The Pilot Sport 4S is Michelin's Max Performance Summer tire developed in cooperation with some of the most demanding vehicle manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche to utilize key technologies engineered during competition in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was designed for serious drivers looking to maximize the performance potential of their sports cars, performance sedans and powerful luxury vehicles. The Pilot Sport 4S excels in warm dry and wet conditions, so like all Max Performance Summer tires, is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Premium Touch LogoSelect sizes of the Pilot Sport 4S are available with Michelin's Premium Touch sidewall treatment. This velvet-effect checkered sidewall is created using cutting-edge laser technology and is designed to enhance the vehicle's visual presence. These sizes are identified on the "Specs" page and in the search results.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4SThe asymmetric tread pattern of the Pilot Sport 4S features side-by-side, 24 Hours of Le Mans-derived compounds. The low-void outer shoulder utilizes a new dry-focused hybrid tread rubber for improved dry handling and braking over the previous generation tire, while the center ribs and inboard shoulder feature a silica-infused wet compound designed to increase wet braking performance. The computer-modeled Variable Contact Patch 3.0 optimizes pressure distribution across the contact patch through turns, reducing hot spots and improving tire life during aggressive use.

Internal construction of the Pilot Sport 4S features twin steel belts reinforced by a spirally wound hybrid reinforcement. This hybrid Aramid and nylon belt offers a lightweight, high-strength reinforcement above the steel belts to enhance high-speed handling, wear and durability. Specifically tuning the application of the cord filament provides Michelin engineers the ability to balance tension and strength, and a single-ply, polyester cord casing balances trade-offs between ride quality and responsive handling.

Limited sizes of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are available with Michelin Acoustic Technology, which involves the manufacturer adhering a layer of sound-absorbing foam to the inner liner of the tire to reduce cabin noise in the vehicle. These sizes are identified on the Specs page and in the search results.

Select original equipment sizes of the Pilot Sport 4S utilize the Michelin Connected Tire System in conjunction with Michelin Acoustic Technology and can be identified by the specific Acoustic and Bluetooth logos on the tire's sidewall. These tires contain the sound-absorbing foam as well as a sensor designed to communicate specific data about the tire to the vehicle's built-in systems.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

*Specific sizes utilizing Michelin Total Performance eco-focused manufacturing methods are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Toyo A36 Reviews

Drivers find the Toyo A36 delivers a comfortable ride with generally quiet operation, earning consistent praise in this category. Treadwear receives mixed feedback, with some reporting premature wear despite the tire's all-season design. Winter traction shows limitations in severe conditions, particularly on ice, though lighter snow performance satisfies some users. Wet traction splits opinions-many note adequate grip, but hydroplaning concerns surface in heavy rain. Dry traction stands out as a strength, with strong scores for confident handling and responsive steering. While suitable for everyday crossover/SUV use, its all-season capabilities show gaps in extreme wet or icy scenarios, aligning with mid-tier expectations for touring tires.

These are original equipment on our 2019 CX-5. They have always been adequate here in Southern California in dry conditions. We have made a few long-distance trips on them and always felt content with noise and comfort. Only a few panic stops in dry conditions. I do not recall and testing of their cornering limits... this is my wife's car. These tires are now 8 years old and soldiered on in a 600 mile road trip with no issues. But at 8 years, it's time to retire them (😆). As with every other OE tire I've had, their treadwear is disappointing - they are on the border of caution level for wear at 20,000 miles. But that is not important to us, as we obviously don't drive the car long distances.

...Dry and wet traction was above average in my experience, as well as handling...

These are decent tires. I have not had the same luck as other reviewers I guess. 73,000 miles on these and just now looking to replace them. They aren't down to the wear bar, but they are getting pretty noisy. Dry and wet traction was above average in my experience, as well as handling. I live in Florida and have a 120 mile round-trip commute to work 5 days a week, part of that on dirt roads. Never once felt like I didn't have control of my car due to hydroplaning or tires slipping when accelerating from a stop. And the rain can be relentless and heavy at times. They started getting noisy at about 50,000 miles, so I figured it's time for new ones, even though I could get 10,000 miles more out of them.
Overall decent OEM tires, but I think I'll go for Continental when replacing.

...They're okay when new, relatively comfortable and have good dry traction...

These tires are OEM on most new Mazda CX-5. They're okay when new, relatively comfortable and have good dry traction. They wear fast due to their soft compound, and after 15,000 miles caution is warranted on wet roads. Would not recommend for winter driving - I use a separate set of winter tires. Tires wore evenly, but were shot at 22,000 miles. (3) tires were at 4/32" and (1) at 3/32" tread depth with minimal fine siping remaining. Some reviewers may get more miles, but I attribute hot summers and rolling terrain ages these quick. The A36's are not listed on the Toyo official website and I believe they're designed specifically for OEM applications - I would not purchase them. Opted to replace with Pirelli Scorpion AS3's.

...They are noticeably quiet to my ears. Steering response is good and the ride is pretty good as well...

These were the OEM tires that came with our Mazda CX-5. We use Michelin X-Ice winter tires so I've only used these between May and December. These tires have actually performed quite well. They are noticeably quiet to my ears. Steering response is good and the ride is pretty good as well. These have been much nicer than I expected before having driven any Tokyo tires.

These tires are absolute garbage. Without a doubt, they're the worst tires I've ever had on a vehicle.

They're just plain dangerous in wet conditions and will hydroplane or slip in the slightest bit of standing water. They're also super noisy while cornering and easily break traction (and squeal) when accelerating. I knew I needed new tires within the first 500 miles of driving on them. Toyo should be embarrassed to put their name on these tires.

The only thing they have going for them is they're relatively quiet and cheap.

Only buy these tires if you're purposely looking to endanger your life and others.
