Tires are designed specifically for different vehicles and wheel sizes. Tell us about your vehicle or the specific size you want so we can help find the right tires for you.

The ADVAN A048 is Yokohama's Streetable Track & Competition racing tire developed for drivers who participate in autocross competition, high-performance driving schools, lapping days and circuit-type club racing, as well as are Original Equipment (O.E.) on the Lotus Elise and Exige. The ADVAN A048 is designed to take Yokohama's advanced racing technology to a new level in DOT-approved tire performance by delivering precise control, sure-footed braking and predictable grip.

ADVAN A048 radials meet DOT requirements, however they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions.

Important Care And Usage Instructions: The ADVAN A048 was developed using high performance compounds which become brittle at low temperatures, and therefore should not be used in certain conditions. ADVAN A048 tires thus must be stored or used only at temperatures at or above 14°F (-10°C) to maintain performance characteristics and to avoid any damage to the tire or injury to persons or property.

The ADVAN A048 molds race-ready tread compound(s) (offering Medium or Medium-Hard choices in many sizes) that can be used to match the tire's capabilities to vehicle weight and performance, as well as track conditions and ambient temperatures. It features a "single block" tread design that increases tread stiffness and features a wide center area that stays in continuous contact with the track to enhance cornering stability, on-center feel and steering response. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon cap plies and belt edge strips. The belt package is placed on top of a rounded casing design that allows the tire to predictably handle transitions from straight-line travel to high g-force cornering and back.

ADVAN A048 tires are molded with 6/32" of tread depth in their grooves and are left unshaved for use on damp tracks. We suggest shaving ADVAN A048 tires to approximately 4/32" of tread depth to begin competitive road racing/track use in dry conditions. The ADVAN A048's directional tread design and symmetric internal construction allows remounting partially worn tires inside-out on their wheels to help prolong their life.

Warning: ADVAN A048 radials meet DOT requirements, however they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions. This is especially true of shaved or worn tires. And like other Streetable Track & Competition tires, these tires are not intended to be stored, serviced nor driven in near- or below freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Customers Say

Customers say the Yokohama ADVAN A048 delivers exceptional dry traction with sharp steering response, confident cornering, and strong braking performance, making it a favorite for track days and autocross. Wet traction receives mixed feedback-some report predictable handling in light rain, while others note reduced grip in standing water or cold conditions. Treadwear concerns are common, with many users observing significant wear after 4-6 track sessions, though a few highlight achieving 5,000-7,000 miles when mixing limited street use with events. While heat cycling and rapid performance drop-off raise durability questions, enthusiasts praise its track-focused capabilities despite trade-offs in longevity.

...The tire is aawsome tire for sport/race ride on dry conditions... Grip during acceleration/cornering on dry is awsome. Precision steering seems to be the best i ever had...

I just bought these tires , and the first impression is: The tire is aawsome tire for sport/race ride on dry conditions . Here on Brazil , streets tarmac are not very stable on irregularites ,tires seems to be a litte noisy , but this is aceptable on race tires . Grip during acceleration/cornering on dry is awsome. Precision steering seems to be the best i ever had. The car is front Wheel drive ,turbocharged with 300hp class. Overall handling has been improved besides my old tires ( Toyo´s T1 R ) on dry .

On wet , i drive real smooth ,resistance on hydroplaning is reduced by thread design . If you want to race on dry conditions , with all performance avaliable ,these are the best set avaliable. Hope it last more than people talks arround here.

A huge improvement over the All-Season I have been auto-crossing on, which is to be expected. The turn in and steering response you get from these is amazing. I had a huge smile on my face during my first run because of the massive amount of grip I had at my disposal. No more do I have to wait for the car to react to any of my inputs. If you are thinking of making the switch from all-seasons/summer tires to R-Comps, do it, you won't regret it.

If you don't plan on tracking/auto-crossing these tires, it is a waste of money. You have to fight the steering wheel to go in a straight line because these pull on every pothole and pavement seam you drive over, there is a pronounced tire hum, and the incredibly stiff sidewalls don't bode well for the ride quality or your wheels. Save the money and get some all-seasons/summer tires instead.

...The cornering traction was simply unbelievable. Braking distance greatly reduced...

I bought the AO48s for track use only, and they exceeded my expectations on the track in every way. The steering responsiveness was far better then any other tire Ive used. The cornering traction was simply unbelievable. Braking distance greatly reduced.

These tires are not for highway use. They are very, very loud at all speeds. I would recommend a harder compound for any extended lapping. I noted significant wear in four 25 minute sessions on the track. For autocross use they are ideal, and I would highly recommend them.

...My experiences in the rain/cold with these havent been so great yet... 40-46 PSI in the cold and wet during autoX and I slide around a bit...

This is my first time with R comps so I am still learning.

These are AWESOME when they warm up in the dry!!!!!

My experiences in the rain/cold with these havent been so great yet.

Most likely because I havent set them to the correct pressure.

I run about 32-38 PSI for DE/track events and that worked just fine.

40-46 PSI in the cold and wet during autoX and I still slide around a bit.

I am still quite pleased overall and I would most def. buy these again for my DE events!

AutoX wise, I cant really say yet because I am still learning which PSI setting works best for them.

GL with your purchase!

  • 48 negative

Customers report mixed treadwear experiences, with scores between 7-8 for track durability through multiple heat cycles and autocross events, though some note rapid grip drop-off after 8 track days. Daily drivers highlight 7,000+ mile lifespan, while competitive users cite expected short tread life as a trade-off for peak performance.

...I have removed them with 1/2 of the tread left and gone back to Michelins...

Prior to purchasing the A048s I had Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on the car. When I purchased the A048's, I was hoping to find a nice balance for autocross, track days, and occasional street driving. Compared to the Cups, the Yoks were markedly inferior in grip on both autocross and track days, and the road noise is positively unbearable. The worst part is the tendency for these tires to try to follow groves in the road, which makes the car quite unsuitable to drive on the street, and downright scary! They also howl loudly when pushed to the limit on the track, which is rather embarrasing. I have removed them with 1/2 of the tread left and gone back to Michelins. It is amazing that Michelin has created a tire that performs so well on the track but is civilized as an everyday tire- minimal road noise as well. Definitely consider the Cups prior to buying A048s.

...These are by far the hardest R compound tires I ever had... and wear quickly...

Bought these tires for autocross and summer street use on my Mini Cooper S. These are by far the hardest R compound tires I ever had. They don't have that glued to the pavement feel and are quite loud and wear quickly. Steer clear of these if you ever want to win an Autocross again.
