The Trail-Terrain T/A is BFGoodrich's On-Road All-Terrain tire developed for drivers of crossovers and SUVs, Jeeps and pickup trucks who want a tire that is comfortable and capable on-road, but is also adventure-ready when they need it. Engineered to provide traction in dry, wet and loose surface conditions, the Trail-Terrain T/A features light snow traction sufficient to earn the tire industry's severe snow service certification and three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

The advanced all-season tread compound is engineered to resist chipping and tearing for occasional gravel and off-road use as well as provide dry, wet and wintry condition performance on-road. An optimized footprint helps distribute contact patch pressure to promote even tread wear and features closed shoulder elements to minimize airborne noise. The capable tread pattern features aggressive biting edges and generous void space on the inboard elements for powerful traction in loose surfaces and efficient hydroplaning resistance. Full-depth 3D sipes generate traction in slippery conditions like on wet and icy roads and help produce light snow traction that meets the tire industry's severe snow service requirements.

Internal Construction of the Trail-Terrain T/A consists of a robust, two-ply polyester casing engineered to provide comfort and reliability while maintaining a higher level of durability for occasional off-road use. Twin steel belts are wrapped with a single, nylon reinforcement ply to form a strong foundation with high-speed capabilities.

Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.

Related Information: What is the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol (3PMSF)?

Customers Say

Feedback consistently shows the BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A excels in dry traction (9-10 scores dominate) with responsive handling and stability, backed by strong wet performance including reliable hydroplaning resistance. Winter traction earns praise for confident grip in snow and slush, though ice scores show more variability. Riders highlight a smooth, quiet experience (8-10 comfort/noise ratings) that balances rugged capability with on-road refinement. Treadwear ratings (8-10) suggest durable performance for an all-terrain tire. ...Much better on wet roads...

Great tire when compared to the stock goodyears. Much better on wet roads. Does pick up small gravel and will reduce gas mileage slightly. I would trade gas mileage for traction, everytime. Too early to comment on tire wear/snow traction, but I'm confident in the BF goodrich name.

...Dead silent, handles great on road, great wet traction and even does well in decent snow as well...

Great all around tire for someone looking to add an AT to their SUV and truck but not with the sound and knobby tread of a true off-road AT. Dead silent, handles great on road, great wet traction and even does well in decent snow as well. They earned their engineering budget with these, no compromises as long as you're understanding they're not meant to be a true off-road capable AT.

...Great in the snow and definitely happy how they performed through several storms in the mountains on ski trips...

Having gotten them at the beginning of last year's winter, and after 8,000 miles or so in Colorado through snow, rain, mild off-road, and mountain highway driving, the BF Goodrich All-Terrains were an excellent choice. Great in the snow and definitely happy how they performed through several storms in the mountains on ski trips. I was somewhat concerned about noise, as the tread looks rather aggressive, but my fears were unfounded. They're no more noisy than the previous Continental True Contact Tour tires I had mounted on the factory wheels. Also surprising is grip on dry roads. Quite good even when pushed hard. All in all a good compromise for mild off road and great in the snow.

...While I don't necessarily do much/any "off-road" driving, I live in a cold climate with snow, so trust they'll be helpful this upcoming winter...

I'm less than 100 miles into these, but am overall really impressed. I wanted something for my F150 that looked a little more aggressive, but still provided a smooth ride. The BFG Trail Terrains delivered on both accounts. Love the way they look, especially the white lettering, and I could instantly feel a smoother/better ride than my old Hankook tires (about 30k miles on those). They seem to grip the road really well. While I don't necessarily do much/any "off-road" driving, I live in a cold climate with snow, so trust they'll be helpful this upcoming winter. As for looks, at my tire size (275/55R20) there wasn't many options with white letters, so i was happy to get these on my truck, which i think look awesome. The only minute/miniscule thing I could point out to the negative would be more noise than I'm used to hearing. That said, I'm usually cranking some music in my truck, so am completely oblivious 99.9% of the time. Not an issue for me at all.

...The dry traction, mainly on the road, is nothing short of exceptional (bearing in mind this is not a performance tire.) Straight acceleration, braking, and cornering, even under a load (towing a trailer), are all great. The ONLY shortcoming of dry traction is when I am trying to pull out quickly into moving traffic and I am also turning...

As a road-going, and off-roading tire, the Trail-Terrain T/A does its job. Normal street driving is what this tire sees the most. Under the combined stresses of highway and city traffic, different weather conditions, towing, hard cornering and braking, and of course, off-roading, there still isn't much I have to say that isn't outstandingly positive thus far. The dry traction, mainly on the road, is nothing short of exceptional (bearing in mind this is not a performance tire.) Straight acceleration, braking, and cornering, even under a load (towing a trailer), are all great.
The ONLY shortcoming of dry traction is when I am trying to pull out quickly into moving traffic and I am also turning. My front-wheel drive car hops around briefly for traction, which no doubt loses me some valuable speed and time I could have used to join traffic. My car is not very powerful and didn't have this issue with the much more street-oriented Continental Pro-Contact tires I had before. This hasn't compromised my safety, or anyone else's, but it is worth noting.
Aside from that minor flaw, this tire is very well-rounded. When searching for an all-terrain type tire, you most likely aren't looking for outstanding cornering and amazing grip even when the gas pedal is to the floor.
I am unstoppable when it's raining. The massive amount of tread means that no puddles, wash-outs, or even downpours can hinder my driving. Hydroplaning has met its match.
The amount of tread really is massive, especially for a Mazda 3 sedan. I am almost 10k miles into these tires and the tread rises vast millimeters above the wear line.
Not like I should care given what car I drive, but for what it's worth, the off-road performance is all I could have asked for. Rocks, gravel, sand, and dirt are the strong suit of this tire. Just don't add too much water. These aren't mudders, don't ask me how I know.
As for ice and snow, they are very capable. I'll update this page as I drive more.
Happy driving!

...With these new BFGs, when I'm spiritedly crossing a tight intersection, traction is very good - no squealing, bouncing, or harsh jarring as the tires grab the road. There is traction with the pavement at all times even if the tires happen to spin...

I just bought these, they look awesome with the white letters on my black truck. Switching from Cooper brand ATs, these are better by far. Used to hear and feel every flaw or crack in the road and the ride seemed jarring or harsh. With these new BFGs, when I'm spiritedly crossing a tight intersection, traction is very good - no squealing, bouncing, or harsh jarring as the tires grab the road. There is traction with the pavement at all times even if the tires happen to spin. My older Coopers would just break traction and bounce the back of the truck kicking the factory locker in and out of lock. These TrailTerrains are quieter, seem more grounded and in control. They don't jar the truck with every little pot hole or bridge transition. The wife has noticed a big improvement in the ride quality and overall feel of the truck with these new tires. Perhaps I can update this review after a Wyoming off-road hunting trip in the next month.

...They're comfortable and quiet...

I put these tires on my 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk at the suggestion of my local tire guy instead of a set of Firestone Destination A/T 2s. I trust him and he had them in stock at a good price, plus, BFG had a satisfaction guarantee on them at the time (not sure if they still do). I must say, I'm not disappointed at all.

The only concern I had was wet traction (based on TR's in-house review/testing), but I've had the opportunity to drive them in everything from sustained drizzle to torrential downpour, and I have no complaints. Wet traction has been just fine.

They're comfortable and quiet. I'd buy them again, depending on price and availability.

...Normal driving around town and highway, the tries are pleasant, these are somewhat an aggressive tire tread, very small amount of road noise is present, they are not as quite as highway tires, but the noise is minimal they do not sing like the old Mud and Snow tires with aggressive tread...

I have owned BF Goodrich tires in the past and have not had a problem. The tires are on Ram 1500 short bed 4WD with 5.7L, (OEM tire Goodyear Wranglers), traction means everything. The BF tires are of same quality as what I have owned before. I have good traction in the rain, and anyone who owns a pickup understands taking off from a red light in the rain. With these tires I do not get the spinning while trying to accelerate from the light. During highway driving in the rain, hydroplaning is not noticed.

I have had the opportunity to use these on the beach, in the sand, I did not need to air down, had plenty of traction of course in 4WD.

Normal driving around town and highway, the tries are pleasant, these are somewhat an aggressive tire tread, very small amount of road noise is present, they are not as quite as highway tires, but the noise is minimal they do not sing like the old Mud and Snow tires with aggressive tread.

Overall I will purchase these tire again if and when need.
