanks Cooper for making these tires. When it comes time to get new tires it will again be Cooper's again. My final test will be the puddle challenge I need to find a 4 inch or deeper monster and hit it at about 35mph. If there is no shift to the driving tract and no abrupt loss of control. I will be a very happy camper. Awesome tires so far only time will tell how they hold up. I have high expectations for future results. I live in the mountains north of LA so we see a lot of snow. As of late not a lot of rain however so my puddle test might take a while.

I have used these tires on ice/snow/dirt/dry, and wet roads, and there is nothing to complain about...

I purchased these tires to replace the factory 245/75/16 tires on my Tacoma. I was looking for a factory-spec size that provided more ground contact. I have used these tires on ice/snow/dirt/dry, and wet roads, and there is nothing to complain about. I tow trailers regularly and keep the tires at 40 psi, which keeps the truck very stable. MPG did suffer a little, but these tires will not disappoint. rotated every 5000 miles. Great on interstate or cruising backroads. Dropped summertime mpg from 21-22 down to 19-20 and winter from 20 to 18.

Living in Western NY with the snow and ice a good set of tires is a must. These got me through everything without any hassel. Deep snow, ice, wet roads nothing these tires couldn't handle. Got close to 40-45k miles out of one set almost lasting 4 years. Drive about 50 miles per day 5 days a week to work. Put on about 350 a week total. Highly recommend

...I have no issue with wet or dry handling...

Ok this is a new tire for me. I've had Bridgestone tires for years. Bridgestone quit making the 265/70R-17 Bridgestone Dueler A/T RH-S TPC Spec SL model. The offered replacement from Bridgestone didn't look like it would work for a snow environment like we get at 5500 ft in pine mountain club, ca so on to Cooper their marketing video with the showing dry, wet , snow, and sand got me interested. At worse case I'd sell the tires with low mileage and get something else. So on to the fact that sold me. We get frequent and intense weather so when we get snow, we get snow. It can be ice on the bottom with a layer of slush then the snow cap. So with new tires installed. My wife and I had a scheduled trip to Beverly hills. We left at 7 am there was 4" on the ground with a lot more scheduled for later in the day. We effortlessly drove by multiple cars off the road and stuck in the snow. We even stopped a couple of times to offer help. Not once did we have problems starting back up, nor did we have issues slipping or sliding. The traction was always spot on no problems, mind you this is a road that has seen a lot of traffic weather related problems.

Cooper tires have more than impressed me the snow handling was my primary driver but I have no issue with wet or dry handling . My one experience on sand was great after I dropped the tire pressure to 25 psi. The only condition I didn't check out was silt. On highway 17 going to Santa Cruz in winter when it rains, silt washes out to the road and well it turns into the slip and slide highway. Tire Traction can be nonexistant. I have no equivalent in southern california so i didn't test this even though someone from the bay area with these tires who drives 17 regularly could comment on this. Yes I would buy Cooper branded tires again no question!!! Over the years I've had Goodyear, Yokohama, Bridgestone and now Cooper's on my expedition. To date Cooper are the hands down winner.

...Very aggresive tread and really hoping they last the 55000 mile...

Great tire. Cleans well in mud and definately digs down to find a bottom or at least it does on my setup. they do require a little wearing in when they are brand new because of road walking a little bit but about 5000 miles in and no more road walk. Very aggresive tread and really hoping they last the 55000 mile. They havent showed really any wear yet still have the nipples on them. We had a ice storm earlier this year and didnt have to use 4x4 at all. Very good tire.

...Highly recommend these tires if you want excellent off road capability while maintaining a comfortable ride on the road.

So far I really like these tires more than the Discoverer STT. More because of the type of driving I do. Mostly road but will take on dirt/gravel roads. These are a great all terrain tire. Looks more aggressive without the loud knobby noise on the road. No issues or punctures with rocky trails in AZ. Mud isn’t too much of an issue as long as you’re in 4x4 or AWD. Surprisingly grippy in the rain even with highway speeds. Only slippage I got in the rain was one specific turn I do when commuting back home from the gym - a right hand turn onto an uphill road and I would slip on the white strip for the crosswalk. Other than that, no issue in the rain. Snow was tricky. Upstate SC got hit an ice/snow storm early last month and did fine for the most part in 3-4 inches of snow. Slow speeds and 4x4 engaged. However, when driving through UT at the beginning of this year, we drove through Spanish Fork mountain range and lost traction going down the mountain with maybe an inch or two of snow. Granted I was hauling a CRV and didn’t have 4x4 engaged. I lost traction when downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear. Could’ve ended real bad but managed to get back on the road and regained traction.

All in all, it’s a great AT tire and I’m pleased with the wear. I’m probably due for a tire rotation and ideally get them rebalanced. By the looks of it, I’m just getting to that first large wear bar on the outer tread. At this rate, I’m hoping to get 55k+. Will likely check back in once I’m due for a tire change.

Highly recommend these tires if you want excellent off road capability while maintaining a comfortable ride on the road.

...On the highway between NY and NC they have respond well at high speeds and the noise is not a factor.

Very happy with these tires so far. I have them on a Ram 1500 quad cab and drive primarily on highway between NY and NC. I Also drive in deep snow conditions in New York during winter. These tires have been excellent on wet surfaces with no slip and they grip the road nicely on turns and curves. In 4 wheel drive for snow and ice I would rate them much better than the OEM tires that came with the truck. On the highway between NY and NC they have respond well at high speeds and the noise is not a factor.
