The ADVAN A052 is Yokohama's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for drivers who use their street-driven vehicles to participate in high-performance driving schools, autocross, and open track events and want Yokohama's highest level of DOT-approved performance. Like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, the ADVAN A052 is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The ADVAN A052 molds Yokohama's motorsports MS Compound into a track-ready, asymmetric tread design for extreme levels of grip. The low-void tread pattern features wide center ribs and an expansive outboard shoulder for maximum traction, and the rounded tread profile helps to evenly distribute pressure across the footprint, creating more contact with the road. Notches in the outboard micro groove improve cooling for added durability and consistency when used on the track. Two wide, circumferential grooves and the notched inboard shoulder help evacuate water from the tread pattern to enhance hydroplaning resistance.

A casing consisting of two plies of nylon cord supports two wide, steel belts beneath the tread and helps contribute to precise and responsive handling. Two spirally-wound, nylon reinforcement plies improve high-speed durability and further promote the steering response expected from a track-capable tire.

Important Care and Usage Instructions: Important Care and Usage Instructions: The ADVAN A052 was developed using high-performance compounds which become brittle at low temperatures, and therefore should not be used in certain conditions. ADVAN A052 tires thus must be stored or used only at temperatures at or above 14°F (-10°C) to maintain performance characteristics and to avoid any damage to the tire or injury to persons or property.

Yokohama ADVAN A052 Reviews

Reviews indicate the Yokohama ADVAN A052 excels in dry traction, with users highlighting exceptional grip, quick warm-up, and autocross/track dominance, often resulting in faster lap times. Wet performance is praised for confident handling in damp conditions, though hydroplaning occurs in standing water. Treadwear receives cautious notes-many report rapid wear under heavy track use, emphasizing alignment and pressure management to extend lifespan. While some achieve multiple heat cycles, the trade-off for extreme grip means shorter longevity, aligning with expectations for a tire prioritizing peak performance over durability.

...The other thing that is unintuitive about these tires is how good they are in the wet. Unless you hydroplane, the A052 is probably the best wet weather tire. Compare that to the stock Cup2's, which are a disaster in the wet - no confidence, no grip, and generally terrifying to drive on...

Years after release, and still the A052 is consistently the fastest tire in the Super 200TW classes. There's other that come close and perform perhaps marginally better in the optimal conditions for that specific set, but across the average of all days, conditions, and cars, the A052 remains the king.

The other thing that is unintuitive about these tires is how good they are in the wet. Unless you hydroplane, the A052 is probably the best wet weather tire. Compare that to the stock Cup2's, which are a disaster in the wet - no confidence, no grip, and generally terrifying to drive on.

Lastly, the A052s are surprisingly quiet and comfortable on the street. I've stepped down to 19" wheels, but since these have pretty relaxed side-walls, there isn't any additional NVH like you commonly get from track oriented tires. The only key thing you'll need to keep in mind is A052s do need significant camber, compared to an RE71, i'd add an extra 0.3-0.5 degrees of camber with all other factors equal.

...Surprisingly good traction in the rain - just need to be careful with standing water...

Great tire. Surprisingly good traction in the rain - just need to be careful with standing water. One of the go to autocross tires. My only issue so far is Tire Rack shipping tires with a 2 year old date code. This type of tire is very age sensitive and receiving 2 year old stock on a competition tire is disappointing. Tire Rack say the tires are stored in a climate controlled warehouse. I have no idea this is true. I do know 2 years is a long time for such a tire - people are usually throwing them out after 2 years.

Customers overwhelmingly praise the Yokohama ADVAN A052 for exceptional dry traction, with many scoring 9s and 10s. Reviewers highlight "insane grip," "predictable cornering," and rapid warm-up, making it a top choice for autocross and track days. While some note accelerated wear, most view it as a worthy trade-off for outstanding performance in extreme summer use.

Very pleased with this tire. My car is heavily modified and does double duty on the street and track. When compared to the Dunlop Direzza ZII s they replaced they have greater dry traction and steering response. I’m very happy with them on the track and have no complaints about street performance. Acceptable ride and road noise.

...The a052 comes up to temperature so quickly, half a run and you've got grip... you get a level of ultimate grip higher than my previous set...

I don't think I can purchase a different tire. The a052 comes up to temperature so quickly, half a run and you've got grip. Previous tire took 2-3 runs to get up to temperature. The respond positively to water spray between runs to keep overheating at bay. The ride is smooth and the sidewall not as stiff, so turn in is not as razor sharp, but you get a level of ultimate grip higher than my previous set. This matches well with my coilovers. Won my class first time using them. Couldn't be more satisfied! Thank you Tire Rack!

159 reviews mention "Treadwear"

  • 65 positive
  • 94 negative

Reviews highlight rapid treadwear, with many users disappointed in short lifespan. Multiple reports of tires wearing down to wear bars or cords after minimal track use, requiring early replacement. Some note the 200TW rating seems inaccurate, citing excessive wear and premature replacement needs, especially without aggressive camber settings.

bought 2) sets of 2. both sets llasted 10 & ( days. 1st set was 10 days not driven each of the 10 days , same for 2nd set that lasted 9 days, before patches of rubber came off exposing wire & losing air. these were never autocrossed- i've never raced in a prking lot or track. no 1/4 or 1/8 or any off road racing. each tie was 500$ even bought rims whe i purchased the 1st set. i contacted tire rack, same old overseas " Bob" tells You how sorry , but just cant do anything, even after asking same questions over and over. Yes I bought 2 sets , thinking that "ok" 1st set was a fluke . now I'll buy from a local store that wants business , not just running on an old and untrue pr campaign , where tire rack always takes care of their customers. tires are Pos's and so is Tire Rack , Your opinion may be different. 1st review.
