The Pilot Sport 4S is Michelin's Max Performance Summer tire developed in cooperation with some of the most demanding vehicle manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche to utilize key technologies engineered during competition in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was designed for serious drivers looking to maximize the performance potential of their sports cars, performance sedans and powerful luxury vehicles. The Pilot Sport 4S excels in warm dry and wet conditions, so like all Max Performance Summer tires, is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Premium Touch LogoSelect sizes of the Pilot Sport 4S are available with Michelin's Premium Touch sidewall treatment. This velvet-effect checkered sidewall is created using cutting-edge laser technology and is designed to enhance the vehicle's visual presence. These sizes are identified on the "Specs" page and in the search results.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4SThe asymmetric tread pattern of the Pilot Sport 4S features side-by-side, 24 Hours of Le Mans-derived compounds. The low-void outer shoulder utilizes a new dry-focused hybrid tread rubber for improved dry handling and braking over the previous generation tire, while the center ribs and inboard shoulder feature a silica-infused wet compound designed to increase wet braking performance. The computer-modeled Variable Contact Patch 3.0 optimizes pressure distribution across the contact patch through turns, reducing hot spots and improving tire life during aggressive use.

Internal construction of the Pilot Sport 4S features twin steel belts reinforced by a spirally wound hybrid reinforcement. This hybrid Aramid and nylon belt offers a lightweight, high-strength reinforcement above the steel belts to enhance high-speed handling, wear and durability. Specifically tuning the application of the cord filament provides Michelin engineers the ability to balance tension and strength, and a single-ply, polyester cord casing balances trade-offs between ride quality and responsive handling.

Limited sizes of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are available with Michelin Acoustic Technology, which involves the manufacturer adhering a layer of sound-absorbing foam to the inner liner of the tire to reduce cabin noise in the vehicle. These sizes are identified on the Specs page and in the search results.

Select original equipment sizes of the Pilot Sport 4S utilize the Michelin Connected Tire System in conjunction with Michelin Acoustic Technology and can be identified by the specific Acoustic and Bluetooth logos on the tire's sidewall. These tires contain the sound-absorbing foam as well as a sensor designed to communicate specific data about the tire to the vehicle's built-in systems.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

*Specific sizes utilizing Michelin Total Performance eco-focused manufacturing methods are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

...Great wet traction and way better than the OEM tires which were replaced...

Tire was great purchase. Would have to say one of the best that I have driven on. Great wet traction and way better than the OEM tires which were replaced. Under some conditions, hot days did feel them not being 100% traction after the heated up. Overall 5 stars. Next one will be Cup2 but worry about wet traction when the roads get some H2O on them.

I've driven performance cars mounted upon performance tires for my entire adult life.
These tires are at a whole new level.

...Rain or shine at highway speeds has been very comfortable...

Overall a great tire for the wheel setup I went with.
Car is lowered and cambered for clearance purposes.
Rain or shine at highway speeds has been very comfortable.

No complaints other than noise but that is expected with the wheel setup I currently have.

...First thing I noticed was the comfort in the ride.

I own a 2019 Mustang GT Premium California Special and have only experience with Perelli P Zeros and Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06.
Tire Rack rep was helpful in ordering my tires.
I reviewed all the comments online comparing Perilli, Continental and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. It’s hard to decide when all the review were so close to each other. The one thing is that the Michelin’s were more expensive. I decided to go with the Michelin’s hoping I had made the right choice. They were mailed to America’s Tire in my town within 2 days and installed the same day they arrived. Having black factory rims I wanted black balancing weights instead of the silver ones. Last time I didn’t tell them, so I had to go around with a black marker and blacken them out.
My car has factory suspension with 49,600 miles. I took it for my first drive and couldn’t believe the difference from the Perelli’s I replaced. First thing I noticed was the comfort in the ride. Next thing I noticed was how they really stuck to the road. So far to me it made a big difference in the way the car drove. Since they are new, I can’t say if they will last the 30K warranty, but just on my initial experience if you can’t decide go with the Michelin’s.

Purchasing the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S was a noticeable upgrade from the original Potenzas that had been on my car, with the Michelins providing a quieter, smoother ride. So far, have only driven in dry conditions but the handling is superb and predictable.

About the transaction - Despite a small glitch from VISA delaying the transaction, the staff at TireRack were understanding, super helpful and promptly communicated to me there was a problem. With a quick call to the credit card company, the problem was rectified and my tires were shipped out the same day. TireRack offers the best choice in tires, the staff are knowledgeable and outstanding, the prices are reasonable and the shipping is fast. This was one of many purchases from TireRack my husband or I have made over the years and we will continue to do so in the future. Can't say enough great things about this company and the people who work there.
