Evolving from the Proxes R888, the Proxes R888R is Toyo's Racetrack & Autocross Only tire for driving enthusiasts participating in track days, road racing and high-performance driver education events. Like all Racetrack & Autocross Only tires, Proxes R888R radials are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. It's also essential these tires be stored indoors at temperatures maintained above 15 degrees F.

Proxes R888R tires feature an R-compound tread that quickly reaches operating temperature and provides high grip levels for maximum cornering traction. The tread compound is molded into an aggressive, asymmetric tread pattern with massive outboard shoulder blocks to provide the lateral grip needed when driving on the track. Continual development of the contact patch gives the Proxes R888R greater levels of dry traction for improved braking, acceleration and cornering versus its predecessor.

While Proxes R888R radials meet D.O.T. requirements, they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions when shaved or worn where standing water is present and there is a risk of hydroplaning. Drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions.

Internal construction of the R888R features a two- or three-ply (depending on size) Rayon casing supporting two wide, high-tensile steel belts. A spirally-wound nylon reinforcement ply provides additional high-speed stability and durability.

Toyo Tires recommends the following general set-up guidelines for the Proxes R888R:

  • Operating Temperature: 160°-220° F
  • Hot Inflation Pressures: 32 to 38 PSI
  • Camber: -1° to -3°
  • Caster: As much positive as possible

Customers Say

Drivers find outstanding dry traction with track-ready grip, confident cornering, and predictable handling during aggressive driving. Wet performance raises significant concerns, with reports of hydroplaning and limited control even in light rain. Treadwear receives mixed feedback-some highlight resilience through multiple heat cycles and track sessions, while others note rapid wear during street use. The tire's performance trade-offs align with its competition focus, making it a top pick for dedicated track use despite noise and wet-weather limitations.

Awesome grip levels for my relatively light street-legal track car, 2700 lbs. The r888r's provide a deep well of potential with which to play for the chassis and suspension. I've broken several PB's on my local CA tracks, which I had previously set on Hoosier R6 and Kumho V710's. Did I really get that much better? Or are pricier mainstay slicks overrated now compared to this newer track-enthusiast style barely-DOT-legal tire? These tires are very grippy in a wide variety of conditions, working well on cold tracks during those first morning sessions, and are quick to warm, but very sensitive to alignment, and I dont mean factory specs. I mean an alignment adapted to how, and where you drive, coupled with a pyrometric confirmation of the settings therein. Get it right and they will last a very long time (in track miles/sessions) giving grip until the bitter, corded end. Get it wrong, and you'll blow through them in a weekend.

Extra tip: If the tires have worn and have any wear indicators close to becoming even with the rest of the tread, beware of roads with standing water! The hydroplaning that can happen with the tires near the end of their life can be extremely pucker inducing. If the road is banked enough to not have standing water however, the wet grip is still awesome.

Dry traction is excellent. Some have complained of the tires feeling greasy at high temps, my car just isn't heavy or fast enough to reach that point so they are great for me. Wet traction is far better than I expected but if there is any standing water you will want to avoid it. Only uses about 1-2/32 during a track day, but again my car is very light.

...Overall cornering grip is excellent, with good sensitivity to steering inputs.

Excellent and even wear for a 100 rated tire. My fastest laps in this particular car were done with lower tire pressures, around 28 psi cold. However, that increased the wear rate. There was also moderate front brake lockup, but that could also be influenced by front camber and pad compound. Overall cornering grip is excellent, with good sensitivity to steering inputs.

...With 100 tread wear, they do wear out quickly, but thats the price you pay for sticky track tires...

I drive a track prepped E46 330ci, this is the first time I bought a set of Toyo Proxy’s. I have only driven on dry tracks, so I cant comment on how they do on a wet track. I love these tires. The feedback I get is positive. With 100 tread wear, they do wear out quickly, but thats the price you pay for sticky track tires. I would definitely buy them again, which will be soon. Lol.

...Tire is very predictable and stable, wear seems even so far after 2 track days.

I purchased these so I could shake down a 944 spec car at a few DE events. Toyo recommends -1 to -3 degrees camber, and hot pressures in the range of 32-38 psi. My car is 2612 pounds, I run -3.5 degrees front -2.6 rear, start at 31.5 psi cold which brings the pressures up to 37-38 hot. Tire is very predictable and stable, wear seems even so far after 2 track days.

...The hook up better than PSC2's in wet conditions.

Underground racing twin turbo Lambo Gallardo Superleggera Stage 3 plus. (800-1350whp) I need sticky tires to hook up. These tires are nice but don't last more than 2000-2500 miles. Super expensive to run, if you need change out tires every other month. But I guess its part of the pay to play. The ---- in wet conditions, but hook up better than PSC2's.

These are amazing track tires. Even feel great just driving around town, though with a 100 treadwear rating, you don't want to do that much as you will use the up pretty fast.
Do NOT drive with them when it is wet. I had to drive in a mist the other day and it was scary. They are not meant for any wet pavement at all. They tell you that when you buy them and they mean it.
