The Trail-Terrain T/A is BFGoodrich's On-Road All-Terrain tire developed for drivers of crossovers and SUVs, Jeeps and pickup trucks who want a tire that is comfortable and capable on-road, but is also adventure-ready when they need it. Engineered to provide traction in dry, wet and loose surface conditions, the Trail-Terrain T/A features light snow traction sufficient to earn the tire industry's severe snow service certification and three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.
The advanced all-season tread compound is engineered to resist chipping and tearing for occasional gravel and off-road use as well as provide dry, wet and wintry condition performance on-road. An optimized footprint helps distribute contact patch pressure to promote even tread wear and features closed shoulder elements to minimize airborne noise. The capable tread pattern features aggressive biting edges and generous void space on the inboard elements for powerful traction in loose surfaces and efficient hydroplaning resistance. Full-depth 3D sipes generate traction in slippery conditions like on wet and icy roads and help produce light snow traction that meets the tire industry's severe snow service requirements.
Internal Construction of the Trail-Terrain T/A consists of a robust, two-ply polyester casing engineered to provide comfort and reliability while maintaining a higher level of durability for occasional off-road use. Twin steel belts are wrapped with a single, nylon reinforcement ply to form a strong foundation with high-speed capabilities.
Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.

Popular Tires for America's Most Popular Vehicles – 2025 Test 8 - With Winter Update(39:51)
The Crossover, or CUV, is hands-down the most popular vehicle in America. Last year in our CUV test, we used the Alfa Romeo Stelvio to test all-season and all-weather touring tires. This year, the field expanded to include all-terrain and performance truck products, representing the full range of tires drivers are installing on these vehicles. Obviously, with a test this diverse, it’s not so much about which one tire rises to the top, but rather how each category brings its own strengths to the table. When comparing multiple tires from one category, it's how they stack up against each other. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy Test 8!
Feedback patterns show the Michelin Defender LTX M/S excels in treadwear, with many ratings in the 9-10 range highlighting long-lasting performance. Comfort receives strong praise for a smooth, quiet ride, supported by consistent 8-10 scores for reduced noise and vibration. Winter traction earns positive marks in snow and slush, though ice traction shows occasional 7-8 scores, reflecting typical all-season limitations. Wet traction stands out with near-perfect hydroplaning resistance and grip, scoring 9-10 across most ratings. Dry traction delivers confident handling and stability, with nearly universal 9-10 scores for responsive steering and cornering. Drivers report high satisfaction across all categories, aligning well with its highway-focused all-season design.

I needed better wet weather performance and these tires deliver. Wheel spin on acceleration has all but disappeared. I also appreciate the less aggressive tread design which makes them very quiet.

...Quiet, good performance, and although they're all season freeway tires they do excellent in deep snow with 4x4 on.
Great tires, which is no surprise coming from Michelin. Quiet, good performance, and although they’re all season freeway tires they do excellent in deep snow with 4x4 on.

...Good all-around snow performance in Minnesota...
Fantastic all season SUV tire. Good all-around snow performance in Minnesota. Too bad they do not make this exact tire anymore. Rotated religiously but getting close to requiring new tires at 52K, short of the 70K warranty, but not bad considering that warranties are pro-rated.

...The wet traction is excellent, the dry traction is excellent, and the handling cannot be beat...
This is my second set of these exact tires. I have wide 20-in rims on my truck, these tires fill out the rim, and have a profile that I like. The wet traction is excellent, the dry traction is excellent, and the handling cannot be beat. Excellent ride, too. Buy a set.

...I installed these tires on my Explorer ST and immediately, noticed a huge difference between these and the Continentals that came from the factory. They are smooth, quiet and handle confidently. They react wonderfully...
Disclaimers: I do not use these tires in the winter or deep snow as I have Nokian Winter tires for this truck. I do not off road with this truck. That all being said, I DO tow a trailer (a heavy one) and I do drive extensively on the highway as well as typical city driving. This vehicle is driven primarily by a family member who drives notoriously "normal" and does not go off the road. I installed these tires on my Explorer ST and immediately, noticed a huge difference between these and the Continentals that came from the factory. They are smooth, quiet and handle confidently. They react wonderfully and provide excellent resistance to hydroplaning on the highway and have great stopping. For you vehicle technicians......These things road-force balanced the first time on all 4 wheels. Circumference was equal +/- 1/16" and installed very easily on 8" wheels. They wear evenly and maintain sidewall integrity. They do stiffen up with more air pressure for towing but still handle very well and ride comfortably. They DO NOT feel like LT tires at all at ANY pressure level. These are very expensive tires, but well worth the investment! They add a layer of safety and security that I truly expect from Michelin and at a cost consistent with the performance and durability.

Customers overwhelmingly praise the Michelin Defender LTX M/S for exceptional comfort, with most scoring 9s and 10s in ride quality and noise levels. Smooth ride and quiet operation make it a top choice for refined highway driving, with occasional 7s and 8s still reflecting strong performance.

...The handling, ride, and low noise level is superior...
These came on my truck. The tires wore very evenly and lasted 70,000m with a bit more to go. Since they are 7 years old, though, it's time to replace and get some fresh ones. The handling, ride, and low noise level is superior. I'm going to pay a little more and replace with the same ..or the M/S2 version.
