The Pilot Sport 4S is Michelin's Max Performance Summer tire developed in cooperation with some of the most demanding vehicle manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche to utilize key technologies engineered during competition in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was designed for serious drivers looking to maximize the performance potential of their sports cars, performance sedans and powerful luxury vehicles. The Pilot Sport 4S excels in warm dry and wet conditions, so like all Max Performance Summer tires, is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Premium Touch LogoSelect sizes of the Pilot Sport 4S are available with Michelin's Premium Touch sidewall treatment. This velvet-effect checkered sidewall is created using cutting-edge laser technology and is designed to enhance the vehicle's visual presence. These sizes are identified on the "Specs" page and in the search results.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4SThe asymmetric tread pattern of the Pilot Sport 4S features side-by-side, 24 Hours of Le Mans-derived compounds. The low-void outer shoulder utilizes a new dry-focused hybrid tread rubber for improved dry handling and braking over the previous generation tire, while the center ribs and inboard shoulder feature a silica-infused wet compound designed to increase wet braking performance. The computer-modeled Variable Contact Patch 3.0 optimizes pressure distribution across the contact patch through turns, reducing hot spots and improving tire life during aggressive use.

Internal construction of the Pilot Sport 4S features twin steel belts reinforced by a spirally wound hybrid reinforcement. This hybrid Aramid and nylon belt offers a lightweight, high-strength reinforcement above the steel belts to enhance high-speed handling, wear and durability. Specifically tuning the application of the cord filament provides Michelin engineers the ability to balance tension and strength, and a single-ply, polyester cord casing balances trade-offs between ride quality and responsive handling.

Limited sizes of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are available with Michelin Acoustic Technology, which involves the manufacturer adhering a layer of sound-absorbing foam to the inner liner of the tire to reduce cabin noise in the vehicle. These sizes are identified on the Specs page and in the search results.

Select original equipment sizes of the Pilot Sport 4S utilize the Michelin Connected Tire System in conjunction with Michelin Acoustic Technology and can be identified by the specific Acoustic and Bluetooth logos on the tire's sidewall. These tires contain the sound-absorbing foam as well as a sensor designed to communicate specific data about the tire to the vehicle's built-in systems.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

*Specific sizes utilizing Michelin Total Performance eco-focused manufacturing methods are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Customers Say

Customer surveys indicate the Continental ContiProContact delivers a comfortable ride with low noise levels, earning consistent praise in these areas. However, treadwear scores show mixed results, with some customers noting rapid wear or disappointing tread life. Winter traction raises concerns, particularly on ice and in deeper snow, where ratings dip below expectations. Wet traction performs reliably with good hydroplaning resistance, while dry traction receives solid marks for confident handling. As a grand touring all-season tire, it balances everyday comfort and wet/dry performance but falls short in harsh winter conditions and long-term tread durability for some drivers.

...This ContinentalProContact has amazing on the ice to my surprise. Granted this sedan is Mercedes 4 Matic all wheel drive but on solid unsalted and sanded ice, the 2.5 ton beast didn't show ANY signs of slippage on regular city roads...

Just picked up my 2014 New Black/Black E 550 4Matic Sports Mercedes from Park Place Dallas. have 2603 miles on it and here in Dallas, we just had one of the worst Ice Storms in years (from Dec. 6-Dec 9) with temperatures still below zero. This ContinentalProContact has amazing on the ice to my surprise. Granted this sedan is Mercedes 4 Matic all wheel drive but on solid unsalted and sanded ice, the 2.5 ton beast didn't show ANY signs of slippage on regular city roads. Id did take it from Irving Texas where I live to the Whole Foods Market at Lomo Alto and the Dallas Tollway on December 7th, 2013 and as I crossed the 1/4 mile of suspended FROZEN roadway bridge connecting Irving to Dallas and traversing the Trinity River Basen, the Continental Pro Contacts didn't flinch. I was traveling over 30 miles and hour too over this bridge in the far left lane (as most drivers were doing like 3 mph in the right lane SINGLE FILE)...I simply can't drive that fast EVER..so I flew over this bridge which by the way, was COMPLETELY COVERED with what I call Cobblestone Ice (Chunks of Ice that have dislodged from the wheel wells of tractor trailers and cars and then packed down unevenly resembling cobble stones of solid ice) As I traveled over all these ice chunks at 30 MPH, the suspenstion and these amazing tires maintained a straight linear direction without ANY sign of waiver. Granted this $78,000.00 Benz has every safety feature known to the auto industry including Electronic Stability Control but NONE of these devises were activated (no yellow triangle on the dash) as I flew over this treacherous bidge. I did have white knuckles when I finally reached the other side but I'm a firm believer that with all 800 side edge notches and wide groves along the circumference of each Continental Pro Contact tire, the feat was really fun and I've developed alot of confidence with these tires. Perhaps the other drivers thought I was nuts flying over that icy bridge; tires were AWESOME!!!

...I live in a rainy climate and I found they handle wet highway driving and hydroplaning very well...

These tires cam OEM on my Golf, I bought the car 2 years old with 17000 km on it. The tires were ready for replacement at 70000km so basically they lasted 4 years on the road.
I live in a rainy climate and I found they handle wet highway driving and hydroplaning very well.

When my car was at 35000km I had to drive approximately 80km a day in wet snow on the highway, and found them to handle far better than expected. They're obviously no the very best performing tire out there but overall I had no issues whatsover with quality.

Not one puncture in 2 years, and now at 70000km they are being replaced for another set.

Overall, for the price they are a good, comparable all season and I am quite happy with them.

...Prius's torque can make its wheels spin from standstill. The Contis prevent the spinning on dry surfaces most of the time...

These replaced oem Bridgestone's, which were terrible by all measures. Prius's torque can make its wheels spin from standstill. The Contis prevent the spinning on dry surfaces most of the time. Light winters so far, but still much better and surer traction in shallow snow. Will test this morning on slushy icey roads. These are not quiet tires, especially on a thinly insulated Prius. Otherwise, performance is just fine. Unless a much better tire comes along, I expect that I will buy these again in about another 20-30k miles!

...Dry grip and cornering are very, very good, especially for low-resistance rolling tread...

These tires came with the car, I didn't pay for them. As stock tires, they are acceptable but not overly impressive. Dry grip and cornering are very, very good, especially for low-resistance rolling tread. However, the tread is not without compromise as the wet grip (especially on roads that are only coated with moisture) is sub-standard for low-profile tires. I do drive aggressively, but even slowing down in wet conditions, I often find my car slipping and sliding at intersections. Looking to upgrade to Conti ExtremeContact sports when the tread on these eventually wears off, which might take awhile. Overall, the value of these tires is fairly good, and Continental makes quality products. If you drive conservatively and are looking for value and any measure of a fuel economy boost, these tires are worth considering.

Lasted a lot longer than I expected, considering past experiences with Continentals. They're comfortable-riding. Sidewalls started sagging at about 30,000, so the edges wore faster than the center of the tread, but most tires do that. Overall, I'm happy.

...Unfortunately, these tires are just about useless in the snow with only 16,000 miles on them. They provide little to no grip especially when cornering or going up hill. These were the factory tire that came with my '13 Focus. They provide excellent grip in the dry especially in warmer weather. In the cold, they warm up in a reasonable amount of time. The cornering stability is very good in dry conditions. They are average in the wet. I've not experienced any hydroplaning. Unfortunately, these tires are just about useless in the snow with only 16,000 miles on them. They provide little to no grip especially when cornering or going up hill. I've driven several vehicles in heavy snow, both 4WD and FWD, and I've never experienced the lack of grip that these tires provide even in light snow. These tires have been virtually useless in the snow. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a replacement tire.

These are the OEM tires on my 09 Milan. I was only able to get to 40,000 miles on these tires, and they are now in desperate need of replacement. For the first 15k miles or so the tires had good wet traction, but it has fallen off significantly since that time. The tires now easily spin when accelerating on all road surfaces when it is raining, and cornering has to be done at a near stop. These tires have been virtually useless in the snow. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a replacement tire.

I have followed all manufacturer recommended maintenance and at my 12k service my front drive tires were at 2/32nds and dealer said I needed to change them out while the back tires were at 7/32nds. They implied it was due to my driving habits. I bought a diesel car for MPG! Otherwise I woudl have bought a GTI or gone with something else entirely. I currently have these bald eagles on the back and waiting to figure out if the dealer or VW is going to help me out at all.

I would not buy these tires ever again and would strongly discourage anyone else for that matter. Check other reviews too. There are a number of people who are reporting sub 15k miles on these tires and needing to replace!
