Bridgestone  Ecopia EP422 Plus

I am comparing these tires to the Bridgestone Turanza EL400 which came stock on my Prius C. The Turanza were reliable and suited my needs, but seemed pretty average. The Ecopia tires are noticeably quieter with better traction in wet conditions. I stick with the posted speed limit in the rain and can tell you it is hard to feel the difference between wet and dry when you are driving like a sane person with these tires. It feels a little like the road is made of memory foam and you are just gliding along. Fuel efficiency is fine, I haven't crunched the numbers, but it is a little better than my former tires. FYI, Prius C runs awesome on Top Tier gasoline!I can only hope that the tread wears well. Hats off to Bridgestone, folks!

Took some practice not spinning the tires on wet roads turning from a stop in a Golf 1.8T. Any wet/snow and the traction was not good.

I purchased these tires for a 2005 Toyota Camry due to the close-out pricing, but the ratings as stated were encouraging and sealed the deal. This is an older vehicle, but I maintain it well - new KYB shocks with OE springs and strut mounts, properly aligned, with all suspension and steering components being replaced as required with top-end or OE components and regularly inspected and lubricated as needed by me at oil change intervals and tire rotations. I also have front top and lower aftermarket strut bars to enhance handling capabilities of the sedan. Keep this in mind when reading other reviews for these tires: does the person actually have bad tires, or do they fail to maintain their vehicle properly?

These tires grip extremely well and I am unable to make the tires "squeal" rounding corners or turns regardless of speed. They remain firmly planted and the driving feel of the road is actually quite enjoyable. Despite being grippy, I would expect them to be soft and wear quickly, but so far at around 7500 miles into them, they are hardly wearing at all. The road noise on city and interstate travel is minimal at worst. Steering and handling is responsive.

I do live in a desert, however, so my driving conditions are nearly always dry with no snow. If and when I am able to drive them in wet conditions, I will consider an update, and I will monitor tire wear are mileage markers. However: if your car is reasonably well maintained, then I believe these tires are worth the money.

These came as the OEM tire on the 2018 e-Golf. The dry traction is mediocre, but acceptable for a low rolling resistance tire. The wet traction is absolutely rubbish. We don't drive the e-Golf in the snow, and wouldn't with these tires given the wet performance. I don't know if it's the pairing with the electric motor which delivers maximum torque from a stop, but they lose traction very easily when going up hills and starting from a stop. Likewise, braking in the wet very easily engages ABS. I've even had them lose traction when going over road paint (cross walks) and manhole covers while on mild regen only - this disengages regen abruptly, which makes the care feel like it's suddenly accelerating, a bit unsettling. Handling is predictable, not particularly good, but no surprises. Noise levels seem good. Now that the rains are back here in Portland, OR, I've been reminded of how they make me hate driving the car in foul weather. Will replace well before they are worn out for safety reasons, which feels very un-eco. Maybe they'd be fine for dry/flat regions, but not here.

Decent-to-good dry traction, fair wet traction, and terrible snow and ice traction. (Pretty much what you'd expect from a middle-of-the-road All Season tire.) They're slightly loud, but not terrible. Excellent handling. They spin a little easily when the turbo kicks in if there's any kind of sand on the road. Comparable with the Conti TrueContacts and Uniroyal Tiger Paws I've used, but not even close to the Michelin Cross Climate 2 or Defender 2 in any conditions.

My biggest problem with the Ecopias is treadwear. These were OEM on my 2019 Jetta, and at 29,000mi (on the dot) they are down to 2/32" tread. That is completely unacceptable for a 70k mile tire, but according to my VW dealer this is very common for this tire. Disappointing...but this just means I can put a better tire on sooner I guess. (Hey...I'm trying to make lemonade here.) There was no rush to get them off as they were totally serviceable while they lasted, but I also won't look back once I can get rid of these.

My new Jetta 1.4L Turbo came with them. I had to drive 1000 miles after driving in town and highway for 3600 miles. At 65 miles per hour, my odometer registered 630 mile per tank. ( 13 gallons input). The tires were very satisfactory in all instances. Little noise, very stable on the road, tarmac or concrete, great comfort. Steering was precise, and steady. For the price, the tire is a GREAT buy. I have bought Michelin, Continental, Nitto, and find the tread and the temperature of the tire to be very good for the price.

I was concerned with replacing the OEM low-rolling resistance tires with a tire that might reduce this little car's excellent fuel economy. We hated the OEM tires for noise, ride, and treadwear. We were pleasantly surprised by the Ecopia. The fuel economy improved slightly. But the tire noise went away completely. The ride quality improved immensely (like tightening every bolt in the car). The car corners a bit better and the overall feel of control on the road is much improved. While it has nothing to do with performance, there is another small characteristic that we like. The tires remain "black" when the car is washed rather than turning a sort of dirty brown/grey like the OEM tires had done. Not a big deal, but the car is black, and the brownish looking tires were ugly. I know you don't buy tires for looks, but in this case, it is a very real improvement. The tires seem to be wearing well, in fact, the outer portion of the treads still have their little moulding " tips. Overall, we are well impressed by these tires. The car is my wife's, and she seldom mentions anything about the car unless something is wrong. In this case, however, she actually made it a point to tell me that she really liked the way her car drives now. That is about as eloquent of an endorsement as I can provide.

The OE tire was the Michelin Energy Saver A/S which was driven for 48k miles and changed with 4/32 tread left due to ever increasing tire noise at high speeds as the miles accumulated.

I now have over 15k on the 422 Plus tires. The 422s are inflated to around 48/50 psi. I would rate the 422s better in ride quality, tread wear, and road noise level than the Michelins. The Michelins were a harsher riding tire when I inflated them to 48/50 psi. The 422s "absorb" much of the road irregularities. In order to get the similar ride quality with the Michelins, I had to run them at no more than 42/44 psi. As far as tread wear, I keep track of my tread depth every 5k miles or so. The 422s have lost about 1/32 less tread than the Michelins at 15 k miles which means they should last longer.

I would rate the Michelins better in overall handling. The difference is that in higher speed cornering and steering response, the 422s are worse. It seems there is a lag in the response of the 422s to sharper, higher speed urns. As far as wet / dry traction and braking, both were adequate and similar.

With respect to fuel economy (both are LRR tires and tout fuel savings), I noticed no change in fuel economy after I put the 422s on. This may indicate that the 422s are more fuel efficient, that the higher noise level was an indication of increasing forces on the Michelins perhaps due to some uneven tire wear as the tires aged, and/or perhaps rolling resistance of the 422s was lowered with the increased tire pressure.

For OEM tires these are very good. Traction on both wet and dry pavement can be improved. For snow they do as well an any all season tire, so poorly. Threadwear is very good. At 56k they look like they have another 20000 miles left.

These were the stock low rolling resistance tires equipped on my 2016 Mazda3. They've helped me get great mileage and they've worn well; they gave me a solid 50,000 miles in mixed highway and city driving and helped me get a combined 36mpg over that period. That said, they lack traction in wet weather and are basically impossible to use in the snow. My car is not very powerful and I don't gun it at stop lights, but I can easily (unintentionally) engage traction control when accelerating from a dead stop when the roads are wet. They're among the worst tires I've ever used in the snow.

In short, get a different set of tires. Other manufacturers make low rolling resistance tires, if that's what you're looking for, and there are several grand touring options better than this one.

These tires were original equipment on my Mazda 3 hatchback. They didn't even make it 30k miles from the factory without wearing out. These tires were absolutely dreadful for living in New England. Wet traction was subpar at best. It would not take much throttle response to get them to break loose at a stop. They also hydroplaned extremely easily on the highway.

Winter? No. Do not attempt. 1/3 of an inch of snow will render these tires woefully inept. I ended up buying a set of snow tires instead.

I didn't see any mileage gain, in fact, I got better mileage after replacing these tires with non LRR tires.

These are likely the least capable tires I have ever owned, and I would be extremely hesitant to buy the Bridgestone brand again.

As I have found on most Dealer/manufacturer standard tires these are just passable; maybe a lowest common denominator tire. Poor, if not terrible, in snow. Does not provide expected mileage. 16k miles and 2 tires where down to the wear bars, the other 2 just above (maybe 4-5/32). Rotated twice. These never performed well in any kind of snow/slush proving a large amount of sliding and front end push. Wet ride was Fair/passable. Dry was decent enough. Certainly not a Colorado weather tire, would hate to think about having them in northern states.

Tires have barely reached 30K miles and are already due for replacement. Wet and snow driving has been unacceptable. This is my first experience with Brigestone Would not buy anything from them again.
